1986 Lotus Turbo Espirit Hci ***no Reserve*** on 2040-cars
Brook Park, Ohio, United States
This Glacier
Blue 1986 Lotus Turbo Espirit HCI (High Compression Injection) is a beautiful
example of the iconic British exotic car.
This classic Lotus features a dark blue leather interior and is in a
very good condition. In 1986,
only 454 Turbo Espirits were produced, (According to research) making this a
truly rare car. If you appreciate the stunning and dramatic lines that Guigiaro
penned, then this is the car for you. In addition, this car has only been driven approximately
50,000 miles. Car also features a built in Cobra radar
detector (front and back) in case you feel the need for speed. VIN is
SCCFC20A5GHF60857. This fine car has been maintained by RS Motorsports of
Closter, NJ who is considered by many to be the premier Lotus mechanic in the
North East. Any interested party is welcome to contact him to discuss the car. This Turbo Espirit HCI is reliable and fast. It has been known to cruise at 120MPH comfortably. Needs -
The
car is equipped with air conditioning but it needs a charge. -
Very
minor cosmetic wear on the exterior, (not unusual for a car that has been
driven) the paint has some blemishes. -
The
interior is good and original but the back of the driver’s side is a little
worn. -
(Please note)>>> The Carfax shows inconsistency of
mileage because the speedometer stopped working and the odometer shows 29,000
miles right now but there are actually around 50,000 miles on it. Current
Carfax report is available upon request. According to
the automotive press, “The Espirit is a wonderful example of form
and function. The Lotus Espirit was an amazing vehicle. Its aerodynamic design,
lightweight material, advanced technology and potent engine made the vehicle a
success and attributed to its nearly thirty years of production.” In March
1986, at the Geneva Motor Show, the Turbo HCPI (HC = High Compression, with
petrol injection) was unveiled. The compression ratio had been increased to
8.0:1, maximum boost pressure was up, and not only was this the first Lotus to
use injection – the familiar Bosch K – jetronic layout – but it also had a
catalytic convertor in the exhaust system. The packaging engineers had done
their best to make the cockpit more roomy, the seats had been widened and
lowered while the footwell area had been enlarged. Not only was the engine more
powerful and more torquey than before but the chassis had been improved with
wider section tires (195/60s at the front, 235/60s at the rear). While there
was a new front spoiler and a larger radiator intake. To drill home the
message, this car also had HCPI decals. The ‘Rest of the World’ derivative of
this car, titled Espirit Turbo HC, was put on sale in October 1986. It shared
the same high compression head of HCPI, but retained its Dellorto carburetors
and was not fitted with a catalyst. Like changes made to the normally –
aspirated Espirit at the same time, the latest HC also had an uprated cooling
system and adjustable rack seats. It was a more expensive car than before -
?24,980, which was an increase of ?1,540 on the original type. Compared with
the earlier turbo there had been a 10% torque increase, which made an immediate
and obvious difference to the performance. When Autocar tested the car in 1987,
it was summarized as “in many areas …. A very practical supercar
…. A remarkably satisfying device with which to cover long distances quickly. But
with many less expensive sports cars offering similar performance, the Lotus
begins to look a little less attractive than it did three years ago. The same
cannot be said for its styling, however, which remains truly exotic.” Any

Lotus hits the track with new Elise S Cup R
Mon, 11 Nov 2013If you want to take a Lotus to the track but the Exige V6 Cup is a bit too much to handle, the boys from Hethel have a new offering that may be of interest.
The new Elise S Cup R features all the track-tuned bells and whistles of its six-cylinder brethren, including a competition-spec aero kit, adjustable suspension, Yokohama racing slicks on 17-inch forged alloys, tow hooks, remapped ECU, cross-drilled and ventilated disc brakes and an interior with a HANS-compatible bucket seat, six-point racing harness and quick-release steering wheel. But instead of a heavier and more powerful V6, the Elise S Cup R "adds lightness" with the same 1.8-liter supercharged inline-four with 217 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque as the road-going Elise S. Yet with all that track-tuned gear, it's a good four seconds per three-mile lap faster than the showroom stock version in the automaker's testing.
Interested parties can pick one up in the UK for £39,125 (before taxes, equivalent to about $63k) and either lap it to their hearts' content at private track days or enter it in one of the dozen Lotus Cup series operating around the world. Lotus only released this one photo (click above to enlarge), but you can check out the full specs in the press release below.
Lotus has a new sports car in the pipeline
Fri, Mar 15 2019Lotus is bringing a new, yet-unnamed model to the market next year, as Autocar reports. The new sports car is likely to be based on a significantly updated Evora platform, and it will function as a link between the current lineup and a new portfolio, which can incorporate even sport utility vehicles and electrified products as well as a completely new sports car platform. To appeal to less-than-hardcore Lotus buyers, the new model will offer improved practicality and livability, with better ergonomics and comfort than current Lotus models. It will be a challenge to achieve this without compromising on weight; the earlier attempted Lotus re-invention in the early 2010s was based on five simultaneously unveiled concept cars that weren't as lightweight as desired, nor based on a solid foundation. Ultimately, the concepts led nowhere, and the then-CEO was terminated. When the time comes to update the Elise, Exige and Evora in the next decade, they will be based on a new architecture under development that will meet U.S. regulations from the get-go. The recently appointed CEO, Phil Popham, told Autocar: "The focus for now is on replacing the products we've got today — the sports cars," said Popham. "In a long time, Lotus has not had sight of what is required. You need a longterm plan, a product plan and a business plan locked down with investment. We have that plan locked in." Lotus' tie-in with new owner Geely can result in funding in the billions, with Geely assisting with engineering and manufacturing. Crucial Lotus input such as design and product planning will continue in Hethel, UK, but with Geely helping out elsewhere, in Coventry, Sweden, Germany and China. Currently, Lotus continues to use Toyota engine technology, but there is a possibility that future Lotus models will use Geely-related powertrain parts.
New Forza Horizon 2 pack features Chevy Monte Carlo SS, Audi RS6 Avant [w/video]
Tue, Dec 2 2014The latest car pack for Forza Horizon 2 is hitting Xbox Live today, giving Xbox One owners a shot at six new vehicles that date back to 1970. Leading the charge in the hearts and minds of the Autoblog staff is, of course, the 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, one of the most 80s-tastic performance coupes of its time. Chevy's 80s-era NASCAR representative is joined by another General Motors performance two-door, in the form of the 1970 Buick GSX. Complete with a 455-cubic-inch V8, the GSX could best be thought of as the grandpappy to the iconic GNX of the late 1980s. Crossing the pond, we have a trio of offerings from the United Kingdom, with the 2002 Lotus Esprit V8, the redesigned, aluminum-intensive 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged and finally, the 2015 McLaren 650S. The mid-engined offerings should be a riot on the winding roads of Forza Horizon 2's European locales, while the Range Rover should make cross-country efforts an absolute breeze. Finally, virtual wagon lovers will be able to enjoy the 2015 Audi RS6 Avant and its combination of Quattro all-wheel drive and a twin-turbocharged V8. As per usual, this latest car pack will be available to gamers for $5 while season pass owners will score the sextet of vehicles for free. Scroll down for a video of the new offerings in action, as well as the official press release from Turn 10 Studios.
