This car arrived here about a week ago, from the original owner, who was moving to CA. It was his wife’s, who passed away some time ago, and has been parked in either a carport or garage for some time. It was last registered in 2005, but may have been parked earlier. It is now currently registered; title is a few weeks away, but I have a copy of the original. Useless, but cute. When it was parked, it had just had a fresh tuneup, lube and oil, filter, and an absolutely full gas tank, which is why I thought the gauge was incorrect. It is not. The engine, transmission and driveline are sweet, smooth and silent. Even after days of sitting, the engine fires immediately (on 10-year-old gas!). The body is fair; there are dings, a minor crunch in the trunk area, and surface rust. I have used rust treatment- hence the black areas. The interior is also fair- I have done nothing but vacuum. Most of the leather is good, one nick in the driver’s seat. The front carpeting is a waste- must be replaced. In the pictures, I have tried to show the good, and the bad. I think that the good (mechanics) far outweigh the bad, but I do not need another project. My reserve is a little less than the Buy It Now; whatever the car sells for, I have promised the first owner to share 50-50. It was his wife’s car- he did not want to see it get parted out. Lincoln - pardon us, the Lincoln Motor Company - assures us that Ford is committed to its success. The awkwardness of the statement (which feels vaguely like your mother telling you that she loves and supports you regardless of what everyone else thinks) was hard to escape when we recently spent a few days with the all-new second-generation 2013 Lincoln MKZ.
Launched earlier this year at the 2012 New York Auto Show, the MKZ is a midsize premium sedan that shares platforms with the Ford Fusion (also all-new for 2013). The sedan's primary competitors, according to Lincoln, include the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Cadillac CTS and Lexus ES Series sedans - each an established, accomplished player.
Ford recalling 850,000 cars and SUVs for airbag issues
Fri, 26 Sep 2014Ford has announced a major recall of 850,000 vehicles from model years 2013 and 2014 due to a problem with the "restraints control module."
According to Ford, a short circuit could develop in the module, causing the airbag warning light to illuminate. In more severe cases, dependent on where the short develops, the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners may not work in the event of an accident. The problems can be more wide-ranging than that, too, as systems that rely on information from the control module, such as the stability control can be affected.
With 850,000 vehicles affected, it's no surprise that some of Ford's volume leaders are covered. That includes the Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans, as well as the incredibly recall-prone Escape and the C-Max MPV.
Ford Q3 pretax profits drop to $1.18B
Fri, 24 Oct 2014Following positive third quarter financial results recently from General Motors, rival Ford took a tumble in Q3. The automaker posted pre-tax profits of $1.18 billion, compared to about $2.59 billion in Q3 2013, a drop of around 54 percent. Net income also suffered with $835 million made in the quarter, versus $1.272 billion last year, a decline of about 34 percent. The Blue Oval blamed the gloomy figures on three reasons in its release: "lower volume, higher warranty costs and adverse balance sheet exchange effects."
There were problems of one kind or another in practically every region. North America experienced higher warranty costs than expected, partially due to recalls. The sales volume for the quarter was 665,000 units, versus 725,000 in Q3 2013, and pre-tax results amounted to $1.41 billion versus $2.296 billion last year.
South America and Europe both posted worse pre-tax results than last year. On the bright side, European volume was up slightly to 321,000 vehicles, from 303,000 in Q3 2013. The Middle East and Africa also lost $15 million, but that was an improvement compared to the $25 million loss previously experienced in this region.
