If CarFax is what you use to buy a car There is no reason to read further.
2005 Elise for sale with a checkered distant past. This was a FLorida Lemon buy back in 2005. I bought the car in 2007 from the second private owner. At that time there was no listing on Car Fax about it being a FLorida Lemon law buy back. That information was added long after I bought it. It has two accidents listed on CarFax. It was stolen for a day and driven into a small tree requiring repair of the front clam. The second owner was hit from behind at a stop light and pushed into the car in front causing both front and rear clamshells to be replaced. That owner sent me pictures of the damage before I bought the car and it was fiberglass damage only. After I bought it I had it examined by a Lotus dealer and there was NO subframe damage OR repair evident. Everything was in alignment and within specifications. I have owned and driven this car since 2007 and have driven it many trouble free miles. I have installed a Sector 111 Brake Noir kit with braided lines about 1000 miles ago.. I have tracked this car 3 times since I have owned it, using slicks mounted on a spare set of wheels. I'm too old to race any more buy I enjoy going on a track once in a while. It is not a garage queen and has many rock chips around in side scoops and parking lot entry damage under the nose. ( It lacks the Lamborghini feature of suspension raising to enter parking lots.). I spare no expense on the mechanical upkeep of my cars and this one is no excpetion. It has had its fluids changed regularly including Bake fluid ( Motul Racing fluid), Oil ( Castrol Syntec) , Coolant ( Dexcool) and Castrol Gearbox lube change at 30K miles. Tires are Goodyear GS-D3's with at least a year left on them. The heater motor control upgrade was done as was the factory recall for the Oil cooler line and ECU reflash. If the price goes high enough I will include a hardtop with a British flag decal covering it at no additional cost. I will decide if it sells at a price adequate to include the top, I have owned this car for the vast majority of it's existence and have enjoyed it like no other car I have owned including the Caterham it replaced. I WILL NOT accept bids form outside the US.... And yes NIGERIA and the RUSSIAN FEDERATION are outside the US. There is NO warranty, expressed or implied. |

2020 Lotus Elise Classic Heritage Editions celebrate past race car liveries
Wed, May 6 2020For 2020, the Lotus Elise is getting a very limited edition. The Elise Classic Heritage Edition is a version that can be had in one of four liveries that reference past Lotus race cars. While the paint schemes are fitting tributes, the redundancy of having "Classic" and "Heritage" in the same name seem antithetical to Colin Chapman's philosophy of "simplify and add lightness." Name aside, the color schemes look good. Naturally, one of them is the famous black and gold of the John Player Special Lotus race cars. Others are less familiar, but still significant. Two of them highlight cars driven by famous racers. The blue, red and silver combo references the 1980 Lotus Type 81 driven by Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell and Elio de Angelis. The red, white and gold version is for the 1968 Type 49B driven by Graham Hill. As for the blue and white car, it celebrates the first Lotus F1 car to win pole position and the race, the 1960 Type 18. The flashy paint is matched with equally flashy interiors. The upper door panels and other trim pieces are painted in coordinated colors, and the seat centers are finished in matching fabric. The one exception is the blue and white model that gets red seats. While the car is based on the 217-horsepower Elise 220, it gets features that are normally extra-cost on that car, including air conditioning, cruise control, a radio, carpeting and floor mats, two-piece brake rotors and forged wheels. Available as options are a hardtop, lithium-ion battery and titanium exhaust. All of these extra features, plus the colors and exclusivity help make the extra GBP6,350-pound upcharge worthwhile, which makes the car cost GBP46,250, or just over $57,000 at current exchange rates. Speaking of exclusivity, only 100 of these cars will be sold internationally. Lotus notes that the split between the different colors will be dependent on demand, so certain liveries could be rarer than others. Don't expect any of them to be offered in the U.S., though, since the Elise isn't available here at all. Related Video: Â Â
Lotus F1 apologizes for tweeting support for LGBT Olympians
Mon, 10 Feb 2014The Lotus Formula One Team is apologizing after its official Twitter account posted this image of two men kissing in connection to the opening of the Winter Olympics on Friday, February 7. It claims that the original tweet was "unauthorized."
The tweet, which Lotus deleted later that day, can be viewed to the right and was promptly replaced an apology that said, "We would like to sincerely apologise for an unauthorized message posted on our Twitter account today & will ensure this cannot happen again." Responses to the kerfuffle on its Twitter page have mostly focused on confusion as to what the original tweet was and why it was removed.
While the Sochi Olympics have been controversial among LBGT groups because of Russia's laws banning so-called "gay propaganda," the country has a growing importance in F1. In fact, the first Russian Grand Prix is scheduled to run later this season on a circuit around the Sochi Olympic Park. Genii Capital, the team's owner, has business interests in Russia, and according to the BBC, the Lotus F1 team is working on a deal to with Russian mobile phone company Yotaphone to sell it 10 percent of the team.
Lotus pulled 55 pounds out of the Exige and added power to create this Sport 380
Wed, Nov 23 2016The hard-core Lotus just got harder. Or maybe corier? Anyway, the Lotus Exige Sport 380 is the most extreme iteration of the Elise and Exige yet. It hits 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, has even more downforce than the Sport 350, and weighs a full 55 pounds less than that car if you opt for the lightweight exhaust. With a curb weight of 2,425 pounds, that weight reduction means something. Mass was pulled out of a variety of places on the car, including the front splitter, front "hood" insert, wing, and diffuser surround, all of which are rendered in carbon fiber and save a cumulative six pounds. Swapping the rear glass to polycarbonate reduces weight by two pounds, a lithium-ion battery in place of the standard one removes 23, the carbon racing shell seats cut 13, and lighter wheels and brake discs lower the total by 22. Lotus even messed with the lights on the back, going from four big ones to two and making do with smaller fog and reverse lights, saving just over half a pound. That optional titanium exhaust saves an additional 22 pounds. And it's not like the Sport 350 was a porker. As the name suggests, there's more power coming from the supercharged and heavily massaged 3.5-liter Toyota V6. The Sport 380 makes 375 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque, up from 345 and 295 in the Sport 350. The 380 accelerates to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds (down from 3.7) regardless of which transmission you choose, but we highly recommend the six-speed manual over the auto, if only for its fantastic and beautiful exposed linkage. Tweaks to the aero package keep drag in check while increasing downforce by about 60 percent over the Sport 350, for a total of 309 pounds at top speed. Which, if you're curious, is 178 mph for the manual, 170 for the auto. So another vote for the three-pedal version. We'll have to remain curious, though, because sadly the current Exige is still not available in the US in any form, nor will it be. But Lotus is working on a new one that should arrive in a couple years to join the rejuvenated Evora lineup – the fantastic Evora 400 and upcoming, fantasticker Evora Sport 410.
