1986 LINCOLN TOWN CAR

SIGNATURE SERIES

35,000 ORIGINAL MILES!

MINT SHOWROOM CONDITION!

SHOULD BE A MUSEUM COLLECTIBLE!

RARE FULL CARRIAGE ROOF & MOONROOF COMBINATION!

Up for auction is my 1986 Lincoln Town Car signature series.  The vehicle color is gorgeous oxford white with admiral blue velour interior (yes, those were really what the colors were called), matching blue carriage roof and dual color blue and grey pin striping.  The vehicle has just 35,678 original DOCUMENTED miles!

The vehicle was purchased new (for CASH) on September 16, 1985 by a gentleman (for his wife) from Eastchester Lincoln Mercury in Eastchester New York.  The total cost of the vehicle was $25,692.10 which is the equivalent of $56,000 in 2013 dollars!  A brand new Town Car in 2011 (the last year of production) was about $45,000 so you can see in perspective how expensive this car was at the time!  I have the ORIGINAL purchase invoice, deposit receipt and window sticker which was carefully laminated to preserve it.

In addition, on November 15th, 1985 the gentleman had the vehicle fully UNDERCOATED as well as a special CLEAR COAT Ultra Seal paint sealant added to the paint to prevent rust, scraping and corrosion.  The rustproofing is guaranteed for the life of the car with unlimited mileage and on the back of the certificate is a map showing all the areas treated. At the same time, he also had the seats treated with “Ultra Fabric Seal” which is guaranteed for the life of the fabric.  I have the invoice receipts for ALL THREE in the wife’s name!

All of the original paperwork related to the car is intact and comes with it.  This truly makes the car a collectible as very few cars come with ALL of the original paperwork.  Included are the original gold owners card, order sheet and dealer invoice, original odometer mileage statement, maintenance schedule and record log book, Lincoln owner benefits report book, warranty information booklet, operating guide booklet, original Michelin tire warranty booklet (there are new tires on it now) and of course, the full leather bound owner’s manual.  As this was the first year for the multi-port fuel injection system, even the yellow and black card that was on the rear view mirror upon delivery cautioning the owner to just start the car and not “pump” the accelerator pedal while starting is included!  All of this comes in both the original white cardboard folder from the dealer as well as the original envelope mailed to the owner from the dealer postmarked November 25, 1985.

I am the third owner of this vehicle (since October 2012).  The second owner purchased the vehicle from the original owner’s estate to use as a daily car for his commute but decided it was too nice to risk daily driving so after keeping it for about a year and a half he sold it to me after putting on about 6,000 miles.  I have put less than 100 miles on the car since I owned it.

This magnificent vehicle comes with EVERY AVAILABLE OPTION for the year with the exception of the digital dash and trip computer (only available with the digital dash).  The list of options includes the following:

Dual power six way seats with manual seat back recliner

Power trunk release with power pull down

Dual illuminated vanity mirrors with bright and dim options

Power heated mirrors

Illuminated outside temperature thermometer on drivers rearview mirror

Analog trip odometer

Tilt steering wheel

Delay wipers

Real factory spoke wheels (in mint condition with no rust or pit)

Dual accent pin striping (blue and grey)

Cruise control

Autolamp automatic headlamps with delay shut off

Autodimming high beams

Fully automatic climate control

Premium sound AM/FM radio with cassette tape player

Keyless entry system with illuminated entry

Carriage roof

Power glass moonroof

Tinted windows (including the moonroof)

Conventional full size spare tire

5.0 liter engine

ALL service records from all the owners (with the exception of oil changes) come with this magnificent vehicle!  The vehicle was always maintained perfectly and needs NOTHING! The body is in amazing showroom condition!  There is one and ONLY ONE blemish on the outside of the vehicle and that is on the thin strip chrome trim piece above the right rear wheel. There is a very small dimple that looks as if it could have been caused by a car door or shopping cart.  I was going to replace the entire trim piece, but I wanted a new one (not used) and I did not have the time to search for one in depth.  However, it’s barely noticeable unless you look hard for it.  The interior of the car is showroom new as well.   You will find NO WEAR whatsoever on ANYTHING inside the vehicle!  Even the driver’s floor mat shows no wear at all!  The same goes for the gas and brake pedals as well as all seats!  There are no rips or tears anywhere on the dash or armrests!

Those who know this car may notice that the “cross hatch” grille has been replaced with the “waterfall” grille from the 1988/1989 model.  This was done by the original owner however the original cross hatch grille comes with the car and is in MINT condition if the new owner wants to switch it back!  Also, the tires should be whitewall but the current tires are only 2 years old and have only 8,000 miles on them so I saw no need to replace them as I don’t take the car to shows.  So the only things needed to make the car 100% period correct is to switch out the grille (it’s held on by clips) and replace the tires for whitewall.

The car also comes with a few spare parts (light bulbs and such), a brand new roll of the rubber body side molding strip (why I don’t know it came with the car) and a BEAUTIFUL INDOOR CAR COVER!

The ONLY reason I am selling this car is because I was forced to take a disability retirement from my job of many years and I can no longer afford the garage I was renting to store my cars.  It is too beautiful to leave in my driveway.  I am a car guy so this literally breaks my heart as I have to sell off 3 of my cars.

I cannot understate the beauty of this car and the pictures I took do not do it justice.  I have a 1976 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham D’Elegance in showroom condition but this Lincoln gets more looks, stares and attention when I drive it than the Cadillac!  This car could truly be in a car museum (and really should)!  I tried to put as much information as possible about the car.  When I sold my 1996 Lincoln Town Car this summer (also in mint condition) I put the same information on the auction.  When the gentleman came to pick it up, he was actually shocked at how beautiful the car was and how it was in mint condition.  I guess it just goes to show how many people lie about cars these days which is a shame because an honest car guy who truly loves these cars like me suffers!  Please message me for any and all questions!

In person inspections and test drives are always welcome!  I live about 45 minutes from Newark International Airport so if you want to fly in and drive the car home, I will be glad to pick you up at the airport or if you want to take the train from the airport to the station 5 minutes from my house, we can do that as well!  European buyers are ALWAYS welcome.  As I live 40 minutes from Port Newark, I can deliver the car there for you to be shipped overseas!

Now for the business end; I won’t insist on a deposit within 24 hours like some nor will I demand the balance in 2 or 3 days forcing you to spend $20 on overnight mail.  I would like full payment within 7 days of auction end though.  The payment must be cash in person, certified check, bank check or money order.  For international buyers ONLY I will take a wire transfer in U.S. Dollars.  As soon as your payment clears, I will send the title to you certified mail.  I can hold the car for a little while if necessary as I know how it is to deal with shippers and their time schedules but I would like the car picked up no later than November 30th because I want to give up my garage rental by that time.

In September a 1987 Town Car with more mileage than mine sold for $8,300!  It was EXACTLY the same as mine except it had white leather seats (with blue interior) and the digital dash.  It was sold by a dealer so no records or “pedigree” came with the car plus it had 2 dings on the hood and one on the door!  If you don’t believe me, check out auction no. 181201617901.  Plus there was that wonderful “deposit”, “full payment within 3 days” and all those added fees dealers charge.  Why buy a car from a dealer like this when you can buy from an individual collector where the car has a complete history and for less money?  Thank you for taking time and interest!

Tesla offered nuclear plant in France, and more | Autoblog Minute

Fri, Apr 8 2016

Longtime GM design chief Ed Welburn retires, Lincoln says it has high customer interest in Continental, and could Tesla build the Model 3 in France? Senior Editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] General Motors' long time Vice President of design, Ed Welburn, announced his retirement this week. He joined GM in 1972 and he's just the sixth design chief in GM's 108 years. He's being replaced by Michael Simcoe who is Vice President of design for GM's international operations. Now Ed Welburn's time at GM dates back to when he was 11 years old. He wrote a letter to the company saying he wanted to be a designer. [00:00:30] Someone at General Motors got back to him and the rest is history. Lincoln already has 40,000 hand raisers for the new Continental. Now those aren't Tesla figures but it's still a very healthy number and shows a lot of interest for its new flagship sedan. The Continental will replace the MKS in Lincoln's lineup. Continental will be in showrooms this fall and it will offer a 3.0L V6 twin-turbo with 400 HP. Lincoln President Kumar Galhotra said, "No other Lincoln vehicle has [00:01:00] generated this much interest in this little time." This week in Tesla news, Reuters reports that a French government official has offered Elon Musk the site of a an old nuclear reactor to build a car factory. The reactor, which is located in the Alsace region of France, is set to close at the end of this year. Now this notion is not that far fetched. Musk says that he would consider it. Meanwhile demand for the Model 3 continues to be strong and has attracted hundreds of thousands of hand raisers. [00:01:30] Those are the highlights form the week that was. Be sure to come back this Saturday for my full recap where I'll have additional insights into the automotive industry. For Autoblog, I'm Greg Migliore. Lincoln Continental Concept has arrived on the New York stand

Thu, Apr 2 2015

The return of the Lincoln Continental, albeit in concept form, has not been without controversy. Bentley chief designer Luc Donckerwolke going as far as to call the car a "copy" of its own Flying Spur, offering to send the British sedan's tooling to Detroit. But while debate can rage over any similarities – you can and should head over and vote in our poll on the matter – can we all at least agree to see something interesting happening with Lincoln design? Gone are unattractive styling trademarks like Lincoln's winged grille, while less polarizing elements like the vehicle-spanning taillights have been refined. The three-box design, meanwhile, dismisses the coupe-like stylings of the latest MKZ , opting for a long hood, short deck and a more traditional three-box layout. The advantage of that, of course, is cabin space. The Continental is designed for rear-seat passengers, offering opulent, Venetian leather seats with Alcantara inserts and 30-way adjustability. Just so we're clear, we have a hard time even thinking of 30 different ways to adjust a seat, so well played Lincoln. The headliner is satin, a briefcase sits in each back rest and dedicated tray tables allow for work on the go. It's plush, even in the world of pie-in-the-sky concepts. Check out our latest batch of live photos of the all-new Continental Concept, live from its stand at the 2015 New York International Auto Show. SNL, Jim Carrey late to the Lincoln MKC ad spoof party

Mon, 27 Oct 2014

At this point, making fun of the Lincoln MKC ads starring Matthew McConaughey is getting pretty old, though apparently Lincoln loves it. The commercials have been airing for over a month, but Conan O'Brien, Ellen DeGeneres and even South Park have all taken their swipes at the spots with the smooth-talking actor monologuing about his new luxury crossover. Saturday Night Live might have finally killed the joke in its recent episode featuring Jim Carrey.
The problem certainly isn't that Carrey does a bad job in the spoofs, and he actually pulls off a pretty good McConaughey impression. They start out as pretty direct mimicry and slowly evolve into the absurd, including cracks at McConaughey's acting career and the way he rubs his thumb and finger together. Carrey certainly raises at least a chuckle at times, though.
However, the comedian's engaging performance can't take away from the fact that SNL has arriving to this mocking party pretty late in the game. The jokes just don't feel fresh anymore, so hopefully these ads put the final nails in the coffin for the riffs - at least until the next batch of Lincoln ads arrive.
