1957 Continental Mark II.  Believed to have less than 500 sold in 1957, so this is a rare car, only manufactured for the 1956 and 1957 model years.  This car is in driver condition.  It was originally a black car.  It was restored many years ago and changed to red.  The body has some metal and fiberglass patches.  The paint shines, but does have nicks and chips throughout.  The stainless is in nice condition.  The front bumper in good condition.  The rear bumper presentable, but some dings and touched up with silver paint.

The interior was also re-done in the original style but with vinyl instead of leather.  It looks very fresh.  The seats are comfortable and without any tears or appreciable wear.  The dash and door panels look very nice without any cracking or damage beyond minor wear.  The carpet is in good condition.
The transmission was rebuilt, engine gaskets replaced, new hoses, new brakes all around including new master cylinder done in 2007 per receipts.
The radiator recored in 2012.
The car starts easily and runs very nicely.  It goes down the street straight and smooth.  The transmission shifts well and there is plenty of torque to get this heavy car moving with ease.  It is a lot of fun to drive.
The wing windows and front windows are power and work.
The horn works.

The bad:
The hood needs adjustment.  Not sure if the hinges need to be rebuilt or if a simple adjustment would work.  It sits high near the windshield.  However it opens and closes without a problem.
There is an exhaust leak.
The parking brake is inoperable.
The rear power windows do not work.
The wipers do not work.
The heater core is disconnected, I assume because it leaked?
The only option this car does not have is AC.
The original air filter housing is missing.
The frame has rust in the usual places.
The gauges do not work. The mileage reads 38516, but is clearly not accurate.
There is some rust bubbling where the patches meet the original sheet metal over the rear wheel openings.
The bias ply tires, while they have a lot of tread, are old.
The windshield and passenger wing window have small pellet type holes (see picture) and passenger window cracked.

I think this car would make a great driver.  If I kept it, I would adjust the hood, replace the tires, and fix the exhaust leak and drive it.  It may be a little too much of a project for a new restoration, but that depends on your abilities and desires.  These cars are worth a lot restored.

I need to get rid of this car as I pushed my luck with my wife.  This is the 5th car I bought on Ebay in the last couple of years.  My wife has been supportive and happy, until now.  We don't have room for any more.  If this one doesn't go, I'll have to get rid of another.  I figure this one will be the easiest to sell and none of us have become attached to it, yet!

A winning bid is a binding contract to purchase.  Please ask all questions before bidding and I encourage inspection of the vehicle.  Vehicle sold as is without any warranty.

Lincoln MKC will be renamed the Corsair in 2021, probably

Mon, Jun 18 2018

Lincoln will be renaming its MKC crossover, calling it the Corsair instead. Automotive News is reporting that the recently trademarked, yet storied Ford model name Corsair will be affixed on the 2021 model year crossover. The report says Ford has already told its U.S. dealers about the name at an Orlando meeting last month. Ford has a long history with the Corsair nameplate in the States and abroad: Most recently, it has been in use in Australia in the early 1990s, in the UK in the 1960s, and before that Ford offered an Edsel Corsair in the late 1950s. Even if an Edsel connection might not be the best possible thing for a Ford product, let alone a Lincoln, it might serve the crossover well as Ford moves to ditch the MK naming convention it's used for Lincoln for the past decade. Still, the manufacturer is said to have cautioned dealers it might opt out of using the Corsair name before production time. At the same meeting, Ford reportedly showed the next-generation Escape, the Explorer, a battery electric crossover dubbed the Mach 1, a yet-unnamed small SUV (which might be the Bronco) , and a new Lincoln Continental complete with suicide doors. The MKC will still receive a refresh for next year, retaining its letters-name for a couple of years before the bigger redesign for 2021. Currently, the MKC is the strongest-selling Lincoln product in China, and it brings in numerous new Lincoln customers there. In the U.S. it's outsold by the MKX crossover and is neck-and-neck with the MKZ sedan.

Do you guys like trucks?

Wed, Jan 17 2018

Do you guys like trucks? If the answer is yes, boy do we have the show for you! The 2018 North American International Auto Show is lousy with 'em. Yeah, we saw the new Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado and Ford Ranger, but that's just scratching the surface. There are big trucks, little trucks, clean trucks, dirty trucks, old trucks, new trucks, red trucks, blue trucks. It's like a Dr. Seuss book. Anyway, we made a little video for you truck nuts (see what I did there?). Check it out above, and if you're looking for more serious coverage of the Detroit Auto Show, we've got it, along with a ton of images and other videos from the show floor. Enjoy! NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue

Tue, 07 Oct 2014

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.
