Ford recalls 600,000 older-model sedans for braking issue

Ford is recalling 600,166 older-model Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles over an issue that could affect braking and increase the risk of a crash. The safety recall covers certain Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ sedans from the 2006 through 2010 model years that were built at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico between Feb. 22, 2006, and July 15, 2009. Ford says a valve that is normally closed inside the hydraulic control unit may get stuck in the open position or be slow to close, which could make it harder to engage the brakes and increase risk of a crash. Ford says itÂ’s aware of 15 reports of accidents and two injuries possibly related to the issue. Dealers will inspect the hydraulic control unit for signs of the problem and replace it, if necessary. The dealers will pressure-flush the system with brake fluid and replace the reservoir cap with a new one. Ford is also issuing a small recall of 33 of its 2020 F-150 trucks in the U.S. and 51 in Canada over potentially damaged spare tires. It says the bead area on the tires may have been damaged when it was mounted onto the wheel assembly, leaving it vulnerable to corrosion, separation of the bead wire and ultimately a rapid loss of air pressure and detachment from the wheel. Dealers will replace the spare tire. Affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from Nov. 10-21 of this year.

Lincoln Navigator is the people's choice for best of Detroit Auto Show

At a big auto show, you hear a lot of from automotive journalists about the outstanding cars on display — for example, Autoblog's own editors' choices from the Detroit Auto Show. But the Detroit News does something neat instead. It asks the public to vote in its annual Readers' Choice Awards. And coming out on top was the 2018 Lincoln Navigator. The newspaper collars 100 attendees at the North American International Auto Show and asks them to vote. This year, the public's pick as Best of Show coincided with the North American Car of the Year voters, journalists who picked the Navigator as the Truck of the Year. (We at Autoblog were wowed by the Navigator, too, but our editors' choices were limited to vehicles that were revealed at the show — the Navigator has been out long enough, that we've actually driven and reviewed it.) The Navigator on display at the show has the ultra-plush Black Label interior. It's a $95,000 rig. No surprise then that hit was also the public's choice in the category of Best Road-Trip Ride. The public's other choices: Best Dream Machine — Ford GT. Best Family Fun Finder — Chrysler Pacifica. Baddest Off-Road Vehicle — Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Coolest Technology — BMW i8 Roadster. Most for Your Money — Kia Stinger. (Commenters on our recent Drivers' Notes review said the Stinger was a media darling the public won't buy, but these voters, at least, liked it.) Consumer Reports says these are the worst new cars of 2014

Consumer Reports has announced its annual list of worst vehicles, a cringe-inducing contrast to its list of top vehicles. Ignominiously leading the way in 2014 is Chrysler, which has a staggering seven models listed.
Jeep nearly sweeps the small SUV segment by itself, with its Compass, Patriot and 2.4-liter version of the new Cherokee, while the only midsize sedans listed by CR were the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger. The new Dodge Dart and the Dodge Journey round out CR's condemnation of Chrysler.
Ford is taking heat as well, with the Taurus, Edge and their counterparts from Lincoln all listed as the worst vehicles in their respective segments. Toyota doesn't fare much better, with its Lexus IS, Scion iQ and tC also making the list.
