Up for sale is a real nice Signature Series '88 Town car. For an upstate NY car this baby is super solid. It was owned by the proverbial "little old lady" who finally got a newer car a couple of years ago and I puchased the Lincoln from her. This car was driven sparingly in the NY winters,so there is some rust underneath but no structural rot anywhere. The body has NO  rust holes, only a few quarter -sized surface rust spots which I have treated and primed (as you can see in the photos). Ready for the next owner to color match or two tone the center part of the car if you choose. Actual miles are only 74,005! The Lincoln drives and runs great and I get 24 mpg+  highway if driven gently-not bad for a big boat! The interior is immaculate blue velour. Blue vinyl top is perfect. The power seats, mirrors and locks work fine,as do both front windows including the trademark power vent windows. The rear windows work when the want to-but who needs'em-you've got ice cold A/C for the summer! Years ago the heater core was bypassed due to a small leak(common for these cars) so your winter driving is ruled out,but why drive this fine old car in the winter anyway? It's a fine cruiser for the rest of the year. Brake pads, rotors, rear drums and shoes, tires, muffler& tailpipe all recently replaced. No problem with NYSI. This car glides down the highway! I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere in the country right now. Brand new Sony CD player works great with the factory Premium Sound system. You can call me at work 585-427-8400 x.7963 between 8-5:30 EST or at home 585-229-2830 after 6:30,or via e-mail. You won't be disappointed. Buy it now price is $1995. E-mail me if you want the actual reserve price. Note:As the car is for sale locally,I reserve the right to end the auction early for any reason. Deposit of $500 to my payPal account needed within 24 hours of auction's end. If you want to fly in to the Rochester airport and drive the car home,I can pick you up and assist with getting a temorary tag, etc.
Thanks for looking...

The 1965 Ford Mustang could have looked a lot different

Fri, May 8 2020

The 1965 Ford Mustang is unquestionably an automotive design icon, and nearly every generation of Mustang has some connection to that original car. Because it's such a universally-known vehicle, we were amazed to see all the different designs that were being considered. Head of Ford's archives Ted Ryan recently shared photos of design proposals for the original Mustang on Twitter that he and Jamie Myler found, and we reached out to them to find out more. As Ryan initially noted, the photos were taken on August 19, 1962, and they are proposals for the Ford Mustang. Apparently Ford had committed to doing a Falcon-based youth-oriented car at this point, and it did have plans to launch the car in 1964 for the 1965 model year. But after having little success with early design proposals, the company asked all of its design studios — the Advanced Studio, Lincoln-Mercury Studio and Ford Studio — to submit proposals. With only about two years before the planned launch, Ford was understandably short on time, and it's believed that the studios only had a month to create and present these designs. Lincoln-Mercury design proposal View 8 Photos The majority of the designs, a total of five, came from the Advanced Studio, and part of this was because they already had a couple of concept designs in reserve it could present. Two other models representing three design possibilities came from Lincoln-Mercury, and just one model with two options came from Ford. The Advanced Studio proposals are shown in the gallery at the very top of this article, and the Lincoln-Mercury and Ford proposals are in the gallery directly above this paragraph. The Advanced Studio's most radical design is the one that was clearly related to the Mustang I concept that would be shown later that year with huge wraparound rear glass, turbine-inspired bumpers and enormous side scoops. The other proposals from the studio were more conservative, featuring simple lines, grilles reminiscent of the Falcon, and one even borrowing the jet-thruster-style taillights made famous on the Thunderbird. Lincoln-Mercury had some impressively bold designs, particularly its fastback that had buttresses to extend the shape all the way to the tail. This car had two different side trim possibilities. The other Lincoln-Mercury design was toned down a bit, but had two interesting possibilities for side detailing, as well as some crisp, low-profile tail fins.

Lincoln owners in San Diego, your chauffeur awaits

Fri, May 12 2017

In an effort to make up lost market share, Lincoln is trying desperately to differentiate itself from other luxury automakers. The automaker is offering and expanding a number of services aimed at setting itself apart not only from Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Audi, but also the Fords that so often share showroom space. One such offering, the Lincoln Chauffeur, is expanding beyond its initial rollout in Miami, Florida, across the country to San Diego, California. The concept is simple. For $30/hour, a chauffeur will drive you around in your own vehicle, stopping at the store, the gas station, or even at school to pick up the kids. The chauffeur can do these things with or without you present, meaning the driver can drop you off at the airport and return the car home, allowing others to use the car rather than leaving it parked at the airport. The service is available to old and new Lincoln owners, though the former get eight free hours to try the service. San Diego was part of a planned expansion. If things continue to go well, look for further rollouts in cities across the country. Related Video: News Source: Lincoln via Automotive News Lincoln Ownership

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
