Up for auction is a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V Cartier edition.

154,000 original miles.  460 engine, automatic transmission.  The car has most factory options, but it does NOT have a moonroof or factory CB radio.
The car runs well.  No smoke, ticks or knocks.  It could stand a tune-up.  The transmission works well.  The brakes are adequate.  The car just got an oil and filter change.

Mechanically, the car seems sound.  After a tune-up, hoses & belts, and a better set of tires, I would not hesitate to drive this car across country.

Cosmetically, the car is presentable.  It has been repainted the wrong color.  There are a few areas of slight surface rust, and there are two small areas of surface rust just under the "C" pillar moulding on both sides.  There is some very slight bubbling just starting on the lower driver's 1/4 panel behind the rear wheel.  There does not seem to be any other rust issues.  The floors are solid as is the trunk.  There is one section on the trunk lid where paint has noticeably lightened, approx. 18" X 3 1/2".
The vinyl top has been removed and the roof has been painted with textured paint.  There are no dents or body damage.  There is one small upward ding in the hood, and the rear bumper filler has a crack.

Interior:  The interior is in good condition.  The carpet is good, no rips in the headliner, no cracks in the dash.  There is one small tear on the back seat, and some light scratches in the leather in the middle of the back seat.

Functions:  The clock does not work.  The driver's power window does not work, it needs the plastic gear inside the window motor repaired or replaced.  The passenger power door lock does not work.
The driver's power door lock is weak.  It takes multiple pushes to lock it, but it unlocks with one push.  Both power seats work, but the separate driver's lumbar lever does not seem to work.
The factory quadrasonic AM-FM radio works and the 8 track player still plays tapes.  The rear window defrost does not seem to work.
The A/C does seem to work, but needs recharged.  The cruise control sets the speed, but then it seems to increase speed on it's own.  The illuminated entry works correctly.  The power antenna works, but it needs help going all the way up or down all the way into the fender.  The power trunk works correctly.
There is a leak in the vacuum head light system.  When the car is started the head light doors close, but after the car is turned off the head light doors will open on their own after 30 minutes or so.
The tires have good tread, but they are old and have weather cracks.  The spare tire is in very good condition.

I purchased this car a little over a year ago.  I now have other projects that need my attention, so it is time to find this car a new home.

This car has the original window sticker, owner's manual and ownercard.  The title is clear.

This car is in good "driver" condition.  Please read the description and view the photos before bidding.  If you have any additional questions, or would like more photos please email.
You may also call (503) 569-8045 8 am- 11 pm PST.

The car is located in Salem, OR approx. one mile from Interstate 5.

A $50 non-refundable paypal deposit is due within 48 hours of auction end.  The balance paid in cash in person, or certified bank check.
Winning bidder has two weeks to pick up the car unless other arrangements are made.

Thanks for looking.

Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls

Tue, 04 Nov 2014

Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.

These are the cars with the best and worst depreciation after 5 years

Thu, Nov 19 2020

The average new vehicle sold in America loses nearly half of its initial value after five years of ownership. No surprise there; we all expect that shiny new car to start depreciating as soon as we drive it off the lot. But some vehicles lose value a lot faster than others. According to data provided by iSeeCars.com, trucks and truck-based sport utility vehicles generally hold their value better than other vehicle types, with the Jeep Wrangler — in both four-door Unlimited and standard two-door styles — and Toyota Tacoma sitting at the head of the pack. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's average five-year depreciation of 30.9% equals a loss in value of $12,168. That makes Jeep's four-door off-roader the best overall pick for buyers looking to minimize depreciation. The Toyota Tacoma's 32.4% loss in initial value means it loses just $10,496. The smaller dollar amount — the least amount of money lost after five years — indicates that Tacoma buyers pay less than Wrangler Unlimited buyers, on average, when they initially buy the vehicle. The standard two-door Jeep Wrangler is third on the list, depreciating 32.8% after five years and losing $10,824. On the other side of the depreciation coin, luxury sedans tend to plummet in value at a much faster rate than other vehicle types. The BMW 7 Series leads the losers with a 72.6% drop in value after five years, which equals an alarming $73,686. BMW's slightly smaller 5 Series is next, depreciating 70.1%, or $47,038, over the same period. Number three on the biggest losers list is the Nissan Leaf, the only electric vehicle to appear in the bottom 10. The electric hatchback matches the 5 Series with a 70.1% drop in value, but since it's a much cheaper vehicle, that percentage equals a much smaller $23,470 loss. Never mind the naysayers; Lincoln is worth saving

In the case of Henry Leland, naming his new car brand after the first President he cast a vote for in 1864 seemed a jolly good idea, on paper.
You should always be careful about the name you choose to give your new baby. The power of association can work in many ways, not always positive.
