For 1972, Lincoln raised the bar with its optional Town Car package, which consisted of even higher levels of refinement. Buyers who elected this package for their new Continentals were rewarded with numerous additional appointments that were either optional, or unavailable, on other models, all contributing to a more satisfying ownership experience. This stately 1972 Lincoln Town Car is finished in lustrous White, and features a contrasting Black Cavalry twill grain vinyl top and Black leather interior. The finish has a beautiful luster that is further enhanced by an abundance of chrome and brightwork that is in excellent condition, a testament of the car this Virginia car has received throughout its life. You will also appreciate its optional front bumper guards and vinyl insert body side moldings, which provide additional distinction. The interior tells a similar story of quality and care. Its leather seating areas are soft and supple, and are devoid of imperfection. Similarly, the interior door panels, carpeting, dashboard, steering wheel, and headliner are virtually free of wear. Rich simulated rosewood trim and chrome-bezeled instrumentation house a rarity—a full complement of gauges—not warning lights—including amperage, fuel, oil pressure, and temperature. Town Car interior upgrades, above what was included in the standard Continental, include the following:
You will also appreciate the following standard and optional comfort and convenience items, including the following:
With the exception of the clock, all power options work as they should, including the ice cold air conditioning. Under the hood, you will find a 460 CID V-8 engine mated to a three speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The car runs and drives as well as it looks, having just completed a 700 mile road trip during which it performed flawlessly. It also benefits from a fresh oil change, new air filter, ignition tuning, sealing of the transmission and vacuum reservoir, and rebuilding of the power window gears. Having just 78,000 original miles, this well maintained car will delight for years to come. It should be noted that there are some minor dings on the top of the trunk lid and a small crease in the right rear fender, but these items do not detract from the overall appearance of the car. Included with sale are the original owner’s manual and two sets of original Lincoln keys and key fobs. If a hard-to-come-by early 1970s Lincoln in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition is what you desire, this 1972 Town Car is for you! Ford's Jim Farley hints at Lincoln sales rebound
Thu, 25 Apr 2013If you're a fan of Lincoln, get ready for "a really great story" come May 1. That's how Ford marketing boss Jim Farley, in a call with analysts, characterized the coming April sales report for the MKZ. At the moment, there are probably few things that the executive VP could want more than a happy ending for the ballyhooed sedan that has made people cry boo-hoo for the past six months.
The massive glass roof of the MKZ is trying to support a burden that would make Atlas tap out, and it hasn't shattered, but it has shown a few cracks. The car we called "a big step in the right direction," the embodiment of the reinvention of the brand and a test of Lincoln's commitment to a new rear-wheel drive offering was given an $8-million dollar Super Bowl ad spend earlier this year, then quality control issues during its assembly scuttled deliveries. Lincoln got over that and kept up the ad blitz, now it just wants the good work to take hold.
If Farley's not leading us on, April could be the month. He said the results (so far) show "the product is being very well-received," inventory is finally where it should be and the MKZ Hybrid is doing better than expected. It bears noting that Lincoln is offering some aggressive incentive programs at the moment, including 0.9-percent APR and $1,000 off for conquest buyers stepping out of competitors' vehicles.
Trump did talk to Bill Ford, but the Kentucky plant was never moving to Mexico
Fri, Nov 18 2016President-elect Donald J. Trump has been butting heads with Ford for a while now. A lot of it seems to stem from misunderstanding or misrepresenting facts about how the automaker currently does business and its plans for the future. After a sit-down with executive chairman Bill Ford Jr., the misunderstandings continue, but Trump has apparently convinced the company to make some changes. During his campaign, Trump claimed that Ford was going to fire US workers and move manufacturing to Mexico. That wasn't the case – yes, Ford planned to transfer Focus and C-Max production from Wayne, Michigan, to Cuautitlan, Mexico, but no, that wouldn't mean anyone losing their job. The Wayne plant will continue to operate, and likely busier than before, as it will be the home of the new Bronco and Ranger. So Ford CEO Mark Fields responded with the facts, and then chairman Bill Ford Jr. sat down with Trump over the summer. Things apparently weren't resolved to Trump's satisfaction, so he and Bill Ford spoke on the phone yesterday as he claims in this tweet: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Let's pick that apart. First off, it's not a Lincoln plant, per se – the Louisville Assembly Plant currently builds the Ford Escape and Lincoln MKC, two small crossovers that share a platform. Ford was considering moving MKC production out of Kentucky to Mexico, but it would not have resulted in many lost jobs if any – the union had already agreed to moving the MKC in 2015 negotiations, and taking production of the slow-selling Lincoln out of the plant would open up capacity for more Fords. Be that as it may, Ford has decided not to move MKC production out of the plant, either for political reasons of placation or because it didn't make the greatest deal of business sense, maybe a combination of the two. That means Trump isn't really saving any American jobs in the short term. If anything, this move could keep Ford supply-constrained and result in reduced sales, which in turn brings the company less money and affects the bottom line and all employees. But that's speculation, so we won't tweet it. There is of course the possibility that Ford will be convinced, either by sheer will or by a more attractive trade situation, to invest in increased US production, which could bear fruit later on. We are told by Ford that the two men did in fact speak yesterday.
Honda, Volvo, Lincoln are North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year
Mon, Jan 15 2018The Detroit Auto Show has officially kicked off, as it always does, with the announcement of the North American Car, Utility Vehicle and Truck of the Year winners. For 2018, those are the Honda Accord, Volvo XC60 and Lincoln Navigator, respectively. The Honda Accord beat out two other finalists, the Toyota Camry and the new Kia Stinger. The Accord stood out for its styling, drivability and standard equipment. The Volvo XC60 came out ahead of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Honda Odyssey minivan. It was chosen for its luxury, ride and value when equipped well. The Lincoln Navigator, a heavily updated model that remained true to the concept car on which it was based, beat the Ford Expedition, as well as the only pickup in the list, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 (which was a finalist for Autoblog's own Technology of the Year Award). NACTOY juror Ron Sessions complimented the "more dramatic update" compared to the Expedition. "With its design now aligned with the Continental, the Navigator becomes an even more important image — and the profit-maker for Lincoln," he said. The NACTOY Awards have been around since 1994. A panel of 60 judges, all automotive journalists, whittle the list down to three finalists in each category before announcing the winners in January. The Utility Vehicle category was added for 2017.
