1978 Continental Mark V -- Spectacularly Preserved --14,409 Actual Miles Here is a fully-optioned Mark V that has rarely seen direct sunlight, stored since the end of the 70s under blankets in the original owners' garage. Not a designer edition, this striking automotive landmark represents Lincoln's full-sized, personal luxury coupe in its purest form. The 1977-79 Mark V was Lincoln's final three-year run of the Mark in a decade that celebrated "huge". It is widely considered the best built and designed of the later 70s American luxury coupes, sharp of line and still elegant. This car, uncovered not far from the dealership that sold it, retains all the sparkle and freshness it had when it was purchased brand new. Attention-grabbing in Dark Red Metallic Moondust and larger than life, this gorgeous Mark V has clocked a scant 14,409 miles since it left the assembly plant in Wixom, MI. It is highly optioned and fully-documented, and comes complete with every tag, manual or piece of paperwork it was factory or dealer supplied with, including the original window sticker, metal ownercard, and not one, but two build sheets. The smallest details original to the car are intact -- a reminder label to make sure the gear selector is engaged in park, the Ford plastic envelop that can also "be used as a litter bag", even the driver's starting instructions still mint and wrapped around the visor. Purchased in July, 1978, for a hefty $16,082 at McKinney Lincoln-Mercury in Salem, Oregon, this Mark was little driven, and lovingly stored for decades. Motive power is the 7.5 litre 460, an option for 78 and phased out in 79. The big block is complemented by a four barrel and optional dual exhaust system, and though all Detroit engines were now de-tuned, it still packs 360 lbs. of torque. In standard trim, the Mark V was already loaded, but this coupe came with an additional 21 options as shown on the window sticker. Among the extra-cost amenities are power vent windows, miles to empty indicator, and a time-capsule quadraphonic eight track. (See full option list below). The massive doors swing easily. Opening one, you are greeted by the Red/Rose Luxury Group interior, well padded with leather and a delight. All is as new and unmarked, and amazingly fresh. By appearance, no one has ever sat in rear. Simulated wood paneling is shiny and rich. Air conditioning keeps the cabin wonderfully cool, the second hand on the Cartier clock fluidly spins, and the silence and comfort while gliding down the road are unmatched. You feel the weight and solidity Lincoln engineered into this car. So did Lincoln's customers. The new for 77 Mark V handily outsold its nearest competitor, the barge-like Eldorado. Larger than the previous Mark IV, yet 400-500 pounds lighter due to weight-saving metals, the Mark V returned better fuel economy and stopped better as well -- with the advanced Sure-Track four-wheel disc brake system. Extreme originality is what this Mark V is all about. It's still rolling on the Michelin 225-15 X radials as equipped, with generous tread left. The optional full-sized spare and jacking equipment has never been remove. The paint and chrome are lovely, the landau roof unfaded, mechanical and electrical systems faultless, every switch or button operates as designed. The Continental Mark V, last of the breed. Jock Ewing drove one in the TV series Dallas. That show is gone, but Jock's taste in large and exclusive automobiles is still with us. A survey of the recent sales prices for this American luxury classic shows a dramatic appreciation curve, with no end in sight. This Mark is in the topmost tier of documented, as delivered, extremely low-mileage cars and is offered at an obtainable price. Shipping arranged nationally and internationally. Ford issues six recalls covering 101,000 vehicles for multiple issues
Tue, 08 Jul 2014Ford is announcing six separate recalls for a variety of issues affecting a dozen models and a total of 100,610 vehicles in North America. However, according to Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker, "None of them have caused accidents or injuries." Half of them cover fewer than 1,000 cars.
The largest recall covers 92,022 North American examples (about 83,250 in the US) of some models of the Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS, Ford Interceptor, Flex and Lincoln MKT from the 2013 and 2014 model years; the 2012-2014 Edge and the 2014 Lincoln MKX. All of them have a potential issue with the halfshaft on the right side that might not be fully seated and could move outward over time. If it shifts too far, the models may no longer be able to drive, and the condition could also allow the vehicles to roll away, even when in Park. Dealers will inspect the shaft to make sure it's seated and will replace the part if necessary.
The next-largest recall covers 5,264 North American examples (4,867 in the US) of the Ford F59 Commercial Stripped Chassis from the 2011-2014 model years. It's possible that an electrical junction box can corrode in areas with salty roads and short circuit. The problem could potentially cause a fire. Dealers will replace the box with an improved design.
Ford recalls over 680,000 Ford Fusions, Mondeos, and Lincoln MKZs for seat belt pretensioners
Fri, Dec 2 2016Update: We spoke with a Ford representative who said that owners will be notified by mail during the week of January 16 . Dealers will also have the fix available at the same time. Owners can bring in their vehicles to dealers for an evaluation in the mean time. The main text has been updated to reflect this. The Basics: Ford is recalling 680,872 2013-2016 Ford Fusions, 2015-2016 Ford Mondeos, and 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ s for an issue with front driver-side and passenger-side seat belt pretensioners. The Problem: The seat-belt pretensioners did not have sufficient insulation applied. When the pretensioners are activated, the heat generated can cause the cables connected to the belts to separate, which in turn can prevent the seat belts from effectively restraining the occupant. This can lead to injuries. Injuries/Deaths: Ford reports two accidents and two injuries have occurred that are related to this recall. The fix: A dealer technician will inject an insulation coating around the pretensioner. This should effectively keep the heat away from the cables, ensuring the seat belt will properly restrain the user in a collision. If you own one: Affected owners will be notified by mail on the week of January 16. Dealers will have the fix available that week, and owners will be able to bring in their vehicles for the fix to be implemented free of charge. Related Video:
With gaps in product portfolio, Lincoln embraces experiences
Fri, Dec 1 2017In one sense, Lincoln is on a roll. It rides out the year having unveiled three substantially refreshed SUVs — the new full-size Navigator, the MKC crossover and the Nautilus, the new name for its top-selling MKX that Lincoln revealed in Los Angeles. The company is on pace to sell 50,000 vehicles this year in China, a four-fold jump after just three years in that market, and its sales growth in the U.S. outpaces its competition in the luxury segment. And analysts applauded the brand for moving away from its confusing alphanumeric naming system as a way to differentiate itself. But Lincoln remains far behind its competitors, with a market share that lags the likes of Lexus, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and even Cadillac. Its product portfolio is more limited too, heavy on hot-selling SUVs, but with only two cars — far fewer than the German luxury brands — and no marquee sports cars. Instead, Lincoln made it clear in Los Angeles that it's leaning heavily on creating distinctive experiences for its customers — its strategy focuses on being "warm, human and effortless" — as a way to stand out from the field. One way it's trying to do that is through its Black Label program, which offers premium interior trim options like unique leather stitching patterns, Alcantara headliners and laser-etched aluminum accents, and combines all that with a suite of services. Black Label members get an enhanced premium maintenance plan that includes wear and tear, anytime car washes and annual detailing, a dedicated concierge and the ability to be custom-fitted for a vehicle at their home. It also comes with a Culinary Collection, a curated list of more than 50 participating restaurants across the country that offer exclusive reservation assistance, visits from the noted chefs and other perks. Lincoln is introducing a new "Gala" Black Label theme on its new Nautilus, which it says is inspired by a night at a fashion gala. It's an interior decked out in what it calls Carmine Red, reflecting a popular color in fashion, with perforated seat stitching that form interlocking Ls. It joins the Thoroughbred and Chalet Black Label themes for the new Nautilus, which goes on sale next spring. Other Black Label themes including the Navigator's Yacht Club theme, with a Chroma Blue exterior paint color, upgraded leather seats and whitewashed teak wood in the center console, and Center Stage, with jet black Venetian leather with red accents, available on the MKC.
