Rare 1979 Lincoln Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition With NO RESERVE

460 V8, 92k original miles. Rare Diamond Jubilee with Jubilee Gold Moondust Metallic paint and Jubilee Gold Landau Vinyl Roof. This was the most expensive designer model available in 1978, there were only approximately 1800 produced. Options include quarter windows that lower and raise before main window, bronze tinted glass power moonroof with sliding shade, color matched aluminum "turbine" wheels, working 8-track and CB radio, digital "miles to empty" readout, tilt steering wheel, remote trunk release and automatic dimming headlights. Here's a couple of pages describing the features of the 78 Diamond Jubilee:

Mechanical: recent full exhaust system from the engine back including resonator (Lincoln is nice and quiet) new disc brake pads all around as well as front rotors, new alternator, new front end parts including ball joints, bushings and front and rear shocks as well as a set of new tires. The a/c has been retrofitted to modern freon, blows nice and cold. The cruise control works, the windows (small power vent and main) work perfectly, the passenger seat needs a new switch or motor, it does not move. The headlight doors work properly and do stay closed even after the car has not been started for weeks, the vacuum lines have been replaced (common issue, the lines that keep the headlight doors closed dry out). The Lincoln has always been obsessively maintained, anything that needed attention has always been addressed. The motor is quiet, the transmission shifts smoothly, no noises or leaks from anywhere.

Cosmetics: the interior is overall in excellent condition, even the driver's seat does not show wear. The door panels, dash display, padded dashboard, headliner and visors are in very good condition. The top of the back seat where it meets the rear deck has some seams that are opening, otherwise the interior is near perfect. The vinyl quarter top has been replaced about a year ago, looks like new. The paint is original but still shines up well as seen in the pix. The underside is perfectly clean, does not even show surface rust. All floors and trunk solid under the carpet, the Lincoln has never been hit or had any kind of body repair and the chrome shines nicely, one small spot of bubbling on the passenger side where the vinyl top meets the fender as seen in the pic. Includes rare Lincoln garage door receiver, in matched gold color as seen in the pic. She's never been out in the winter, the Lincoln has always been a "Garage Queen".

Engine starts easily even after sitting for weeks, the garage floor is always dry when I pull her out. She cruises nicely on the highway, 460 V8 moves this big girl up the highway with ease. She idles perfectly, shifts smoothly, brakes evenly and the suspension is luxurious. Drives overall like an American luxury cruiser should. All the directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work properly, as well as the wipers and horn.

I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Mark V is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a good door to door auto shipper if you need one.

Rare classic Lincoln which is as much a pleasure to drive as she is to look at. Any questions feel free to email or call 914-224-3230

Best luxury SUVs of 2022 and 2023

Mon, Sep 12 2022

Once upon a time, the idea of a luxury SUV meant a Range Rover, and even that was pretty agricultural by modern standards. Then Jeep Grand Cherokees and Ford Explorers started offering fancy, range-topping versions followed soon by Lexus, BMW and Mercedes dipping their toes in the water. And then the floodgates opened. Today, there is a staggering number of luxury SUVs available in every shape, size and price point. There are electric luxury SUVs like the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace, as well as gas-swilling, high-performance SUVs like the BMW X5 M and Cadillac Escalade V. Sports car makers Porsche, Aston Martin and Lamborghini have even dived in.  But of this great many, which are the best luxury SUVs? We sat down, scoured our reviews, took some votes, had some discussions and came up with the luxury SUVs we view as the best. They are listed alphabetically within the six segments listed below.  Best Subcompact Luxury SUV   |   Best Compact Luxury SUV   |   Best Midsize Luxury SUV (Two-Row) Best Midsize Luxury SUV (Three-Row)   |   Best Flagship Luxury SUV (Two-Row)   |   Best Flagship Luxury SUV (Three-Row)  Best subcompact luxury SUVs Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class Why it stands out: Outstanding space and versatility; legit luxury interior; amusing GLB 35 versionCould be better: Overwhelming and confusing tech interface Most subcompact luxury SUVs are a dubious value, with cramped interiors of marginal quality and unrefined driving dynamics. You'd be much better off paying less money for a loaded, non-luxury compact SUV. The Mercedes GLB is different, though. Its boxy design provides space few other subcompact SUV can match (luxury or otherwise), while its cabin design and feature content are in keeping with pricier Mercedes models. The quality's not exactly up to GLC standards, nor is driving refinement, but the difference is appropriate for how much you're saving and still perfectly acceptable. There's nothing dubious about buying a GLB.     Volvo XC40 Why it stands out: More features for the money; spacious and versatile interior; distinctive design; electric versionCould be better: Fuel-efficient base engine only available with FWD Most subcompact luxury models feel a bit like cheap knockoffs of their bigger, pricier brand mates. The XC40, by contrast, is a break from the Volvo norm in a good way.

2015 Lincoln MKC

Mon, 09 Jun 2014

Back in 2012, Lincoln claimed its comeback bid was finally underway with the new-for-2013 MKZ. But don't you believe them - the renaissance won't actually begin in earnest until the shapely compact crossover seen here reaches showrooms in big numbers. That's because while the four-door MKZ was indeed a proper step toward rebirth, the 2015 MKC is the first wholly conceived vehicle under Lincoln as a standalone brand, a move first announced back in 2012.
That's an important distinction, because Lincoln's newfound emancipation from Ford's design and development processes has given the struggling marque both the corporate wherewithal and the will to develop a more fully formed product. The four-wheeled result seen here is a surprisingly cohesive luxury CUV, one with significantly more aesthetic and dynamic separation from its Ford Escape sibling than the MKZ and its Fusion counterpart. Said another way, after flogging Lincoln's latest for hundreds of miles over canyon roads outside of Santa Barbara, we've come to understand that this is far from a re-grilled Dearborn special with luxury tinsel - it's a bona fide standalone product that readily displays the sort of clear differentiation seen in platform cousins like the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan. It's the real deal.

Lincoln 'not true luxury' yet, says Ford design chief

Wed, 28 Aug 2013

Lincoln is "not true luxury," according to Ford's design boss, J Mays. His statements come from a story in The Detroit News that saw candid language on the issues facing Ford's troubled premium brand. Notably, there's a need for a strong character, with Mays saying, "Every brand needs to have a DNA and a unique selling point and things in the vehicle that make you think, 'That's that particular brand.'"
With a range of rebadged Fords, it's not hard to see why that DNA is missing. Mays hinted that a full recovery for Lincoln will be a ten-year process, that's been kicked off with the MKZ sedan. While that car is still largely a Ford Fusion under its extremely pretty wrapper, it's the first Lincoln in some time to inject its own unique take both through the exterior styling and through interior features, such as the vertical, pushbutton gear selection.
Some analysts weren't so certain about Mays' 10-year estimate. Jim Hall of 2953 Analytics thinks it'll be more like 30 years before Lincoln can show a true return to form. The issue, as Hall explains it, is that, "luxury has a degree of exclusivity," that Lincoln just doesn't have. Michelle Krebs from Edmunds adds, "it's definitely a wanna-be luxury brand," comparing the troubled American brand with Infiniti and Acura, two other brands that have struggled to find their place in the luxury market.
