FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION, I AM SELLING MY 1969 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL. I PURCHASED THIS A YEAR AGO TO RESTO-MOD, BUT I HAVE TURNED MY ATTENTION TO ANOTHER PROJECT. THIS CAR IS AN EXCELLENT FOUNDATION FOR A FIXER UPPER. THERE ARE VERY FEW RUST SPOTS, FLOORS AND TRUNK ARE IN GOOD SHAPE AND NOT RUSTED THROUGH. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NOT RUNNING, AND NOTHING REALLY WORKING ON IT. I HAVE TONS OF HOURS INTO GETTING IT RUNNING, AND GETTING THINGS WORKING ON IT. I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY, AND USED TO DRIVE IT (UNREGISTERED) TO MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD, SO I KNOW THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT GREAT. MY FIRST GOAL WAS TO SEE WHAT IS BROKE, WHAT I CAN FIX, AND START WITH A CHECK LIST OF GOODIES TO SEE WHAT I NEED TO START FINDING. I FIRST GOT THE CAR RUNNING. I DRAINED THE FUEL TANK, OVERHAULED THE CARBURETOR, INSTALLED A NEW STARTER, PULLED THE SPARK PLUGS, RAN COMPRESSION (ABOUT 200-220 PSI ON ALL CYLINDERS) PUT IN NEW SPARK PLUGS, GAPPED THE POINTS, INSTALLED NEW FUEL, AND FIRED HER UP. SHE KIND OF RAN POORLY, I TRACED DOWN A FEW VACUME LEAKS, PUT IN SOME FUEL TREATMENT, AND SHE SLOWLEY STARTED RUNNING BETTER. I WOULD START HER UP EVERY DAY, AND RUN HER DOWN THE ROAD FOR A FEW MILES ONCE A WEEK. I FOUND THAT SHE LEAKS A LITTLE ANTIFREEZE, AND POWER STEERING FLUID. THESE OLD CONTINTENTALS HAVE A CRANK MOUNTED POWER STEERING PUMP, WITH A REMOTE RESIVOR FOR THE STEERING FLUID. SECONDLY THE WINDOWS DID NOT ROLE DOWN, SO I REMOVED THE DOOR PANELS AND STARTED GOING THROUGH THE SWITCHES AND WIRING. I RAN DIRECT VOLTAGE TO THE MOTORS AND FOUND OUT THE MOTORS ARE GOOD. I CLEANED OUT THE INSIDES OF THE DOORS, LUBED UP ALL THE GEARING AND TRACKS, AND REBUILD EVERY DOOR SWITCH. I GOT ALL THE WINDOWS WORKING, WITH THE DRIVER WINDOW GIVING ME FITS. THE DRIVER WINDOW WOULD WORK INTERMITTANTLY, AND I SOON FOUND THAT THE WIRE THAT CLIPS TOTHE SWITCH PIN WAS NOT MAKING A GOOD CONTACT. I SOLDERED THE CONNECTION (WHICH WAS A CRAPPY SOLDER JOB) AND IT WORKED ALL THE TIME. LONG STORY SHORT, NOW ALL THE WINDOWS WORK INTERMITTANTLY NOW, SO I WOULD IMAGINE SOMEONE WOULD WANT TO MAKE ALL GOOD CONNECTIONS AT THE SWITCHES. I REALLY DIDNT CARE ABOUT PERFECTION AT THE MOMENT BECAUSE I WAS JUST GOING TO RIP EVERYTHING BACK DOWN AND REWIRE ANYWAY. MY GOAL WAS JUST TO MAKE SURE THINGS WOULD WORK, OR I COULD GET THEM TO WORK. I TURNED MY ATTENTION TO LIGHTS, HORN, SIGNALS ECT. THE SIGNAL RELAYS WERE BURNED UP, SO SIMPLY REPLACING THE RELAYS GOT THOSE WORKING. FUSES WERE CORRODED FOR THE OTHER LIGHTS. LAST I CHECKED ALL THE LIGHTS, WHICH WAS A FEW WEEKS AGO, THEY WERE ALL STILL WORKING GREAT. I NEVER DID PAY ATTENTION TO INTERIOR LIGHTS, AS THEY WERE NOT A CONCERN FOR ME. AT THIS POINT, I WAS GOING TO GET THE CAR REGISTERED AND INSPECTED AND DRIVE IT. BEFORE REGISTRATION, I WANTED TO GET THE AIR CONDITIONER WORKING, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, 100+ DEGREE TEXAS WEATHER TOWARDS THE END OF SUMMER IS NO FUN IN A BLACK COLORED CAR. I TRIED TO PULL A VACUME ON THE A/C SYSTEM, AND I COULDNT GET 1 INCH OF MERCURY TO SAVE MY LIFE. I FOUND THAT THE A/C COMPRESSOR WOULD JUST POOR PHREON OUT OF IT, SO I STARTED RESEARCHING COMPRESSORS, AND TRIED TO MAKE A DECISION ON WHICH DIRECTION I WANTED TO GO WITH A/C I FIGURED AT THIS POINT, I AM NOT GOING TO REGISTER IT UNTILL I CAN GET THE A/C WORKING. I DECIDED TO GET THE DRIVER SEAT ELECTRONICS WORKING. THE DRIVER SEAT SWITCH IS ONE PEICE WITH 3 SWITCHES THAT CONTROLS ALL THE RANGES OF THE SEAT. ONE OF THE BACK SIDES OF THE BAKELITE ON ONE OF THE SWITCHES WAS CRACKED. I KNEW I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO FIND A SWITCH, OR GET REALLY CREATIVE. I DID SUPPLY A DIRECT 12 VOLTS TO ALL THE MOTORS IN THE SEAT TO SEE IF THEY WORKED, AND AT THAT TIME THEY DID. I DO NOT KNOW IF THEY DO NOW. THE LAST THING I DID (AROUND NOVEMBER) WAS TAKE THE CAR TO MY GIRL THAT DOES INTERIORS, AND HAD HER QUOTE ME A PRICE TO REDO IT ALL IN LEATHER, THEN A FEW DAYS LATER, I FOUND A BRONCO, AND QUIT PLAYING WITH THE LINCOLN, AND FOCUSED ALL MY ATTENTION ON THE BRONCO, AND PARKED THE LINCOLN BEHIND THE SHOP. I DECIDED I WOULD SELL THE LINCOLN AROUND JANUARY, PULLED IT OUT JUST TO FIND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKE CALIPER LOCKED UP, AND THE REAR BRAKES QUIT WORKING (NEVER LET ANYTHING SIT) SHE ALSO DOESNT RUN AN GOOD AS SHE USED TO, AND ONE DAY STARTING IT, I FOUND OUT I HAVE A TOOTH OR TWO GROUND DOWN ON THE FLYWHEEL, SO OCCASONALLY YOU HIT THAT FLAT SPOT, AND HAVE TO TURN THE CRANK BY HAND TO GET PAST IT. SHE KIND OF HAS A LITTLE SPUTTER TO HER NOW, I HAD ONE MECHANIC THAT STOPPED BUY TO LOOK AT HER TO PURCHASE TELL ME THERE IS A VALVE STUCK. I TOLD HIM I RAN COMPRESSION IN THE PAST, AND IT WAS SUPRISINGLY CONSISTANT, SO IF THATS THE CASE, ITS STUCK CLOSED. I REALLY DONT THINK SHE HAS A STUCK VALVE, DOESNT REALLY MATTER TO ME ANYWAY, BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO OVERHAUL THE ENGINE ANY WAY. THERE ARE TWO PIECES OF TRIM MISSING ON THE PASSANGER SIDE IN THE PICTURES. ONE RUNS UNDER THE DOORS, AND ONE RUNS THE TOP OF THE REAR FENDER. I HAVE THOSE PIECES. WHAT I DO NOT HAVE IS THE "CONTINENTAL" THAT GOES ACCROSS THE FRONT OF THE HOOD, THE BADGE FOR THE TRUNK KEY, AND IT SEEMS LIKE THERE ARE BADGES ON THE REAR FENDERS NEAR THE TAIL LIGHTS MISSING. EVERYTHING ON IT IS PRETTY BONES STOCK AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, OTHER THAN THE BLACK PAINT, THE CARBURETOR, AND THE INTERIOR CARPET I BELEIVE IS NOT. THERE IS HARDLY A SPOT OF RUST ON IT. I HAVE HAD GUYS INTERESTED IN IT LOCALLY THAT HAVE SENT BODY GUYS AND MECHANICS TO LOOK AT IT, AND THEY WERE IMPRESSED WITH THE CONDITION, AND HAVE RECOMENDED TO THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT ITS WORTH FIXING UP. ANYONE THAT IS FAMILAR WITH LINCOLS KNOWS HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND PARTS, AND KNOWS THE VALUE OF THIS CAR HAVING MOST EVERYTHING WITH IT. I PAID FOR A TITLE TRANSFER WITH THE STATE ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO. THE STATE TAKES ABOUT TWO WEEKS TO GET A TITLE BACK TO YOU. AS OF THIS EXACT MOMENT, I DO NOT HAVE A TITLE IN MY HAND. I DO HAVE THE TRANSFER PAPERS (WHITE SHEET) AND SHOULD HAVE THE TITLE IN MY HAND BEFORE THE AUCTIONS END. THIS CAR DOES HAVE A 100% CLEAR CLEAN TITLE, AND IF IM NOT MISTAKEN BY THE PAPER WORK, I AM THE 3RD OWNER ON THE CAR. THIS CAR IS A GOOD SOLID HONEST CAR WORTH FIXING UP, I DONT THINK I LEFT ANYTHING TO SUPRISE OR CHANCE THAT I KNOW OF. IT IS FOR SALE LOCALLY, AND I DO GET A TON OF ATTENTION ON IT. Lincoln opens the doors again to the Continental Coach Door Edition
Fri, Oct 4 2019Last year, Lincoln did a limited — just 80 — run of stretched Continentals with '60s-style suicide doors to mark the nameplateÂ’s 80th anniversary. (The Continental launched in 1939 as a special project of Edsel FordÂ’s.) Those cars, officially the 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition, quickly sold out. That enthusiastic reaction prompted Lincoln to commit to a return engagement. As promised, Lincoln is back with a Coach Door Edition of the 2020 Lincoln Continental. The essential elements are the same as last time. The sedans are based on the top-spec all-wheel-drive Black Label trim level and powered by the 400-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. TheyÂ’re stretched six inches between the axles, and the longer rear doors are rear-hinged. The work again is being done by Cabot Coach Builders in Massachusetts. The rear-hinged doors retain the ContinentalÂ’s signature exterior door handles that are integrated into the beltline molding with electronic releases. Inside, a full-length center console divides the rear seats and incorporates a table, wireless device charging, audio and climate controls, and tablet/notebook computer holders. The doors each house a Lincoln-branded umbrella, and the door sills are illuminated. Three exterior colors are offered: Chroma Crystal Blue, Infiniti Black and Pristine White Metallic, with the latter two available in a monochrome treatment. Inside, buyers have their choice of two themes: Alpine / Chalet or Jet Black / Thoroughbred. A standard all-wheel-drive Black Label starts at $75,470 (before options), but the 2020 Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition will start at $115,470 (plus destination fee). This yearÂ’s production run will be approximately 150 cars, and order books open today (Friday, Oct. 4) with deliveries scheduled for spring 2021.
2020 Lincoln Aviator 450-hp PHEV will get its own exterior visual cues
Fri, Nov 30 2018Lincoln will brand its powerful plug-in version of the new Aviator crossover as a GT hybrid package with a few distinguishing visual cues when it goes on sale next summer. The luxury PHEV crossover will do battle with competitors like the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, Volvo XC90 T8 and BMW's (incredibly long-winded) X5 xDrive45e iPerformance. The "GT" designation harkens to the golden era of grand touring and is meant to convey the combination of high performance and comfort over long distances. "It's really trying to get at how Lincoln is redefining luxury performance," said Brad Jager, the Aviator brand manager. The hybrid system will deliver 450 horsepower and a whopping 600 pound-feet of torque, which are increases of 50 hp and 200 lb-ft over the pure combustion version powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. Lincoln isn't releasing expected electric-only range or fuel economy, and it's keeping most of the details of the hybrid system under wraps for now. It has said you'll also be able to hold the charge to be deployed later, such as for short trips in town. Lincoln is, however, making a few subtle exterior changes to designate the GT hybrid setup, which will be offered in the higher-end GT and Black Label trim models (the entry-level Aviator and Reserve models will be available only in gasoline combustion versions). First are changes to the Lincoln star badge on the grille and Aviator badge on the side flanks, which fill in with a blue color borrowed from the original Lincoln V12 badge from the 1930s and '40s — a neat touch on a vehicle that is reviving a nameplate. The grille itself is also an inversion of the new Lincoln treatment appearing on models like the Navigator and Nautilus. So where the grilles on those models have cutouts, the GT hybrid grille has protruding shapes that dissipate the further away they are from the center badge. Lastly, the PHEV will come with 21-inch wheels instead of the 22-inchers that equip non-hybrid versions. Lincoln says it designed the rear-wheel-drive architecture with the Aviator in mind, allowing the battery to go underneath the passenger-side second-row seats and maximizing interior space. Engineers also fit an electric motor between the V6 engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. Lincoln hasn't announced pricing on the Aviator, which goes on sale next summer, and the plug-in hybrid versions will obviously command a premium.
2017 Lincoln Continental spied inside and out
Thu, Jul 9 2015Lincoln certainly made us stand up and take notice when it unveiled the Continental concept at the New York Auto Show this past March. Showcars, however, are only worth so much if they never reach production. But as these latest spy shots indicate, Ford's luxury division is hard at work taking the new Conti from show floor to showroom. The team from Dearborn has clearly gone to great lengths to disguise this prototype, wrapping it in a new type of camouflage with trompe l'oeil bulbous-looking shapes to keep us from seeing just how close the production version will keep to (or how far it may stray from) the concept's design. Our spy photographers did, however, manage to snap some shots of the inside through the side glass, and though it's still evidently some ways off from reaching production, some key details give us an idea of what to expect. Look closely and you can make out the buttons for the transmission running down the side of the infotainment screen, just like on other new Lincolns. The chromework appears to have been toned down some from the blinged-out dashboard of the showcar, but it may be too early to say how much shine there will be to the production model. The overall design of the center console looks pretty darn close to the version we saw in New York, though. The Continental is expected to replace the MKS, as Lincoln moves away from alphabetical nomenclature back towards actual nameplates. Assembly is slated to be undertaken in Flat Rock, MI. There are a great many more details yet to be uncovered, but as far as early indications go, it looks like Lincoln is well on its way to making its concept a reality. Related Video:
