1963 Lincoln Continental Sedan In Silver Mink Metallic - True Survivor on 2040-cars
Chester, New Jersey, United States
This 1963 Lincoln Continental sedan in Silver Mink Metallic, factory leather interior true survivor car was found in Connecticut where it sat in storage for over 14 years. This car is virtually original, except for typical maintenance parts, like rotor and cap, plug wires, plugs, etc.. Odometer has 68,286 original miles on it. Paint is original and has not been touched. It does show some signs of crazing and age, and there are a few very minor door dings on the car. The hood has some surface rust as shown in the pictures. There are a couple of small bubbles on the bottom edge of the driver’s door, but this car is as clean and straight as I have ever seen for a 50+ year old original paint car – especially being from the east coast. It does not look like this car ever saw salt and was garage kept its entire life. The chrome is in good shape with very little pitting. There are scratches on the passenger side of the front bumper and the driver side of the rear bumper. One of the hubcaps has some curb rash. There are also two small dents on the rear bumper to the passenger side of the license plate holder. The interior is entirely original and the leather is in very good shape for being 51 years old. The headliner is solid except for a small 1/2 inch tear above the passenger seat. Please see the pictures showing the defects listed above. Also, hood insulation is missing. Unfortunately, the clock does not work. This car has power seats, power locks and power windows. The driver’s side power window switches have either been refurbished or replaced and all power windows work from all switches. Power antenna still works, as does the radio. Blower motor works as do all dash controls – even the cigarette lighter. I am the fourth owner and I have the original order slip, dealer invoice, window sticker, owners manual and receipts that show a good maintenance history by the prior owners. This car has a clean NJ title. I found the car around January 1, 2014 and have performed the following work to it:
When replacing the brake lines and flushing the fuel system, I had to remove the driver’s side-wheel well access panel to get to the brake proportioning valve and fuel lines – the interior of the wheel wells and firewall showed no signs of rust whatsoever and the undercoating looks completely original. This car is a TRUE SURVIVOR, not just an unrestored car. In my opinion, its easily a number 3+ or 2- car. It runs great, shifts are firm and brakes are strong. It will need an exhaust from the resonators back. The door, window and trunk seals are all original and look to be in good shape, but I would not trust them if you plan on leaving the car outside. Although the wide whites look great and have a lot of tread left, I suggest changing them to new wide white radials. The car comes with an Evolution Fabric cover that is specific to the car. Original jack and tools remain and don’t look like they have ever been used. There is nothing to hide with this car and I believe it speaks for itself, especially in person. If you are in the area, stop by and take a look at it. I have been driving it to work on nice days and she runs great! This is a great driver for cruise nights and an even better candidate for restoration or fun custom project. Please feel
free to ask any question about the car or if you want some additional
pictures. Also, although the listing
says local pickup only, if you are within a few hours of New Jersey, we may be
able to work something out for delivery in an enclosed trailer. Cars like this don’t come around very often. If big sixties cruisers are you thing, you
should take advantage of this rare opportunity.
Good luck bidding! |

Ford hybrids getting update to improve fuel economy
Tue, 16 Jul 2013Ford has announced that it is introducing "calibration updates designed to improve on-road fuel economy for owners of the 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid, 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid and 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid."
We can speculate that these changes are at least due in part to lawsuits over mileage claims of hybrid vehicles. The automaker is enhancing 2013 models starting in August by raising their electric cruising speed to 85 miles per hour from 62 mph, optimizing the use of active grille shutters and the climate control system, shortening the engine warm-up period by 50 percent and reducing electric fan speed to minimize the fan's energy consumption.
It bears mentioning that Ford is doing pretty well in the US electrified vehicle market this year. The company claims to have grown its share in the segment by 12 points to 16 percent while taking a high number of Toyota Prius trade-ins in the process. Conversely, Toyota has experienced a five-percent drop in new-Prius sales over the same period. Additionally, Ford states that it has increased its share of the US vehicle market by one percent this year, more than any full-line automaker.
Lower gas prices mean there are excellent deals on green cars right now
Sat, Jan 17 2015The phenomenon was big enough to make news in 2006, then in 2008, in 2011, in 2012, in 2013, and again last year: a big move in gas prices means a big move in alternative-fuel-vehicle sales. True Car's TrueSavings report, which averages transaction prices across the country to figure out what people are paying compared to MSRP, shows that electric cars and hybrids are ripe for excellent savings right now. The Ford Focus Electric presents the greatest disparity, with the average transaction price of $25,168 representing a 16.1-percent saving off its $29,995 MSRP. The Kia Optima Hybrid and Toyota Prius also snagged spots in the top five, with the Kia offering a 10.7-percent discount and the Toyota a 10.1-percent discount. One hybrid managed to show up among the top five lease offers, too: the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid is just $315 a month for 36 months after $3,875 down in some markets. Alt-energy vehicles got bumped out of the top five finance deals, however. That was dominated by light trucks and, oddly, two subcompacts. The press release below has more details. TrueCar finds hybrids, EVs top list of best savings in January Gasoline price plunge = savings for consumers on alternative fuel vehicles SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford's Focus Electric hatchback, which sells at an average of 16 percent off MSRP, tops January's list of best savings on new vehicles, according to TrueCar, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUE), the negotiation-free car buying and selling platform. The "TrueSavings" monthly report analyzes current transaction prices and identifies opportunities for consumer savings. "Fuel savings are not top of mind to many consumers right now, and that makes this a great time to buy a hybrid or electric vehicle," said John Krafcik, president of TrueCar. "With gasoline prices now averaging just $2.10 per gallon, and vehicle preferences tied so closely to short-term gasoline prices, automakers are heavily discounting their most fuel-efficient cars to clear inventories." Toyota's Prius, the world's best-selling alternative fuel vehicle for more than a decade, also makes January's list of best savings. Customers who purchase a Prius Two model this month can save 10 percent off the hybrid car's $25,025 MSRP. "Gasoline prices and vehicle type preferences are strongly related, and this relationship is cyclical in nature," said Krafcik.
Ford recalls 382k vehicles across six campaigns
Wed, Sep 30 2015Ford needs to repair a total of 381,633 vehicles in North America across six newly announced campaigns, including five safety recalls and one compliance recall. By far the largest of these campaigns covers the 342,271 examples of the 1998-2003 Windstar to double check an earlier recall repair. Among these, 283,413 are in the US and 58,858 are in Canada. The combination of corrosion and stress can cause cracks in the rear axle and eventually lead to the part to snap completely. The company reports a small number of accidents might be connected to this, but there are no injuries. The minivans were recalled for this issue back in 2010, and it was investigated by NHTSA. According to Ford's latest announcement, the reinforcement brackets on some of these models might not have been installed correctly. This time, dealers will perform an inspection. Minivans with incorrectly installed brackets will get a new rear axle. The rest of the owners will be offered a deal to replace the part at a reduced cost. The next largest campaign covers 36,857 examples of the 2015 F-150 to fix a problem with the adaptive cruise control. Specifically, there are 33,481 affected trucks in the US, and 3,376 in Canada. According to Ford, "when passing a large, highly reflective truck" the radar in the system can misidentify a semi as being in the same lane as the pickup. The collision warning system would then activate, slowing the F-150. There's one report of an accident with this happening but no injuries. The fix is simply an update to the adaptive cruise control module software. Ford also has a recall for 1,477 examples of its 2016 F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis models, and they're all located in the US. A manufacturing issue might allow the trucks to shift into reverse without the driver first applying the brakes. There are no reports of any accidents from this, though. To repair the problem, the models get a new transmission shift control bracket and an adjustment to the shift cable. The Blue Oval's safety compliance recall covers 708 examples of the 2016 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, including 658 of them in the US, 28 in Canada, and 22 in Mexico. On these models, a manufacturing problem with the fuel tank could allow it to crack in a crash, which isn't allowed under federal rules. There are no reports of accidents, injuries or fires. The fix will be a new fuel tank for all of them. The company is also repairing 251 units of the 2015 Taurus and Lincoln MKS, plus the 2016 Explorer.
