And while it is omnipresent in most corners of the globe, few things spoke to that globalization more than Ford's purchase of Jaguar and Land Rover near the end of the last century. And with that purchase came shared platform opportunities, some of which didn't work (Jaguar's X-Type is the most notable, whose platform was shared with the Ford Mondeo), and some that did. We'll focus on one that did: Jaguar's S-Type, whose engineering was common to the Lincoln LS. Sales didn't set the world on fire for either model, but there is something ageless about both; the Jag embraced a neo-classic theme, while Lincoln's LS is almost timeless within its 3-box, slab-sided architecture. This for-sale example, located in Melbourne, Fla., looks to be in nice condition. If the mileage is accurate and the Carfax reasonably clean, it should provide miles and years of motoring pleasure, even if only driving to your rheumatologist. The LS borders on being a quiet collectible, with less obvious pleasure in the viewing, more obvious delight in the driving; that's especially true with this model's V8. Ford recalls 83k Taurus and crossover models for halfshaft issue

Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall for some 83,250 vehicles in the US, for an issue with halfshafts. More specifically a "halfshaft retention circlip" might not have been properly installed on affected vehicles, with the result being halfshafts that may move improperly or disengage completely from the linkshaft while driving. The NHTSA release also notes that the issue may occur "without prior warning" which obviously factors in to the timeliness of getting this checked.
Should the halfshaft disengage, a few troubling things could happen. If it occurs while driving, power from the engine will no longer be transmitted to the wheels. And, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied after disengagement of the circlip, vehicles may roll away even if they're transmissions have been placed in "Park."
Affected vehicles are as follows: Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers from model years 2012 to 2014; Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS sedans from model years 2013 to 2014; Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles from model years 2013 to 2014.

Lincoln recycling tree fibers into new MKX armrest

Want to hug a tree, or at least a really small part of one. Then set your arm down on one of those armrests in the 2014 Lincoln MKX crossover. The US automaker is working with Weyerhaeuser and Johnson Controls on a tree-based, cellulose-reinforced polypropylene material used in the component that connects the armrest to the floor console, Wards Auto says. With properties similar to plastic, the tree-based material replaces fiberglass and is about six percent lighter. No big deal for now, but if the material starts getting used for things like battery trays and interior storage covers, that loss in weight may eventually start adding up enough to boost fuel economy a bit, providing a green double bonus. Lincoln parent Ford, which isn't saying how much more (or less?) it costs to use the new material, established its Biomaterials and Plastics Research team in 2001. In 2007, the company began using soy-based foam in car seats used for models such as the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Mustang and has since broadened biomaterials use to components like floormats and cupholder inserts. Ford also used recycled plastic bottles from the 2012 North America International Auto Show for seats in the Focus Electric.
