Rebuilt title info:
Reported as total loss 11/02/10. I was told by the previous owner that a dealer bought the car from that this was due to an insurance fraud issue, I found pics of the car at auction no issues with the car I could see. Dealer in Alabama bought the car for himself, 1/27/11 he has car inspected and rebuilt title issued (31,635 miles). He ends up getting another sports car
from auction, and no longer wanted to keep the lotus, previous owner buys the car from him 4/4/11 (32,431 miles). The car was driven as a daily driver for 3 years, and it now has 52,700 miles. No issues other than AC which as described above has been completely fixed.

Condition:
The car is in great condition, I have never tracked, it’s a daily driver, but very little highway miles, my office is 8 miles from my home, 3 stops lights. Very minimal stone chips etc. Fixed rear bumper, someone tapped the back in Oct 2012, fixed by Trade Secret in Plano TX, now looks brand new.  Always covered parking at work and home. Wash the car by hand has a very wet glossy look after multiple layers of using the wax. Will need new brake pads in the next 6 months which are $20 at Autozone.  It will probably need the hard top roof liner replaced as its starting to sag a little.  I've tried to be as detailed as possible but please ask any question as I was to be as upfront as possible.  Amazing car in great condition and needs nothing.  Transmission and clutch operate perfectly.

I will ship or release the car to you after funds clear in my bank account.  Cash, wire, or cashier's check.  All shipping arrangements must be made by the buyer.

Lotus Elise Sprint adds lightness to lightness

Fri, Mar 17 2017

Lotus announced the introduction of a new Elise trim level that exemplifies founder Colin Chapman's famous phrase of "simplify and add lightness." The new Elise Sprint combines the weight savings of the current standard Elise, along with a number of Sprint-exclusive parts for what Lotus claims is the model's most significant weight loss yet of about 90 pounds over the old model, bringing the car's dry weight (not curb weight) to 1,759 pounds. The exclusive Sprint parts account for about 57 pounds of that loss. They include a lithium-ion battery, forged wheels, polycarbonate rear window, and carbon fiber for the seats, roll bar cover, engine cover, and access panel. Interestingly, the biggest savings come from the lithium-ion battery, which is roughly 20 pounds lighter than the normal battery. Lotus also includes the optional two-piece brake rotors and carbon fiber door sills to reach the 90 pound total. This all translates to slightly quicker 0-60 mph times for Elise Sprint models over their Sport counterparts. Both the 1.6-liter 134-horsepower Sprint and 1.8-liter 217-horsepower Sprint 220 models complete the run to 60 mph a tenth of a second quicker than the equivalent Sport versions, with times of 5.9 and 4.1 seconds respectively. The weight loss also results in a price gain. For either Sprint model, you'll end up paying an extra GBP5,000, which is a bit over $6,100 at current exchange rates. Of course, the Elise isn't available in the US anyway, so it's a moot point. Related Video:

The time Elon Musk paid $1 million for James Bond submarine car that cost a couple $100

Tue, Dec 3 2019

Tesla CEO Elon Musk landed himself in court after insulting a diver who criticized his plan to rescue a Thai soccer trapped in a cave using a purpose-built mini submarine. Which reminded us that Musk's interest in submarines started years ago. The story begins in 1989, when a couple from Long Island put every barn-find hunter to shame by paying $100 for a locked storage unit, and cracking it open to find a 1976 Lotus Esprit buried under a pile of blankets. That's a cool find, the S1 Esprit is sought-after among enthusiasts, but CNBC reported they quickly learned their car was modified to star in the 1977 James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me." Ignoring Colin Chapman's "light is right" motto, the producers alchemized the Lotus into a fully functional submarine by welding in the wheel arches and the underbody, and adding winglets for more stability. Four propellers powered by a battery pack housed in the cabin moved the Esprit under water, and the coupe gained front-mounted missile launchers. The modifications reportedly cost $100,000. The couple had never seen a James Bond movie; they likely assumed it was a mad scientist's kit car, or a science fair project gone wrong. The $100 purchase price represents about $207 in 2019 dollars, so the unsuspecting buyers could have easily sold it as a parts car, made a small amount of money on it, and ended up with a free storage unit. However, they became aware of the Esprit's significance in Hollywood history when truckers identified it over CB radio while they were hauling it home. lotus-esprit-submarine-in-action-1 View 3 Photos They weren't collectors, and storing a submarine is terribly impractical, so they commissioned a cosmetic restoration and asked auction house RM Sotheby's to sell it in 2013. An enigmatic buyer paid $997,000 for the non-running movie prop. Musk later revealed himself as its new owner. "I was disappointed to learn that it can't actually transform. What I'm going to do is upgrade it with a Tesla electric powertrain, and try to make it transform for real," he announced. Even billionaire-owned project cars sit for longer than planned, and there's little evidence the Esprit is in swimming condition, let alone capable of morphing into a submarine at the simple push of a button. If it could, we're certain Musk would have hyped it up on Twitter. But while stalled projects normally draw the ire of loved ones as they take up garage space, Musk's turned into a well of inspiration.
