If you want to be anonymous you'll need to keep this one in the garage.  People pull over beside the road when I approach in this look-alike to President John F. Kennedy's Assassination Limousine.  Equipped with double-sided embroidered Flag of the President of the United States and United States Flag with fringe.  On the front you'll find red blinking lights for your use in parades if you wish as well as actual and original Presidential Seals on the back doors on each side.  Inside is a richly embroidered with gold Presidential Seal on the back seat.  It has a public address system which has been disconnected as well as a DVD player which has been disconnected both of which were pulling the battery down when the car sat for long periods of time. This car runs with more get-up and go than a new car.  It probably needs a tune-up as it's slow to start after sitting for weeks of non-use.  It's been used mainly for parades.  It's so neat to drive this car--everyone thinks it's the real assassination car not realizing that it's not a stretch limo like the 1963 Assassination version now in the Henry Ford Museum and turned into a hard top by LBJ.  I'm not kidding that people go nuts when they see this car so don't be surprised.  The previous owner used it to drive to play golf only.  I'm the third owner.  Originally from Michigan and then Ohio and now in Texas the past 10 years and always garaged. Retractable top was working perfectly until I let it sit over the winter closed last year and had to open manually this past summer.  It probably needs fluid only which was the problem in the past.  No rust but a couple of minimal age spots on trunk lid which don't go through paint.  Has an oil leak which I had inspected and is a slow leak on a bent oil pan.  Original interior has cracks to leather as shown in photos but feels smooth to touch and I didn't want to replace original.  Air conditioning was working but leaks fluid so needs repair and who needs it with convertible! Has a leather cover for it.   Buyer is responsible for pick-up in Longview, Texas only 60 miles from Shreveport, Louisiana and 125 miles from Dallas, Texas.  Or you must provide for arrangement of shipment.  Sold as-is and where-is.  Available for complete inspection before purchase.  Just so you will know, Reserve is $39,000.

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.

Huge JFK auction includes two classic Lincolns

Wed, 09 Oct 2013

Want to own a piece of American history? Perhaps you should consider 35th President John F. Kennedy's limousine, a stretched 1960 Lincoln Continental, or the last car he safely rode in before his assassination, a 1963 Lincoln Continental convertible. Both of them will be up for sale at the Camelot: Fifty Years after Dallas auction on October 24, a JFK 50th anniversary auction in Boston.
The black 1960 Continental was part of the presidential motorcade and is bulletproof. The body has been restored to the tune of about $35,000, according to RR Auctions, but the interior was left alone. That's okay, because the winning bidder will be able to enjoy lounging in the well-preserved seats and stepping on the original tan carpeting, just as President Kennedy did. The next owner can even play President, with a divider window, passenger air controls and a two-way telephone - if a chauffeur is hired, of course. The starting bid for the Continental is $25,000.
The other car is more historically relevant (but in this writer's eye, less beautiful), and commands a starting bid of $50,000. The white, convertible 1963 Continental was the last car President Kennedy rode in before his assassination in Dallas - with a notarized document by the car's owner at the time as proof. It was used to transport the President, his wife, Jacqeuline, and Texas governor John Connally "from a breakfast and speech at the Texas Hotel ballroom through the streets of Fort Worth to Carswell Air Force Base, where they boarded a short flight to Dallas on the morning of November 22, 1963," according to RR Auctions. Lincoln specialist Baker Restoration in Connecticut restored the car, which included an engine replacement, body work and paint. Most of the interior, including the seats, are in original condition.

Lincoln's $5B revival bid hinges upon new D6 chassis

Mon, 27 Oct 2014

It's no secret that Lincoln has received short shrift from the Ford Motor Company for years, and former CEO Alan Mullay even wanted to kill the whole thing off when he ran things. Today, things appear to be trending in a different direction. Fresh investment has helped enable a sizable marketing push for its well-regarded MKC compact crossover, a couple of awards for the company and plant the seeds for a major expansion into China. While the situation is still in the early going, it looks like Lincoln is on a tentative (if long) path towards a turnaround. If new reports are accurate, the brand is poised to build on that momentum with its largest investment in new products in years thanks in large measure to a new modular platform codenamed D6.
According to four unnamed insiders speaking to Reuters, FoMoCo is investing over $5 billion over the next five years, partially to create a new modular platform to underpin multiple Lincoln vehicles - and possibly some Ford products, too. Development is reportedly being overseen by the division's new boss, Kumar Galhotra. At the moment, specific details about the D6 chassis aren't yet known, but it's rumored to have the flexibility to support front-, rear- and all-wheel drive vehicles. According to Reuters, the first model using the framework could be an MKZ replacement and seven-passenger MKT successor in 2019.
Until the D6-based models hit, expect to see continued expansion from Lincoln. Ford management isn't trying to turn around the division overnight and is planning "in terms of generations of products," according to current CEO Mark Fields. The strategy unsurprisingly includes a production version of Lincoln's recent MKX Concept, as well as an all-new Navigator using aluminum-intensive architecture. Reuters also claims the MKS is due for renewal in the meantime, including with a longer-wheelbase version to appeal to the brand's new Chinese buyers.
