1956 (lincoln) Continental Mark Ii on 2040-cars

A rare 1956 Continental Mark II. It has been stored inside a garage for over 30 years. I bought it as part of an estate sale. I am a Lincoln (and Continental) enthusiast and had my eye on this car for over 20 years. This particular car, in my opinion, is quite restorable. It spent it's early years in Pennsylvania and I am certain there is where the rust that it has came from. It does have rust coming up, from the bottom of the fenders but, amazingly the doors are rust-free and close like a bank vault. The hood and trunk are essentially rust-free. In fact, any rust that you can actually see is minor surface rust. Because the tires were flat (and would not hold air) I have not been able to inspect the frame... even with only my hand. Based on how solid the car remained while being pulled up on a roll-back truck (and also let down) and how the doors open and close like that of a new car I feel, strongly, for the right person (ie. someone who can do all of their body work, engine work, etc.) that this would be an awesome way of having and owning this extraordinary car at a reasonable price (it's value will only increase). The seats are blue and white leather. In many ways they are good enough for a daily driver. The car does not have air conditioning.

I don't want to leave out the fact that the car will need new floor pans as in the driver's footwell they are rusted-through in many areas. The car is still sturdy enough for one to sit inside and the front seat remains at a normal height. The head light bezels are in the trunk. The car only has two correct hubcaps. The chrome-plating must have been to an incredibly high quality as the bumpers are still shiny. In any event, please feel free to e-mail me with questions and if necessary you can call me. The car is not currently running (or I should say I have not tried to turn the engine over). The trunk floor is completely solid with the exception of a small amount of rust where the spare tire sits. I photographed the bottom of the door sills and the doors themselves... they are not rusty.

Ford tumbles to second worst in Consumer Reports reliability survey, list dominated by Japanese [w/video]

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

It's no secret that MyFord Touch has had its share of problems since being introduced, but the most recent reliability survey from Consumer Reports shows just how much this infotainment system has affected Ford. Just two years ago, the automaker was in the top 10 for the institute's reliability rankings, but since then, it has tumbled to the second-lowest rung just above dead-last Jaguar. In addition to MyFord Touch, CR also attributes a handful of new products that have had issues right out of the gate.
Compiled from 1.2 million subscriber surveys, this year's auto reliability survey heavily favors Japanese automakers, with eight of the 10 spots hailing from Japan. Toyota brands grabbed the top three spots (Scion, Toyota and Lexus - in that order) with Mazda, Subaru, Honda and Acura filling the next four spots. The only non-Asian automaker cracking the top 10 was Audi at number eight.
Audi climbed a total of 18 spots from last year, and Cadillac and GMC round out this year's top gainers breaking into the top 15. Helping Cadillac's upward movement, the CTS Coupe was named the most reliable domestic car. Lincoln, Volvo and Chrysler join Ford on this year's biggest loser list.

Lincoln bringing in MKZ Hybrid over rollaway risk

Mon, 30 Dec 2013

Federal safety standards require that every new car needs to have the brake depressed in order to shift it out of Park. But the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found fault in the transmission range sensor on certain examples of the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, allowing the car to be shifted out of Park without first depressing the brake. The fear is that with this condition, affected vehicles may be unintentionally pulled out of Park, resulting in a possible rollaway. That safety concern has prompted parent Ford Motor Company to issue a recall.
The issue pertains to 7,153 examples of the MKZ Hybrid built between April 26, 2012 and September 24, 2013, covering the 2013 and 2014 model years. As a result, Ford will notify owners to bring their MKZs into their local Lincoln dealer to have the Powertrain Control Module software updated in order to rectify the problem. See the full recall notice below for details.

2015 Lincoln Navigator ready to roll for $62,475*

Wed, 21 May 2014

Fancy picking up a refreshed Lincoln Navigator? Well, prepare to shell out at least $62,475. That's a whopping increase of $6,310 for the now-EcoBoost-equipped SUV.
That's just for the two-wheel-drive Select model, though. Want to drive all four wheels? Better have an extra $3,575 laying around. Snagging the top-of-the-line Reserve model, meanwhile, demands a premium of $7,500.
For those extra bills, you'll net Lincoln Drive Control, complete with continuously controlled dampers, power running boards, Ziricote wood interior trim, upgraded leather, 22-inch wheels, a "unique" interior headliner and, of course, a "Reserve" badge.
