2017 Acura NSX #001 is finally here | Autoblog Minute

The first 2017 Acura NZX rolls off the line in Ohio and Lincoln may be ditching some initials for a classic nameplate. Senior Editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] The first 2017 Acura NSX rolled off the assembly line this week in Marysville, Ohio. Marking the return of the iconic supercar. VIN #001 went to Nascar Owner Rick Handpick. He paid $1.2M at auction for the first NSX. The proceeds went to charity. The 2017 NSX uses a twin turbo V6 teamed with three electric motors to make a total of 573-hp and 476-lb.ft of torque. The supercar also runs a nine speed dual clutch transmission and AWD. The starting price is $157,800 but you can option this thing out to well over $200k. Ford Motor Company applied this month to get the rights to the trademark for the word Zephyr. Lincoln is using some real names again aside from these MKC and MKX things that don't mean a lot to the general public. The Navigator is going strong and a new one comes on next year. Plus it brought back the Continental which was a well revived move. So Zephyr should ring a bell it was used in the 1930s and 40s, it was also used a little less memorably in 2006 on a Lincoln model that was essentially a rebadged Ford Fusion. McConaughey stars in new round of Lincoln ads

Matthew McConaughey's ruminative commercial work with the Lincoln MKC, MKZ, and MKZ Hybrid showed us a side of Lincoln we didn't know existed, and a bunch of spoofs made us laugh about it. Most importantly, though, the partnership worked, leading to a double-digit increase in sales and millions of hits in brand exposure. That's why the actor and the automaker are back together, McConaughey scheduled to return in a new commercial campaign launching September 2 for the 2016 Lincoln MKX. He'll give up the air of cosmopolitan sage, because these ads "dial up the swagger factor" according to Lincoln's group marketing manager John Emmert. Introduced earlier this year at the Detroit Motor Show, the brand put a lot of work into the all-new model, said to be "much improved in how it rides, steers, brakes and looks," offering a more powerful engine, and at least 36 new features including adaptive lighting. Ford's first production implementation of adaptive steering, and Harman's first automobile application of Revel audio will bow with the mid-sized crossover. On top of all that, it's also got that lower price. Emmert said the McConaughey ads will point out "the technology and the beauty of the vehicle." Lincoln will buy time during NFL games as part of the campaign. We have no doubt the anticipation from YouTube and a few celebrity rascals is already high. Related Video:

2018 Lincoln Navigator ad has more weird Matthew McConaughey

Now that new 2018 Lincoln Navigators are on their way to dealers, it's once again time for Matthew McConaughey to be weird behind the wheel in a new commercial. Things start out normally enough with the actor sitting in the SUV at a railroad crossing. But don't worry, it gets strange soon enough because for the rest of the commercial, McConaughey just drums on the Lincoln's steering wheel, a bit like in that disconcerting lunch scene in The Wolf of Wall Street. And the whole time, the actor doesn't say a word. He just drums along to the train and the crossing bells. Then he drives away. And that's it. It's just McConaughey drumming. The ad actually doesn't even show much of the Navigator, and obviously there isn't a word said about it. The most you might be able to learn about the Navigator from this commercial is that it's an SUV, it has an interior that has chrome and leather, and it has those "piano key" buttons for the shifter. We get that the first McConaughey commercials went viral and were frequently parodied for how bizarre they were, and the last Continental ad was also pretty off-the-wall. That was all good for getting attention from younger buyers, but we wonder if these ads are losing their punch and effectiveness. And if they have, then this ad doesn't do anything else to give buyers a sense of what the Navigator is. That's a shame, because the newest Navigator has a lot going for it.
