1963 Lincoln Continental

Up for auction is my beautiful 1963 Lincoln Continental. Perfect example of an original California rust-free classic that's never left the state. I am only the 3rd registered owner to the car and I purchased it from the original family here in Orange County (it still has the matching set of CA black plates). This Lincoln sat covered in a warehouse for almost 3 decades before being restored. All the chrome and stainless steel trim is original to the car and most of it has been re-chromed and polished. Nothing is missing on the car and everything looks just as it should.

The car had the engine and trans rebuilt back in 2008 and it now has about 20k miles since the rebuild. Runs on regular unleaded gas unlike the original engines that required leaded fuel for the softer internal metals. I just had the carb rebuilt last month, installed a new starter, fuel pump, plugs, wires, and changed all fluids. The car runs excellent and feels like you're riding on a cloud at any speed. It’s a big heavy car but has plenty of power with that big block 430 4v engine (320hp/465 lb-ft torque). Car is very reliable and starts on first key turn even if it’s been sitting for days. Engine bay is very clean and most of it has been painted or powdercoated. The suspension, power steering, and power brakes all work great and it drives with great ease for such a large car. No squeaks or rattles anywhere and the engine drives very quite as well. All 4 power windows and both vent windows work fine (had all 10 window switches rebuilt and rebuilt window motors), interior and exterior lights all work, wipers, turn signals, power antenna, gauges, ect. The A/C system is starting to blow cool air and not ice-cold like it use to so it’s due for a re-charge. The new red interior was all done last year which included front and rear seat upholstery with new seat foams, door panels, new wood trim, full carpet, seat belts, perforated headliner, dash detail, trunk area carpet and custom tire cover with embroidered Lincoln emblem ($5,000 interior invoice). Both front and rear 3 piece bumpers were triple chromed and look mint! Also rechromed door handles, emblems, interior chrome trim, and polished some of the stainless steal moldings, I spent over $3,000 on chrome alone. The car was painted a couple years ago with a nice two stage black paint job that still looks great. There's a couple minor paint imperfections from average use but nothing noticable. Car has all original sheet metal and it has never been in an accident. It's never had any rust issues or metal repairs done to it either. Original glass all around in excellent shape as well.  Newer BF Goodrich Silvertown tires with about 90% tread left.

Minor issues that need attention; needs new stereo speakers, power seat needs selector switch rebuilt, needs new door and vent window weatherstripping. Aside from that she’s good to go and can even be used as a daily driver.

This Lincoln turns heads and gets thumbs up wherever we drive it. If you don't like constant attention this car is not for you. I've got a clean CA title in hand with current registration under my name. Car is available for inspection by any serious bidder during this auction so feel free to send me a message with your phone number and I will call you to set up an appointment. As all other classic cars it is being sold in AS IS condition and there is no warranty included in this sale. Please ask questions if you are unsure of anything prior to bidding. View my feedback and bid with confidence. Thanks =)

2019 Lincoln Nautilus replaces MKX crossover as new naming system takes hold

Wed, Nov 29 2017

Goodbye, Lincoln MKX, hello Nautilus. And while you're at it, you can start saying goodbye to Lincoln's arcane alphanumeric nomenclature altogether. Lincoln unveiled the 2019 Nautilus midsize crossover in Los Angeles, taking the wraps (literally) off a ceramic gray version that had been hoisted to the rooftop penthouse of the Dream Hollywood hotel via crane ahead of its formal introduction Wednesday at the L.A. Auto Show. Latin for "sailor," the Nautilus joins the Continental and Navigator to establish a travel theme in the luxury brand's lineup. Robert Parker, global director of marketing, sales and service for Lincoln, said the significant changes made to the midsize SUV made this the right time to switch to a more traditional model name. "We'll do it with other products in the future, we're gonna do it one at a time," he said, without committing to a timetable. The company said nothing about renaming the recently refreshed 2019 MKC compact crossover, for example, nor the MKZ midsize sedan. Parker said the letter-based nomenclature was particularly challenging for customers in China, which has emerged as a key market in Lincoln's third year selling vehicles there. "There's an old adage that the name doesn't make the car, the car makes the name. So there's a degree of that that's played into this," Parker said. "This kind of connection that consumers have, especially with American brands and names, we felt like, is something that Lincoln could own, it's something we've owned in the past, and bringing those two back together, it does make it a bit more effortless for customers." The Nautilus gets its siblings' new signature grille and sidebody badging, welcome lighting from the undercarriage and cabin, and a choice of five new wheel options (out of six total) and three premium Black Label interior trim themes and other perks. It boasts an all-new front end, with everything redesigned from the A-pillar forward, plus a suite of driver-assist technologies like a lane-centering feature that pairs with adaptive cruise control; evasive steering assistance, which uses radar and cameras to lower the risk of rear-end collisions and can help the driver steer around the vehicle if needed; pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection; and active park assist. Inside, there's dark-stained wood trim on the console and minimal controls, with Lincoln opting to keep the cabin spacious, quiet and uncluttered. The rear seats offer best-in-class head and legroom.

Ford recalls 83k Taurus and crossover models for halfshaft issue

Fri, 15 Aug 2014

Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall for some 83,250 vehicles in the US, for an issue with halfshafts. More specifically a "halfshaft retention circlip" might not have been properly installed on affected vehicles, with the result being halfshafts that may move improperly or disengage completely from the linkshaft while driving. The NHTSA release also notes that the issue may occur "without prior warning" which obviously factors in to the timeliness of getting this checked.
Should the halfshaft disengage, a few troubling things could happen. If it occurs while driving, power from the engine will no longer be transmitted to the wheels. And, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied after disengagement of the circlip, vehicles may roll away even if they're transmissions have been placed in "Park."
Affected vehicles are as follows: Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers from model years 2012 to 2014; Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS sedans from model years 2013 to 2014; Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles from model years 2013 to 2014.

Tesla offered nuclear plant in France, and more | Autoblog Minute

Longtime GM design chief Ed Welburn retires, Lincoln says it has high customer interest in Continental, and could Tesla build the Model 3 in France? Senior Editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] General Motors' long time Vice President of design, Ed Welburn, announced his retirement this week. He joined GM in 1972 and he's just the sixth design chief in GM's 108 years. He's being replaced by Michael Simcoe who is Vice President of design for GM's international operations. Now Ed Welburn's time at GM dates back to when he was 11 years old. He wrote a letter to the company saying he wanted to be a designer. [00:00:30] Someone at General Motors got back to him and the rest is history. Lincoln already has 40,000 hand raisers for the new Continental. Now those aren't Tesla figures but it's still a very healthy number and shows a lot of interest for its new flagship sedan. The Continental will replace the MKS in Lincoln's lineup. Continental will be in showrooms this fall and it will offer a 3.0L V6 twin-turbo with 400 HP. Lincoln President Kumar Galhotra said, "No other Lincoln vehicle has [00:01:00] generated this much interest in this little time." This week in Tesla news, Reuters reports that a French government official has offered Elon Musk the site of a an old nuclear reactor to build a car factory. The reactor, which is located in the Alsace region of France, is set to close at the end of this year. Now this notion is not that far fetched. Musk says that he would consider it. Meanwhile demand for the Model 3 continues to be strong and has attracted hundreds of thousands of hand raisers. [00:01:30] Those are the highlights form the week that was. Be sure to come back this Saturday for my full recap where I'll have additional insights into the automotive industry. For Autoblog, I'm Greg Migliore.
