1993 Lincoln Mark Viii Base Sedan 2-door 4.6l on 2040-cars
Raleigh, North Carolina, United States
For Sale:
1993 Lincoln Mark VIII 2dr Coupe. Aluminum 4.6L DOHC 32 valve 4 cam aluminum Cobra Motor, 4R70W Heavy Duty 4 speed automatic trans, aluminum drive shaft, 4 wheel disc brakes, posi-traction, independent front and rear suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, and dual exhaust. Equipment includes JBL stereo system with 8 speakers, power antennae, p/seats, p/windows, p/mirrors, auto dim rearview, p/trunk release, p/fuel door, p/moon roof, climate control, onboard computer, leather interior, bucket seats with console and floor shift and more. I purchased this car from the estate of a deceased gentleman. It was parked for 2 years. I performed the following to get it road ready: Flushed the gas tank, replaced the fuel pump, changed/flushed all fluids and filters, including 12 quarts and filter for trans, replaced every hose, belt, sensor, EGR valve, plugs and wires, intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, battery, starter, alternator, wiper motor, climate control head, rearview mirror assembly, power antennae motor. I then replaced the driver's power seat motor, added a nice Kenwood CD player, and Safelight put in a brand new windshield. With the car running perfectly, and the trans shifting like brand new, I completely removed the troublesome air-suspension, and replaced it with a Strut Masters conversion kit. All control arms, shocks, springs, ball joints, tie rods ends and sway bar links and steering components are new. I then spent $2000.00 on the wheels and tires you see pictured. I have over $9000.00 invested in this car. The motor and trans are great. No noise, no smoke, no leaks of any kind, great oil pressure, runs cool. Trans shifts like is brand new, when I pulled the valve covers to change the gaskets, the heads were unusually clean; the factory dual exhaust is tight and quiet. The odometer shows 155K. The car is very responsive, and I don't recommend it for a brand new driver. The blue leather interior is nice, no rips or excessive wear, no cracks on the dash. All the lights work. Lifelong North Carolina car, absolutely rust free. Everything other than what is listed below, works. A/C probably needs a charge, Cruise control needs fuse or relay, bad ground on fuel gauge. Needs to be driven. It has been sitting for a long time. All listed repairs and additions have taken place within the last 100 miles, but over a period of 2 years. It was regularly started, and I have put a few miles on it recently. It has some dings, scratches and the clear coat is peeling off the roof. The ABS light is on, but the brakes are fine. (I was told this is common when converting the suspension). Airbag light also flashes once in a while. Nice car you can drive as-is while you finish restoring, or use the very desirable drive train for a swap project. I have done a lot of work on this car, and have described it to the best of my ability. Needs some minor TLC from someone who loves cars. Clear title in hand, vehicle is not registered, but if you can get a dealer or transporter plate, I would not hesitate to drive it away. Car is for sale locally, must sell, lost storage. $500.00 non refundable deposit due through pay pal within 72 hours of purchase, remainder upon delivery. |

McConaughey's bizarre new Continental ad is perfect parody material
Tue, Dec 20 2016So let's say you're running a car company and have a luxurious new flagship sedan and need to advertise it. What do you do? Did you answer with "film a commercial with a barely coherent Hollywood actor standing in a pond?" If so, perhaps you work for Lincoln, which brought back Matthew McConaughey to do another bizarre car ad. It starts with McConaughey and a Continental standing on a body of water. He starts talking about staring (or not staring) at the Conti, and then about sitting in the back seat (or not). The ad then cuts to McConaughey in the back who replies to the McConaughey in the front seat. Presumably, there are two McConaugheys at this point, and the front seat one just laughs in a slightly unsettling manner. He then makes a clicking noise, closes the center console and drives away. You can't make this stuff up. It's thoroughly strange, but we can't say we're entirely surprised. When Lincoln first launched some bizarre ads with McConaughey muttering sweet nothings about the MKC, the company got loads of attention. Admittedly a lot of that attention was to make fun of it, but you know the old saying that there's no such thing as bad press. Lincoln even brought him back for an encore in ads for the MKX and MKZ. In truth, we're also glad to see another bizarre Lincoln ad, mostly because we're hoping for another round of great parodies like the classic Jim Carrey spoof that aired on Saturday Night Live. Check out the ad above to see the strangeness. Related Video:
Ford to add Android Auto and CarPlay to 2016 SYNC 3 cars via update
Fri, May 19 2017Ford is updating a large number of 2016 model year cars equipped with SYNC 3 infotainment software, adding Android Auto and CarPlay to the vehicles with a free, over-the-air update via Wi-Fi, or using either USB or going through their dealer. The upgrade will be available for around 800,000 vehicles in total, giving a huge number of Ford car owners the chance to get big infotainment improvements without having to buy a newer model car. The OTA update option is also a big step for Ford – it's the company's first for software ever, and it's one of the major reasons that Ford recently hired around 400 new mobile smartphone engineers, the company tells me. For CarPlay, users will still also need to upgrade their vehicle's USB hub to make this work (which will also incur a dealer visit and a cost), but for those on Android, all that's required is a simple software installation. The USB install method is also faster, but the Wi-Fi update option is the start of the company's efforts to really increase its OTA update program, which will be used for security improvements as well as infotainment bumps. Even with a dealer visit and hardware upgrade for CarPlay, this sounds like a worthwhile thing for 2016 vehicle owners to do. CarPlay and Android Auto are huge upgrades vs. most in-car software, offering navigation and entertainment options that follow you from your phone to your car. Retroactively offering this kind of thing to car owners is a definite change in tone for carmakers, since they typically use these kinds of things as incentives to get people interested in vehicle model updates. But as data becomes increasingly important to automakers as a business, it makes sense to encourage greater in-car use of devices.Written by Darrell Etherington for TechCrunchRelated Video: Auto News Ford Lincoln Technology Infotainment android
Ford cuts production at 5 plants, has big backload of cars including Mustang
Wed, Sep 20 2017DETROIT — Ford said on Tuesday it plans to idle five North American vehicle assembly plants for a total of 10 weeks to reduce inventories of slow-selling models. The plants affected include three assembly plants in the United States and two in Mexico, the company said in a statement. The vehicle models include the Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ midsize sedans, the Ford Focus compact car, the Lincoln Continental and Ford Mustang, Ford Fiesta and the Ford Transit van. Ford said the Cuautitlan assembly plant that builds the Fiesta would be idled for three weeks. The Hermosillo, Mexico plant that builds the Fusion and MKZ and the Flat Rock, Michigan, factory that assembles Continentals and Mustangs will be idled for two weeks each. The Michigan Assembly plant that builds the Focus will be idled for one week, and the Kansas City assembly line that builds Transit vans will be down for two weeks. Ford did not give dates for the temporary shutdowns. The factories involved employ more than 15,000 people, according to Ford's website. The company did not say how many of those workers would face temporary layoffs. As of Sept. 1, Ford had 111 days' worth of unsold Mustangs, 87 days' supply of Fusions, and a 103 days' supply of Transit vans, according to Automotive News. Dealers had enough unsold Lincoln Continentals to last 162 days. Automakers aim for 65 to 70 days of inventory of most models. Ford and rival General Motors have wrestled most of this year to rein in high inventories of passenger cars as consumers have shifted to buying pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. Production cuts slice into revenue, but also could help the automakers avoid deeper price cuts on vehicles they can sell.
