Very original low mileage, less than 39,000 miles, 1969 Lincoln Mark III. I bought this car about three months ago. From what I can tell the car really hasn't been on the road significantly since 1987. I have a Odometer Disclosure Statement from March 1987 showing the car had 38,376 miles then. The car when I purchased it did not run, barely rolled because the brakes were essentially locked up and was covered in years of dust from storage in a garage. I have since added a new battery, replaced the points and condenser, coil and distributor cap. I replaced the oil and filter and replaced all the coolant fluids. The transmission pan was dropped and the filter on the C6 automatic replaced. All new transmission fluid has been replaced. The old gas tank still had varnished gas in it. I dropped the tank, flushed it out and replaced the float and fuel sending unit. Fuel line was also replaced. The remaining hard lines were blown out to insure no blockages. The rear brakes were rebuilt with new wheel cylinders. The front brakes were rebuilt with new calipers, turned rotors, rubber brakes lines and rebuilt master cylinder.Brand new rear shocks. The brakes have been bled and adjusted and stop the big 'ol Lincoln sharply! I have spent over $1000 in the last week going through the top end of the engine. A lifter had gone bad in its' bore so a new set of lifters and push rods was installed. Two rocker arms needed to be replaced as well. The original carb. has been rebuilt with a new accelerator pump and fuel filter. The car runs great, goes down the road as it should. I have only driven it to and from town because it is not currently registered but have had no issues. The car really looks good from 20 feet away, but it has it's share of knicks and dings, none noticeable. The white vinyl top is fading a little and starting to lift along the rear where there is a little rust along the seem, very minor. The only real rust issue is in the rear driver side bumperette. There is a small bubbled area along the wheel arch on the rear driver's quarter, once again hardly even visible. The interior is in decent shape. The front seat does have some rips in the leather. The rear seats are great, the dash pad is not cracked. The power seats are working. The power windows seem to work when they want. The drivers side window motor is operating but the window is off track. Passenger rear window works fine. Power antennae works, AM radio works, horn sounds like a train! Power locks work. Heater, rear defroster work. Headlight doors open and close as they should. The trunk is amazing with the original trunk mat, jack and original spare tire. The car could be driven safely for a relatively short trip but I would recommend trailering; the tires don't look bad, hold air and have plenty of tread but they have likely been on the car since 1987. The car is sold as is no warranty. No reserve auction with a very low opening bid that is basically what I have in the car. All air conditioning components are in place, except the compressor belt so I don't know if it works or not. I will also entertain any trades. I am particularly interested in 1965-1967 Mercury Comet/Cyclone 2 door coupe or convt. of equal condition value. Questions email or call Dave at 217 826-8141. I am just a private individual that like to tinker with old cars. I have enjoyed getting this one back on the road, but now want a different challenge. I do have the Lincoln listed locally so if it sells before the auction expires I will cancel the listing. Thanks!

Farley says Lincoln learnings in China could influence brand in US

Tue, 14 May 2013

Automotive News reports Lincoln is looking to Chinese luxury shoppers for customer service ideas. Those notions may eventually make their way back to the US in the form of new dealership training. Jim Farley, the executive vice president of global marketing for Ford, tells Automotive News, "In many ways, China will be a listening post for Lincoln in the United States. Soon China will be the largest luxury market in the world." Farley also said that in China, the Lincoln brand is currently where Lexus was when the Japanese brand first landed in the US.
Lincoln is slated to open its first Chinese dealerships in 2014. The brand is largely unknown in Asia, and Lincoln representatives have been visiting other luxury dealers in China for an idea of what buyers there expect. Lincoln has also studied non-automotive luxury shopping, paying special attention to high-end retail branding.
Of course, this whole song and dance feels awfully familiar. Lincoln has focused heavily on remaking the brand and recrafting its marketing here in the States, thus far without sufficient product to back the play. Lincoln is already late to the China game, and without the necessary products to lure buyers away from established bodies like Buick and Cadillac, Lincoln may be doomed to repeat its fate here in the US.

Lincoln hijacks Cadillac's 'Dare Greatly' tagline

Tue, Feb 24 2015

Talk about comedy - not even 24 hours after Cadillac teased its CT6 while inviting us to "Dare Greatly" during the Oscars telecast, Lincoln was doing the same but on Google. An anonymous tipster informed us the day after the Oscars that typing "dare greatly" into Google returned two ads before the search results. When we checked it over the course of a few hours, the first ad was always for Cadillac and either read, "Cadillac - Dare Greatly - Only those who dare drive the world forward," or, "Cadillac - Dare Greatly - It's not the critic who counts, it's the man in the arena." (On a side note, come on, Cadillac - "the man in the arena?" Well. It's a quote. Suppose that's all right, then.) The second result was for Lincoln and read, "Dare Greatly - It's not about making a statement, it's about doing what you love," with the associated URL being www.lincoln.com/dare+greatly. The first time we clicked it, it went to the Lincoln homepage showing the 2015 MKZ Hybrid. The second time, we got a page saying that the Lincoln site wasn't available; the Lincoln site was fine, the link didn't work. There's no reference to the Google joke at the Lincoln site - this was just about getting eyeballs. The English have the perfect phrase for Lincoln's provocation: "You've got some cheek!" We think it cunning, dastardly, and funny, and there's no doubt it worked - they knew people would flock to search the term. One of our competitors, Autotrader, said that within an hour of the first of four Cadillac spots airing during the Oscars, car searches for Cadillac vehicles climbed 53 percent from pre-Academy Award coverage levels. Searches for Cadillac cars were up 120%, they said. If this is Round One of our homegrown scrappy old-timers going at it, we're all for it. Ford rethinking vehicle launch strategy

Tue, 07 May 2013

With a new boss at the helm, Ford is looking at new ways to improve its vehicle launches in North America to prevent recent issues that have popped up with models like the Lincoln MKZ, Ford Escape and Ford Fusion. Speaking with Automotive News, Ford's new president of the Americas, Joe Hinrichs, revealed a few ways the automaker plans to avoid early build issues such as the engine fires on certain 2013 Escape and Fusion models and months-long delays for customers to receive their MKZs.
It sounds like the root of the problems may have been Ford's relationship with suppliers compounded by the fact that the product surge came on the heels of the recent industry-crippling recession, and in the AN article, Hinrichs says improvements are being made to reduce problems during the launch of new or redesigned models. Three such improvements that were implemented during the first quarter of this year including more rigorous quality comparisons, better use of computer technology to catch major problems sooner and hiring engineers to work closer with suppliers.
