**PLEASE NOTE: This car was involved in a MINOR accident in 2011, which resulted in MINIMAL damage to the front bumper, which was replaced by a Lincoln Certified Center.  There is NO visible damage anywhere on the car, other than one small (car door) ding on the rear driver side door.  This is the incident that is referred to in the FREE vehicle history report.

Lincoln refers to the MKX as a CUV, which is short for crossover utility vehicle. The different acronym is used to suggest that a crossover is closer to a car than a truck. This minor distinction also helps the best of both worlds marketing position the MKX is taking: all-wheel drive mobility and tall seating position of an SUV with the handling and performance of a sedan.

So does it work? From a styling standpoint, the MKX definitely takes a sporty stance. And the chrome grille, which spans the entire distance between the headlights, is a distinctive design touch shared with other new Lincolns, the Navigator and the MKZ. The seat height is definitely a good middle ground; the MKX is easy to get in and out of, but still offers the tall vista that SUV buyers are seeking.

The MKX is powered by a new 3.5-liter DOHC V-6.  The 0-to-60-mph time comes in at a respectable 8.1 seconds.  The engine is smooth, and it delivers all 250 lb-ft of torque with surprising refinement. In the handling department, the MKX delivers a very SUV-like 0.75 g on the skidpad. But the ride is nicely isolated from the road while still keeping body roll under reasonable control.

The interior of the MKX, covered in faux-metal satin trim with wood accents, is as quiet as a library. Even the panoramic sunroof - which is a large front sunroof combined with a glass roof for the rear seats - doesn't make much noise when open. Rear-seat passengers that want to enjoy the skylight can recline the seats 15 degrees, and when folded the rear seats increase the cargo capacity from 32 to 69 cubic feet.

This all-wheel-drive MKX is loaded with options including adaptive headlamps, heated-and-cooled front seats, a DVD navigation system, a 14-speaker THX sound system, the big panoramic sunroof, and a power liftgate, all of which makes it pretty deluxe.

Lincoln owners in San Diego, your chauffeur awaits

Fri, May 12 2017

In an effort to make up lost market share, Lincoln is trying desperately to differentiate itself from other luxury automakers. The automaker is offering and expanding a number of services aimed at setting itself apart not only from Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Audi, but also the Fords that so often share showroom space. One such offering, the Lincoln Chauffeur, is expanding beyond its initial rollout in Miami, Florida, across the country to San Diego, California. The concept is simple. For $30/hour, a chauffeur will drive you around in your own vehicle, stopping at the store, the gas station, or even at school to pick up the kids. The chauffeur can do these things with or without you present, meaning the driver can drop you off at the airport and return the car home, allowing others to use the car rather than leaving it parked at the airport. The service is available to old and new Lincoln owners, though the former get eight free hours to try the service. San Diego was part of a planned expansion. If things continue to go well, look for further rollouts in cities across the country. Related Video: News Source: Lincoln via Automotive News Lincoln Ownership

Lincoln Continental death looms with changes at Flat Rock Plant

Tue, Aug 20 2019

Ford's Flat Rock Assembly plant just south of Detroit produces the Ford Mustang and the Lincoln Continental. Automotive News reports that the automaker plans to produce two battery-electric crossovers at the facility, the EVs scheduled for sale in the 2023 model year. The EVs were previously meant to be built in Ford's Cuautitlan Stamping and Assembly plant in Mexico, which builds the Fiesta. According to the AN piece, moving the EVs to Michigan means the end of Lincoln Continental production in the U.S. Sunset is expected in "late 2021" for a sedan that is just three years old, and that never got the momentum to assert itself and reassert the Continental nameplate. The Continental has been on death watch since at least March 2018, when Ford Authority reported that the luxury sedan wouldn't get more than one generation. The changing of several guards in the top ranks scotched a plan to move the Continental onto the CD6 platform for rear- and all-wheel-drive vehicles. In September 2018, Jalopnik put more meat on those crossbones, saying Flat Rock workers alleged the big Lincoln could bid adieu as soon as this year, and automaker insiders had seen production merely scheduled — not approved — for 2020, with nothing beyond that. Then, as now, Ford appears to be leaving open the possibility for Continental production to continue in China, and just maybe be exported here. The two twinned midsized EVs, using the codenames CDX746 and CDX747, would come in Ford and Lincoln flavors. Said to be roughly the size of the Ford Edge/Lincoln Nautilus platform siblings, the automaker has requested suppliers gear up for annual production of up to 65,000 units between the two models. When they arrive, they'll form part of the 16 EVs Ford plans to have on the market worldwide by 2022. The others we know of so far are the crossover that will channel the Mustang, an electric F-150 pickup, and an EV project with Rivian.

SNL, Jim Carrey late to the Lincoln MKC ad spoof party

Mon, 27 Oct 2014

At this point, making fun of the Lincoln MKC ads starring Matthew McConaughey is getting pretty old, though apparently Lincoln loves it. The commercials have been airing for over a month, but Conan O'Brien, Ellen DeGeneres and even South Park have all taken their swipes at the spots with the smooth-talking actor monologuing about his new luxury crossover. Saturday Night Live might have finally killed the joke in its recent episode featuring Jim Carrey.
The problem certainly isn't that Carrey does a bad job in the spoofs, and he actually pulls off a pretty good McConaughey impression. They start out as pretty direct mimicry and slowly evolve into the absurd, including cracks at McConaughey's acting career and the way he rubs his thumb and finger together. Carrey certainly raises at least a chuckle at times, though.
However, the comedian's engaging performance can't take away from the fact that SNL has arriving to this mocking party pretty late in the game. The jokes just don't feel fresh anymore, so hopefully these ads put the final nails in the coffin for the riffs - at least until the next batch of Lincoln ads arrive.
