For those not familiar with the Lincoln Mark V Diamond Jubilee series here’s a little background info gleaned from several sources:

CONDITION

Ever spent an afternoon driving a classy, vintage Lincoln? What fun!  Smooth is the word for sure.  Smooth powerful acceleration.  Smooth handling in the curves or on the highway.  Comfort, styling, and versatility all in one gorgeous ride.  For my money, these decked out Diamond Jubilee Series Coupes are the best value for the overall driving experience that Lincoln had to offer.  Look over my photos and I’m sure you’ll agree what a find this is.  In many ways “time capsule” is a good adjective to use when describing this car.  I know you’ll admire its overall provenance.  All the glass is fine.  Previous owner had the car professionally repainted in the same original Diamond Jubilee Blue color .  The landau heavy vinyl top has NO cracks or UV-induced “tiger claw” splits. Diamond Jubilee Series cars have a simulated diamond in the oval opera window on the rear sail panel and can also be identified by their blue grille bars, matching blue trim, blue turbine wheels, special badges,  a unique crystal-like insert hood ornament and the padded “spare tire” hump on the rear deck that matches the landau top.

Climb over, under and throughout - I know you’ll come up smiling!  You’re NOT going to find body rust in the typical areas where it appears on vehicles from other parts of the country.  Original southern car, picked it up in Dallas Texas and drove it to Minnesota, always garaged and never driven in winter for the 10 years I've owned it.  Beware of the car flippers that have obviously just spray painted the underside of the car with black spray paint, and done a very poor job at that.  Car had the original odometer replaced at around 68,000 miles with another one that had around 20,000 when I bought the car.  It currently says 22,000, so the actual mileage may be around 70,000.  Most eBay sellers would try to sell this as a car with 22,000.

Mechanically the car seems quite strong.  You just can’t beat the great 460 CID motors with factory Holly 4 barrel Carburetor (Professionally rebuilt by the famous Carburetor Shop in St Paul).  Avoid the 400 CID 2 barrel engines or anything originally from California from this era.  The C-6 automatic three-speed transmission shifts great and we all know how good these Ford/Lincoln rear differentials are!   The brakes feel just fine to me, too.  All four original Diamond Jubilee blue factory-optioned turbine-style alloy wheels are straight & true.  Each is wrapped with very nice touring radials and have at least 90% remaining tread.  Full size spare with matching Diamond Jubilee wheel and compact spare are also included, along with the jack, all come with the carpeted covers for the tires and the jack.  The steering coupler was replaced, which is important for this era, as it is a rubber connection that is subject to disintegration over time and braking suddenly, leaving the steering dangerously loose.  This is a difficult and expensive repair if you can even find the part.

My interior photos clearly show the great original  blue fabric upholstery front and back. There aren’t any wear spots in the usual places and these plush buckets (unique to the Diamond Jubilee  series) will keep you comfortable for hours!  The extra carpets are clean and un-faded (the original blue floor mats were in place and will be included).  The headliner is great, having been replaced, however there are small tears were each of the seat belts enter the ceiling that have been patched with matching fabric .  Though I’ve only found a few things, I always try to point out any observed negatives as well.  While the heater will keep you toasty warm, plan on having the AC system serviced to blow cold.  The compressor engages and it used to blow cold for a while but then would ice up.  Both the small passenger’s wind-wing window and the main glass go up and down just fine.  The power driver’s seat moves in all directions and angles except up/down.  The original Ford Quadrasonic AM-FM/8-track stereo is still in place and works well.  You’ll appreciate the high-tech miles-to-empty gauge, it works great. The Cartier clock works intermittently.  There are NO cracks in the padded real leather dash and the unique ebony-toned faux woodgrain inserts look great, except around the steering wheel, which is a typical wear area.

Often I’ll encourage bidders to fly in here to the Minneapolis International just a few miles from me.  I’m happy to meet you there at the airport and you can begin the drive home the same day!

SHIPPING THE CAR:

2015 Lincoln MKC priced from $33,995* [w/poll]

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

Looking to build on the momentum it struggled to establish with the MKZ, Lincoln recently unveiled the production version of its all-new MKC last month at the LA Auto Show. With a proven platform shared with the Ford Escape and striking design, the 2015 Lincoln MKC goes on sale next summer ready to take on the ever-expanding world of luxury compact crossovers. Breaking into this new segment, Lincoln has priced the MKC aggressively as one of the least-expensive offerings in its class, starting at $33,995 (*including destination charges).
At that price, the 2015 MKC costs a little bit more than a fully loaded 2014 Ford Escape Titanium and is just slightly less costly than the Acura RDX and Volvo XC60. More importantly, it's thousands less than Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes GLK-Class. The MKC will be offered in three trim levels for now - there is still no more information about Lincoln's new Black Label products - ranging from the base Premiere up to the range-topping Reserve.
The Premiere will come standard with features like active grille shutters, push-button start, remote start, dual-zone climate control and heated front seats, while the midgrade Select starts at $37,225 and adds upgraded 18-inch wheels, ambient lighting, daytime running lights and a steering wheel featuring Wollsdorf leather. The top-shelf Reserve trim level starts at $40,930 and brings even more luxury features including the panoramic roof, navigation, cooled front seats and wifi access.

Ford Mustang, F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator recalled

Wed, Apr 27 2016

The Basics: Ford will recall 201,900 examples of the 2011-2012 F-150, 2012 Expedition, 2012 Mustang, and 2012 Lincoln Navigator. The affected vehicles have the 6R80 transmission. Of the total, there are 84,000 of them in the United States and 17,900 in Canada. The Problem: The output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame can force the gearbox to downshift into first gear. If this happens at high speed, it could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. Injuries/Deaths: There are no reported injuries, but Ford know of three accidents related to this problem. The Fix: Dealers will update the powertrain control module software to eliminate the problem, and they'll also replace the transmission lead frame. If You Own One: Ford will begin notifying affected customers by mail on May 23. Related Video: FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUES THREE SAFETY RECALLS AND TWO SAFETY COMPLIANCE RECALLS IN NORTH AMERICA DEARBORN, Mich., April 27, 2016 – Ford Motor Company is issuing three safety recalls and two safety compliance recalls in North America. Details are as follows: Ford issues safety recall and customer satisfaction program for certain 2011-2012 Ford F-150, and 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles in North America to update powertrain control module software and inspect for certain diagnostic trouble codes Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 202,000 2011-2012 Ford F-150, and 2012 Ford Expedition, Ford Mustang and Lincoln Navigator vehicles for a potential issue with the output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame. Under certain conditions, the transmission controls could force a temporary downshift into first gear. Depending on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt speed reduction that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. This condition could result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford is aware of three reports of accidents and no injuries related to this condition. Affected vehicles are equipped with a 6R80 transmission and include certain 2011-2012 Ford F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Truck Plant and Kansas City Assembly Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through March 9, 2012; 2012 Ford Expedition vehicles built at Kentucky Truck Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through Dec. 19, 2011; Ford Mustang vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant, Aug. 19, 2011 through Feb.

2017 Lincoln Continental reimagined as a coupe

Thu, Jan 21 2016

If nothing else, the production version of the Lincoln Continental has provided ample water-cooler fodder around the office. There are a few camps: the "it took guts to build it" folks giving credit where due on a handsome design with an ambitious interior, and the "MKZ misstep" group haranguing the Motor Company for blowing fancy new styling cues on a lesser beast. And yet, unifying forces exist. We can all agree that these artist renders depicting a Continental sans a pair of doors present a captivating notion. Back in 1939, the original Continental was a two-door. Over time, four doors of various types, including convertibles, infiltrated the lineup. The last time the Continental was on sale, it was a four-door front-driver based on the platform shared with the Mercury Sable and Ford Taurus. Even though the new production Continental, like that penultimate one, is based on a front-drive platform, the execution is much different. As you probably already know, it features a so-far unique 400-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 and an advanced torque-vectoring AWD system, standard. Some neat concept car touches, like the fancy door handles and patented 30-way adjustable seats, made it in. What a two-door would bring to the table is mainly stylistic, emphasizing the long parallel character line in the door with brightwork running under the window that's echoed in the lower door sculpting and chrome strip. It accentuates the car's length, and calls attention to the trim taillights and their interconnecting bar element. A longer door makes for a more elegant transition into the C-pillar. It makes the production Continental, with its blacked-out but still obviously chunky B-pillar, look fussy. We don't expect Lincoln to build a coupe – that may be too wild for a company that doesn't seem completely comfortable with the notion of reinvention – but these renders were just too good not to share. Let us know what you think in the comments below. Related Video:
