The Bill Blass identification is in the opera windows. The Lincoln is powered by a 400-cid, 179-hp V-8 engine connected to a three-speed automatic transmission. This Bill Blass Edition 3 owner car purchased in 1977 from SF Lincoln Mercury on Van Ness Ave. Sold in 1979 to 2nd Owner in San Jose, CA and then purchased by last owner in 81. Same Owner from 81 to current year, always garaged. Complete Service records since purchase including all registration tags for every year. Including original owner registration/Inspection tag from SF Lincoln Mercury in 1977. Well documented car with a few minor flaws, only 40,440 Original miles showing on the odometer, original paint, Zenith Wire wheels, this Continental even retains the original space saver spare as well as the aerosol bottle to fill it. Everything works including the Clock!! A/C, P/S, P/B, P/W, Power sunroof, Heated Drivers side Mirror, Original 8 Track player. The 1977-79 Lincoln Mark V is decidedly old-school. Truly the last 1979 passenger car 80 inches wide and 230 inches long with fuel economy barely in the double digits, and with a design putting styling over aerodynamics….the Mark V embodies what traditional “Amercian luxury cars” were known for since the dawn of the automobile. A handsome car in its day, the V’s elegant and crisp lines have stood the test of time well making it a period piece that still turns heads today. Produced for only three model years, many collectors consider it as recognizable an icon today as a 1955-57 Ford Thunderbird, a 1964-66 Mustang, a 1968-70 Dodge Charger (Dukes of Hazzard), or even a 1995-97 Ferrari F50…all vehicles with three-year model runs also. That said, it’s fair to say the Mark V is more an evolutionary design than a revolutionary one. Improving on its predecessor (the 1972-76 Mark IV), the ’77 used the same 120-inch wheelbase as well as same front/rear tread width. While 2.2 inches were added to the overall length for styling, engineers diligently brought curb weight down from 5,000 pounds to 4,600 pounds. Sheetmetal, grille, and bumpers were all new for ’77 and embodied a sharp-edged more angular theme rather than the more rounded and heavier-looking styling of the Mark IV. Three vent slats along both front fenders were new, and served to improve interior ventilation. Evolutionary styling carried over the previous Mark IV’s narrow Rolls grille, vertical “blade” style parking/turn signal lights in front fender extensions, simultated spare tire hump in trunk, concealed headlamps, and opera windows in roof c-pillars. In a 2003 interview, Ford Motor Company designer Don DeLaRossa reflected in Collectible Automobile Magazine back to the Mark Vs development in the 1970s. “The starting point for the Mark V was an alternate design proposal for the Mark IV that had been championed by Gene Bordinat, corporate styling vice president. Bordinat didn’t like the Mark IV design he approved for production. We extended those lines of the Mark IV, straightened them, and kept them flowing….Gale Halderman (head of Lincoln-Mercury design studio at the time) said taillamp blades that wrapped over into the rear fender tops were considered until they proved unpopular in market research.”. 1977 MODELS INTRODUCED October 1, 1976. Base price: $11,396 (80,321 sold). To view a commercial from Autumn 1976 introducing the Mark V at the New York Museum of Modern Art, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daN4tYCssSI. 2018 Lincoln Navigator vs luxury SUV rivals: How it compares on paper
Wed, Nov 8 2017The all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator is an impressive, luxury-lined beast. However, while its Black Label interior stood out most during our first drive of the new Navigator, it also seemed pretty clear that much of this full-size SUV was superior to the competition in a number of fundamental ways. Its Raptor-sourced 3.5-liter V6 had class-leading power for one, and its third-row seat seemed as spacious and comfortable as its rivals' are cramped and barely usable. To search for your next new vehicle, try Autoblog' s Car Finder. Yet, I wanted to take a closer look at how the Navigator fully compares on paper to its competitors - especially the Cadillac Escalade with which it most directly competes. The below spreadsheet should tell the whole story, but as you can see, there's an awful lot of class-leading green highlighter in the Navigator's column. The cargo volume and third-row legroom numbers are particularly telling, with the latter actually going up to 42.3 inches when you slide the second-row fully forward. Now, a few things to note about the above spreadsheet. The GLS-Class is also available as the GLS 550, which boasts a 4.7-liter V8 that just comes up short to the Navigator with 449 horsepower but has to deal with only 5,578 pounds. Its $94,950 price tag is comparable to the Navigator Black Label. Much of the LX 570's information is also applicable to the Toyota Land Cruiser, which, badge aside, could certainly be considered a member of this segment given its feature content and still-hefty price tag. It has better ground clearance and approach/departure angles than its Lexus sibling, along with an as-indicated lower price. Much of the Escalade's information also applies to the GMC Yukon Denali, while the Infiniti QX80 is applicable to the Nissan Armada. 2018 Ford Expedition spied looking stylish
Tue, Sep 6 2016The Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator got a cool reception for their 2015 warmed-over redesign. But with big, high-riding vehicles once again in vogue, Ford is pushing ahead with a ground-up redesign of its biggest SUVs. Based on these spy shots, the Expedition will continue to serve as the Navigator's more affordable twin. Yes, that's a bold prediction, considering we still haven't spotted Lincoln testing the new Navigator, but study the greenhouses on this Expedition prototype and the Navigator Concept from New York – from the arrow-straight belt line to the extra-long rear window to the aggressively raked windshield, this Expedition's overall profile is broadly similar to what Lincoln previewed earlier this year. While our spies claim the new Expedition will look to the F-150 for design inspiration, we see a departure from past Expedition tradition. Unlike the supposed Expedition spy shots we showed you nearly a year ago – which was nothing more than an SUV with an F-150's nose grafted on, this prototype's front-end styling looks softer and more aerodynamic, with a smaller grille and headlights, almost like an Escape or Edge. This kind of change would explain the additional front-end camouflage. In back, our spies rightly point out that Ford fitted a faux rear end to disguise the rear window's rake – expect the real thing to feature the angled rear window previewed on the Navigator Concept. Look at the last image in the gallery for a better idea of how the Expedition's rear window will actually look. We can't say a lot about the taillights, because of the camo, but non-LED taillights are present. We'd expect Ford to offer LEDs on higher trim levels. While the F-150's styling might not make the transition to the Expedition, its powertrains and emphasis on lightweight aluminum will. Our spies report the biggest SUV will ride on a new T3 platform and feature an aluminum body, with the F-150's 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. Expect a ten-speed automatic transmission and start/stop tech for sure, while the smaller 2.7-liter, twin-turbo V6 could slot in as the Expedition's base engine – we're less sure on that one. And we're even more uncertain of the rumors of an Expedition Hybrid. Our spies report it could mate a 3.5-liter V6 with an electric motor(s) and battery packs for a more economical full-size SUV. Expect to see the 2018 Expedition debut in January, at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
2017 Lincoln Model Year Preview and Updates
Wed, Mar 1 2017For those wondering if there's more to Lincoln than a reflective Matthew McConaughey, the debut of Lincoln's all-new Continental - pictured above - should emphatically answer the question. But aside from a refresh here and there, the Continental is effectively 'it' for the 2017 model year. LINCOLN CONTINENTAL: Although the new Continental may not represent the design stretch Lincoln enthusiasts might have hoped, it's a significant step when compared to the Fusion-based MKZ or displaced MKS. With available all-wheel drive and up to 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, the Continental is described by Lincoln as targeting 'culturally progressive clients who define luxury on their own terms.' In short, this isn't a me-too interpretation of German or Asian luxury; it's the Lincoln Motor Company's interpretation of American luxury, on sale in the spring of '17. MKZ: A freshened design with all-new, Continental-esque front fascia offers an upgraded interior, new technology and available Revel Audio. MKC: It is a year of minor tweaks for Lincoln's compact crossover. A power liftgate is now standard, while Auto Start-Stop is available on MKCs equipped with the 2.0-liter and all-wheel drive, standard on 2.0-liter front-wheel drive. And the MKC receives Sync 3 plus Apple CarPlay and Android Audio. MKT: Aside from color revisions, Lincoln's livery car/crossover is unchanged. MKX: Lincoln's midsize, Edge-based crossover receives little more than color changes for 2017. NAVIGATOR: Lincoln's biggest SUV navigates the model year with few changes except for color. However, with the announcement of an all-new Ford Expedition – on which the Navigator is based – in showrooms this fall, an all-new Navigator can't be far behind it. Lincoln Car Buying whats new 2017
