Ford launches pair of recalls affecting fullsize sedans and Transit Connect van

Ford has announced a pair of pretty significant recalls affecting the 2010-2013 Ford Taurus and Police Interceptor, as well as their platform-mate, the Lincoln MKS. A separate recall covers the 2014 Transit Connect. The fullsize sedans include 205,000 vehicles built at Chicago Assembly over a variety of timeframes, ranging between December 1, 2009 and November 30, 2012. The vehicles, 194,889 of which were sold in the United States, have an issue with the spring controls on the interior door handles that could cause the door to open in a side-impact crash. The Transit Connect recall, meanwhile, includes 16,100 vans built between November 6, 2013 and September 20,2014 at the company's Valencia, Spain factory. In these vehicles, the seatbelt fasteners may not have been tightened properly, which could cause them to loosen over time, a condition that's obviously bad news in the event of a crash. Ford says it is not aware of any accidents, injuries or crashes in either recall. Owners will, of course, be notified and asked to report in for inspections and if necessary, free replacements. If the spring is unseated, the door may become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition. Annie Leibovitz goes Continental for Lincoln campaign

Lincoln has a lot riding on the new Continental, and the company is now calling upon renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz to glam-up its new flagship. Her photos are part of a new series dubbed "That's Continental," which the automaker will use in high-end publications and on social media. Leibovitz's iconic photos have been used in magazines like Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair, and she's photographed celebrities, politicians, literary icons, and landmark events. The new series for the Continental is Leibovitz's first attempt at car photography and it follows a road trip theme inspired by the trips she took with her father as a child. The photos for the campaign were shot in New York City with a group of non-professional models, including a musician, an artist, an actor, and a film director and his dog, Seven. "Annie Leibovitz is a photographer of substance," said Lincoln president Kumar Galhotra. "The rich, warm emotions her photos evoke, mirror the feelings we want our clients to experience on all of their journeys in the new Lincoln Continental." Preposed class-action lawsuit targets 'defective' MyFord Touch

A national law firm, Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, has filed a proposed class action lawsuit whose presupposition is that MyFord Touch is defective. Specifically, the complaint states that the system - as well as the MyLincoln Touch and MyMercury Touch clones - often freeze, fail to respond to voice or touch commands and have issues connecting to mobile phones.
According to Hagens Berman managing partner Steve Berman, MyFord Touch is a theoretically "brilliant idea" that falls short in actual execution. Said Berman in a press release, "In reality, the system is fundamentally flawed, failing to reliably provide functionality, amounting to an inconvenience at best, and a serious safety issue at worst."
Other MFT issues enumerated within the 41-page filing include problems controlling the window defroster, rear-view camera and navigation system.
