1940 was the first year of the Lincoln Continental. Edsel Ford studied the European luxury cars, returned to the states and directed the design and construction of a 1 off prototype of the Lincoln Continental in 1939. He took the prototype to his winter home in Florida where it created quite a sensation. Lincoln went into limited production of this car in 1940. There were less than 300 Lincoln Continental Convertibles produced in 1940. This car is one of them. Lincoln went to great length to put these cars into the hands of famous people including celebrities, sports figures, successful business people, etc. This car is a survivor. It runs quite well. It is equipped with an optional 2 speed Columbia rear axle. The leather is in excellent shape and appears to be original. The tires have good tread. The paint has heavy patina in some areas, has a good shine and looks great from 10 feet away. The car has free clear Michigan title. The car appears to be in good overall condition but will need work on the lights and windshield wipers. Has a rebuilt distributor, rebuilt coil, new spark plugs, new fuel pump, gas tank has been drained and appears clean; has had a grease job, oil change and filter. The brakes were cleansed and filled with silicone brake fluid. You could use this car as it is or give it a full restoration depending on your tastes and interest.

Lincoln scales back free maintenance

Wed, 05 Jun 2013

Complimentary scheduled maintenance programs have been great tools for luxury automakers to draw in new customers, but some are starting to scale their programs back considerably. According to Automotive News, Lincoln is joining Jaguar and Volvo on the list of automakers reducing the length of time it will be providing free maintenance to its customers.
Lincoln's four-year/50,000-mile maintenance program first kicked off as an incentive in 2010 and became permanent later that year, but starting with the 2014 model year, this will be cut to just two years and 24,000 miles. This could make short-term leases even more appealing for some consumers, but according to Automotive News, some Lincoln dealers are unhappy with the scaling back. The move admittedly comes at an odd time for Lincoln, with parent Ford seemingly working hard to increase consideration among luxury buyers as it looks to reverse the marque's long decline.

Ford recalls 600,000 older-model sedans for braking issue

Fri, Dec 20 2019

Ford is recalling 600,166 older-model Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles over an issue that could affect braking and increase the risk of a crash. The safety recall covers certain Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ sedans from the 2006 through 2010 model years that were built at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico between Feb. 22, 2006, and July 15, 2009. Ford says a valve that is normally closed inside the hydraulic control unit may get stuck in the open position or be slow to close, which could make it harder to engage the brakes and increase risk of a crash. Ford says itÂ’s aware of 15 reports of accidents and two injuries possibly related to the issue. Dealers will inspect the hydraulic control unit for signs of the problem and replace it, if necessary. The dealers will pressure-flush the system with brake fluid and replace the reservoir cap with a new one. Ford is also issuing a small recall of 33 of its 2020 F-150 trucks in the U.S. and 51 in Canada over potentially damaged spare tires. It says the bead area on the tires may have been damaged when it was mounted onto the wheel assembly, leaving it vulnerable to corrosion, separation of the bead wire and ultimately a rapid loss of air pressure and detachment from the wheel. Dealers will replace the spare tire. Affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from Nov. 10-21 of this year.

Is Lincoln working on a Continental concept?

Wed, Mar 25 2015

The Lincoln Continental wasn't included in our post on the list of trademarks we'd like to see turned into production vehicles – the only Lincoln mention was our idea of transferring its Aviator name to a special edition Ford Mustang. But, like you, the idea of a resurrected Continental is always with us, especially when we read articles about the brand's efforts to redefine American luxury. Ford applied for the Continental trademark in 1953 and renewed in 2005, and it appears they might have something to show for it soon. A web snooper found a development site at the Lincoln domain that introduces us to the "elegantly styled and boldly distinctive Lincoln Continental Concept." There are no images, but we've combined all the text into a single image, above, and the hints we get in three blurb texts inform us that "It represents who we are as a carmaker," that it's an "envisioning of what's to come," that "No question went unanswered" and "No answer went unchallenged," and that it "is everything we know about cars, and everything we understand about people." We also found the tagline "Follow us forward," which doesn't appear on any published Lincoln site page at the moment, and the public is invited to get involved (eventually) by tweeting Continental stories and photos. Could this be the next step in the turgid drama Lincoln Rising? We look forward to finding out. Related Video:
