1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V Givenchy Edition.  NO RESERVE!!  This car will sell, so be prepared to bid!  I purchased this car from the family of the original owner.  It has 53,039 miles on it which I believe to be actual.  The engine is a 400 2bbl which runs great.  The car is equipped with all the standard options all of the Mark Series has, like power locks, seats (both), windows, trunk release, interval-wipers, cruise control, AM/FM/8-track radio with remote seek (working), rear defrost, etc.  The things which I know are not working are the passenger door-lock actuator and the A/C, which needs a recharge (compressor is free and connected).  Exhaust is new and carb has been recently rebuilt.  The car starts and runs very well and all the other options I mentioned are working properly.  It tracks straight on the highway and rides like only a Lincoln does!  One other mechanical component which needs attention is a bushing in the steering linkage which is sloppy.  It does not affect the driveability of the car, but is annoying as the wheel turns slightly before the steering engages the steering gear.  It is a common problem for Marks which I haven't gotten around to fixing.  The car doesn't appear to have had any Winter use at all as it is very clean and all original so far as I can tell.  The pinstripes are all intact and all the paint matches from panel to panel and is very glossy.  This IS an original car and IS NOT flawless.  I would call it an exceptional example of an original 34 year-old vehicle, but it does have chips which have been touched up with the correct paint.  It is not banged up, dented, or full of dings.  The original owner clearly took good care of it and I have had it in climate-controlled storage.  The original spare is in the trunk and appears to have never left as it still has blue residue on the whitewall and the seams on the tread show no wear whatsoever.  The interior is outstanding and really needs nothing.  The original floor mats are intact and the carpet is excellent.  The dash and arm-rests have no cracking at all, and all of the glass is good.  The rear-view mirror on the passenger side swivels around a bit and probably needs to be disassembled and tightened up.  I have done my best to accurately describe this car.  It is not my wish to mislead anyone about anything whatsoever, so if you have specific questions about the car please ask, and you can count on an honest answer.  If there are views of the car you would like me to provide, please message me and I will get them to you ASAP.  Please feel free to call if you would like to talk more about the car of ask me any questions.  I have been collecting Lincolns for nearly 20 years and am very familiar with these cars.  Thank you for looking!  -John 701-729-6839  Buyer will be required to provide a non-refundable $500 deposit within 48 hours of auction end time.

Lincoln MKC Concept shows real promise [w/video]

Sun, 13 Jan 2013

Ford's efforts to resuscitate its moribund Lincoln luxury brand began in earnest with the introduction of its 2014 MKZ sedan, a model many labeled as the marque's make-or-break offering. Of course, one model does not a comeback make, and with the MKZ just now starting to trickle into dealers, it will be some time before America's jury of consumers comes in with their judgment. More to the point, it's likely to take better than a decade's worth of products and sustained marketing effort to even begin to figure out whether Lincoln has a shot at redemption or if it will die of Mercury poisoning. After all, rival General Motors has been pouring resources into Cadillac since the late '90s, and if the sales charts are any guidance, it's still probably too early to declare its rebirth a success.
Certainly, a brand with Ford's resources, free of distractions (read: the now-defunct Premier Auto Group and various other side projects) should be able to successfully market a single luxury brand, particularly one with such a rich - if distant - history. Especially now with the Blue Oval enjoying more consumer goodwill than at any time in recent history. So let's all give Alan Mulally and friends a little room to work, eh?
We can start by focusing on the compact crossover seen before you, the Lincoln MKC Concept. Riding atop the same global C-platform that underpins the Ford C-Max, Escape and Focus, the MKC showcar here presages a production small CUV that will stick its distinctive nose into one of the auto industry's fastest-growing segments.

Ellen DeGeneres sends up Matthew McConaughey's Lincoln ad

Mon, 29 Sep 2014

Lincoln had to have known that when it released its new ad campaign for the new MKC with Matthew McConaughey, it would open itself up to a bit of good old fashioned ridicule. The television commercial was, after all, good for a laugh or two. And true to their mission, talk show hosts haven't missed the opportunity to have a little fun at Lincoln's and McConaughey's expense.
Conan O'Brien was first to send up the television spot, but now Ellen DeGeneres has taken a stab at it too, superimposing herself in the back seat of the compact luxury crossover, downing some pot brownies and generally playing Costello to McConaughey's Abbott. It's worth a watch, if only to see Ellen getting down in her usual, offbeat style.

Lincoln to adopt Mini-like personalization strategy?

Fri, 18 Jan 2013

There's no single silver bullet that will cure all that ails the Lincoln brand, and Ford knows that just as surely as we do. Coming out with exciting new models like the well-received MKC crossover counts as several steps in the right direction, assuming of course that the production version is as appealing as the concept just shown at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, but more is needed. According to Jim Farley, executive vice president of Lincoln, one more trick may be "mass customization."
Put another way, Lincoln is considering ways to allow buyers to customize their new vehicles right off the showroom floor, similar to how things are done at Mini, and, to a lesser extent, Scion, where Farley previously served as corporate manager. Imagine, for instance, ordering a new MKC with a large Lincoln insignia embossed into the leather seatbacks, according to Automotive News.
While we're not so sure anybody is all that interested in paying extra for more Lincoln logos, it's a strategy that has proven rather fruitful at Mini. Only time will tell if Ford's erstwhile luxury division will once again be seen as something truly worth reaching for, and if customers are willing to pay a further premium for customization.
