 THE GOOD:
  • This is a one-owner car, originally purchased on September 20th, 1978.
  • It has 41,XXX original miles.
  • The original interior is in very good to excellent condition.
  • The vinyl roof is in very good to excellent condition.
  • The car does run and drive and has a nice comfortable ride.
  • Michelin tires are in good to very good condition.  Bought new in 2009.
  • The flip-around headlight mechanisms do work.
  • Brakes work very well.

MINOR ISSUES:
  • There are some small paint chips and scratches in the paint.
  • There are no major dents, major rust, or other major body damage to the car.
  • The chrome has some pitting and is beginning to dull.
  • The air conditioning, defroster, and heat controls all work, but the AC does not blow cold air.
  • 1 headlight bulb needs replaced.

MODERATE ISSUES:
  • At lower speeds, such as from a stop, the engine will stop running if the gas pedal is pushed down too hard. Above 20-25 mph it runs perfectly and has a nice comfortable ride.
  • The driver's and passenger's side doors have both a small triangle-shape window and the main electric window.  The trim piece that separates the two windows is missing on the driver's side.
  • Electric windows may or may not work.
  • Fuel gauge always reads empty and Low Fuel Light remains on regardless of how full the tank is.

I can provide more photos and attempt to answer any questions, so please feel free to ask.  The car will be SOLD AS-IS.

Thanks and good luck bidding.

2002 Lincoln Continental concept should've made production, headed for auction instead

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

It seems like the retro design aesthetic in autos might be petering out, with even a former poster child like the Ford Mustang taking a step in a more modern direction. Sometimes those updates of old-school models really worked well, though. Just take a look above at the Lincoln Continental concept from 2002 that took the extruded shape of the 1960s version and updated it for the new millennium.
Now there's a chance for this gorgeous concept to take a spot in your garage, as RM Auctions is selling it as part of a 130-plus-car, no-reserve auction of the Sam Pack Collection on November 14 and 15, in Dallas, TX. Among the lots for sale are a number of Fords, including several recent concepts from the brand. "My collecting philosophy is simple: buy what I like, but always with an emphasis on quality," Pack said in the auction announcement.
The Continental concept absolutely nails the mix of modern and retro. Its perfectly crisp lines make the shape appear hewn from a single piece of metal, and there's just the slightest ornamentation with the angled, chrome slats in the grille and chrome strips over the wheel arches. It even retains the suicide doors from its inspiration.

Lincoln Continental brings back suicide doors with Coach Door Edition

Mon, Dec 17 2018

Remember that teaser image from last week indicating the Lincoln Continental would get suicide doors? Well, it's happening, and we got to check out a prototype late last week. As you can see from the photos, the vehicle is essentially a stretched Continental with rear doors that latch forward. Lincoln doesn't call it the suicide door edition, of course. No, the proper name is 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition. Semantics aside, the car is here to pay homage to the suicide doors of the 1960s Continental and celebrate 80 years since the original Continental was introduced. That's the why; now here is the how. To build this special edition, a Continental begins life as a normal Black Label model, and leaves the factory with normal doors intact. From there, Lincoln ships the car to Cabot Coach Builders in Massachusetts for the stretch and other modifications we'll get into later. Before you start cursing Lincoln for not really screwing together a suicide door Continental, know this: Lincoln engineered all the components, metalwork and everything else that goes with the build. It then gives the car and components to Cabot for the fabrication work. So yes, somebody else is doing the conversion, but you're still getting a Lincoln-engineered vehicle. Make of that what you will. Cabot has done work for Ford before with the MKT and Transit Van, but Lincoln says it's much more involved in this build than it ever was before. To begin, the Continental gets a six-inch stretch. It was a relatively long car before, but boy does this thing look like it's lounging now. That's exactly what you'll be doing once inside those suicide doors. Lincoln claims best-in-class legroom, and yes, to our eye that is surely accurate. Someone well over 6 feet tall could easily stretch all the way out and still have room to spare back there. The only problem we noticed? Headroom. A sloping roofline combined with seats that are well pushed back doesn't leave a whole lot of space up there. It looks like Lincoln noticed this and carved out little spaces in the headliner, but it might not be enough for those who are closer to the sky than most. A flow-through center console occupies space where the middle seat would typically be. This has all sorts of controls for things like audio and climate control. Lincoln said the one we sat in wasn't entirely finished with all the features and electronics that will be included.

Ford recalling 850,000 cars and SUVs for airbag issues

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

Ford has announced a major recall of 850,000 vehicles from model years 2013 and 2014 due to a problem with the "restraints control module."
According to Ford, a short circuit could develop in the module, causing the airbag warning light to illuminate. In more severe cases, dependent on where the short develops, the airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners may not work in the event of an accident. The problems can be more wide-ranging than that, too, as systems that rely on information from the control module, such as the stability control can be affected.
With 850,000 vehicles affected, it's no surprise that some of Ford's volume leaders are covered. That includes the Fusion and Lincoln MKZ sedans, as well as the incredibly recall-prone Escape and the C-Max MPV.
