1939 Lincoln Zephyr on 2040-cars

1939 Lincoln Zephyr1939 Lincoln Zephyr Four door sedan, Exterior: Black, Interior: Black, I bought this car at a recent auction and have decided I did not want to undertake a restoration of it for personal reasons. My reference book says it is a model H-73 4-dr sedan - 6P and there were about 16,663 sold in 1939. It has hydraulic brakes, which were standard of Lincolns in 1939 and also is equipped with a voltage regulator instead of the generator cut-out. One of the distinctive features of this model is the dash with symmetrically positioned dual glove boxes, plus centrally located speedometer and gauges. The car starts and runs. The V-12 engine was replaced prior to my getting the car with a V-8 Ford flat head of probably 1949-1953 vintage. It appears the interior was replaced true to the original and is in very good condition. It appears the original gauges are all there, but do not work. The body of the car is in relatively good condition and the paint looks pretty good, even though, if I were to keep the car, I would do a repaint and a body off restoration. Car-crazy 5-year-old boy writes automakers for treasures, gets big response
Fri, Jan 25 2019Part of the beauty of children is that they can find worth in something adults might deem unworthy or overlook entirely. Five-year-old Patch Hurty didn't see garbage or a broken piece of a car when he spotted a Ford badge lying on the side of a road. He saw an artifact, a souvenir, a start to a collection he could only dream of. Ezra Dyer of Popular Mechanics tells the story of Patch and his quest to turn that one lost badge into a museum of manufacturer logos. According to the article, Hurty is a car fanatic through and through, even using car names as a way of learning to read. After finding the Ford badge near his Connecticut home, he and his mom put together a plan to reach out to dozens of automakers, confessing his love of things on four wheels. In each letter, Patch assembled a picture of himself standing next to one of the cars, and a penny to pay for whatever he hoped was sent his way. The response was unexpectedly and overwhelmingly positive. Of the more than 50 letters he sent out, including to obscure or defunct companies such as Bugatti, Suzuki, and Saturn, a majority responded with warm notes and some type of souvenir. Two of the coolest responses came from Lincoln and Bentley. Lincoln sent a sketch of a Continental (all car lovers enjoy drawing cars, right?), and Bentley sent a wheel center cap. How awesome is that? The story reminds us of something that can easily be lost in all of the negativity involved with the auto industry: Everybody is in this because of a common infatuation with automobiles. Yeah, we saw the new Ram 1500, Chevy Silverado and Ford Ranger, but that's just scratching the surface. NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs
Mon, 11 Mar 2013It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
