1969 Lincoln Continental Mark Iii - 27k Original Miles, Great History! on 2040-cars
Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States
Video Link: http://youtu.be/kYu5wk96fP4 The first Mark was a customized version of the Lincoln Zephyr convertible built for the personal use of Edsel Ford. Due to the reaction caused in the Palm Beach "jet set", it became a limited production model in 1940, the Mark I. The Mark II was a 2-year production of 3,000 cars that Ford actually lost $1,000 on each car sold. The Mark name was also used in the late 60's with the word Continental for the large Lincoln as a trim package. Once the Thunderbird went to a four seat model, it outsold the two seat versions and the concept of a "personal luxury" car was born. After his success with the Mustang, Lee Iacocca decided that Lincoln should once again have a personal luxury car. While on a trip to Europe, Iacocca came up with the idea of using a Rolls type grill and using a Continental type bulge on the trunk. The design was confirmed when Henry Ford II saw the clay model and said it liked it so much, he wished he could take it home with him. The Mark III was introduced on April 5, 1968 as a 1969 model with a starting price of $6,585 but most, as optioned, sold around $9,500. It was the first car to be offered with Sure-Track brake system, the first anti-skid breaking system. The car was actually build on the Thunderbird 4-door frame with a longer wheel base than the Thunderbird 2-door, although it shared cowls, windshields, roof panels and door glass. The example offered here for consideration was the very first Mark III in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was bought from Pfeiffer on a handshake by industrialist Leslie Tassel, the owner of Lescoa. At the time, Lescoa manufactured parts for every car built in America. To say that he was flamboyant or interesting personality is an understatement. He had a love of big game hunting and African animals (See the picture of Mr. Tassel with an actual Cheetah in the car flanked by a Roman Chariot pulled by his zebras). He customized this car with a full, real leopard fur interior and personally hand cast the Lion door handles. He also adorned the outside with models of African animals. In the 1990s he gave the car to his daughter and son-in-law. They removed the outside animal decorations and had the car repainted to its original color by Pfeiffer. They replaced the leopard seat covers but left the leopard accents. The car has travelled only 27,000 miles and looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. It is a pleasure to see and drive, and everything functions as it should, including the automatic climate control, which was the first of its kind. You simply will not find another Mark III like this one - such low miles and extraordinary history. |

SNL, Jim Carrey late to the Lincoln MKC ad spoof party
Mon, 27 Oct 2014At this point, making fun of the Lincoln MKC ads starring Matthew McConaughey is getting pretty old, though apparently Lincoln loves it. The commercials have been airing for over a month, but Conan O'Brien, Ellen DeGeneres and even South Park have all taken their swipes at the spots with the smooth-talking actor monologuing about his new luxury crossover. Saturday Night Live might have finally killed the joke in its recent episode featuring Jim Carrey.
The problem certainly isn't that Carrey does a bad job in the spoofs, and he actually pulls off a pretty good McConaughey impression. They start out as pretty direct mimicry and slowly evolve into the absurd, including cracks at McConaughey's acting career and the way he rubs his thumb and finger together. Carrey certainly raises at least a chuckle at times, though.
However, the comedian's engaging performance can't take away from the fact that SNL has arriving to this mocking party pretty late in the game. The jokes just don't feel fresh anymore, so hopefully these ads put the final nails in the coffin for the riffs - at least until the next batch of Lincoln ads arrive.
2016 Lincoln MKX packs plenty of power, MKC-inspired looks
Tue, Jan 13 2015Following on the heels of Ford's unveiling of its new Edge a few months back, Lincoln officially introduced the new MKX counterpart on Tuesday at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Unlike its Ford counterpart, the MKX does away with any notion of a four-cylinder, opting for the buyer's choice of a pair of V6 engines. At its base is FoMoCo's familiar 3.7-liter V6, generating a projected 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, although the real exciting powertrain news focuses on Lincoln's optional engine. Like the Edge, the top-end engine is a 2.7-liter, EcoBoost V6 that promises "more than" 330 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. We'd love to tell you about the performance impact this new engine has on the MKX, but as Lincoln probably hasn't published a 0-60 time since 1967, that simply isn't possible. Suffice it to say, we expect the most potent engine should offer pretty brisk acceleration. Aside from the power increase provided by the MKX's new engine lineup, Lincoln has thoroughly refitted the crossover's exterior, using its handsome MKC kid brother as its inspiration. It's a good look, to be honest, allowing the new CUV to maintain its styling edge over its Blue Ovaled platform mate. Ford recalling 390,000 cars over door latch woes
Fri, Apr 24 2015Ford is recalling certain Fiesta, Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles due to faulty door latches, marking the latest in what seems to be a recurring issue for the Blue Oval. This is the third door latch recall from Ford in 2015, following a 213,000-unit recall in March and a 205,000-unit recall in January. This one, however, is significantly larger. A total of 390,000 units are affected, including Fusions and MKZs from model years 2013 and 2014, as well as Fiestas from model years 2012 to 2014. A "broken pawl spring tab" is the culprit, potentially keeping doors from latching shut. According to Ford, even if the door does shut, it could come open again without warning. The affected Fiestas were built between February 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013 at the Cuautitlan, Mexico factory. The Fusion and MKZ siblings, meanwhile, were screwed together at Hermosillo Assembly in Mexico between July 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013. Ford is aware of three minor reports of door malfunctions. In two cases, the door bounced back open, quite literally hitting drivers on their way out. In the third case, a door swung open of its own accord while a driver was attempting to park, hitting another vehicle. Ford will notify owners, who will need to report into dealers to have all four latches replaced. Scroll down for the official press release. Related Video: APR 24, 2015 | DEARBORN, MICH. FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUES SAFETY RECALL IN NORTH AMERICA FOR DOOR LATCH ISSUE ON FORD FIESTA AND FUSION, LINCOLN MKZ Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for approximately 390,000 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta and 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles for a door latch issue. The door latch in these vehicles may experience a broken pawl spring tab, which typically results in a condition where the door will not latch. If a customer is then able to latch the door, there is potential the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury. Ford is aware of two allegations of soreness resulting from an unlatched door bouncing back when the customer attempted to close it, and one accident allegation when an unlatched door swung open and struck an adjacent vehicle as the driver was pulling into a parking space. Affected vehicles include certain 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta vehicles built at Cuautitlan Assembly Plant, Feb.
