1966 Lincoln Continental Suicide Door Convertible on 2040-cars
Oroville, California, United States
1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible Thank you for looking. This car is complete and unmodified, except for paint, with a clear title and 82,215 actual miles. Originally Dark Metallic Green, has since been painted Black. Included are the owners manual, 1 set of original keys, and 1 set of NOS key blanks. We purchased the car in May 1990 from someone in Ohio, and it had 70600 miles on the odometer. It has been a California car ever since, but being from Ohio, there is rust in the body, and Bondo filler too, although the previous owner told us there wasn't any rust. Contact me if you would like closer up pictures than what is here in the listing. So it will need paint and body work to be a show quality car, but not necessary to be driveable. To my knowledge, there are no rust holes in any of the floor pans either. We drove the car until 1993, and it has sat, covered, since then. It was parked because of needing a new Master Cylinder, and all the transmission seals need replacing too. Never found the time to work on the car, so it just sat. Now it is time to let it move on to someone who can put the time and care into it. The 462 engine starts easily and runs smooth. There is a small crack in the right side exhaust manifold. The gas in the tank is over 20 years old, so the gas tank will probably need cleaning. To start it every once in a while, I run a fuel line from the fuel pump to a gas can to use fresh gas. The transmission shifts smoothly too, but as mentioned above, needs all the seals and gaskets replaced. It runs good, but is not driveable as is. Twenty some years ago, all windows and window switches worked, except the rear door windows don't drop automatically when the rear doors are opened. Probably needs new relays. The trunk lid still works, and the top worked with only 1 relay bypass to get it to unlock. I have not tried the top since then due to the age of the material. Everything else worked at the time too, except the A/C compressor, which seems to be seized up. The top was torn in a wind storm since the pictures were taken, and has been taped up, no rain entered the interior. The framework for the top is in good condition. All weatherstripping needs replacing. The interior is basically in good shape. No holes in the seats, door panels or carpet, and all trim pieces are there. There is a small crack along the speaker grille in the dash pad, and the drivers side arm rest housing is cracked, so it hangs a bit off center. There is pitting in the dash panel chrome, and some of the other interior chrome. The clock still worked (20 years ago), as did the AM/FM Town & Country radio. All the glass is in good shape too, no cracks. All dash, warning, interior and exterior lights work. All exterior chrome trim pieces and emblems are there. The bumpers and door handles could use rechroming, but are in good shape otherwise. The right side windshield chrome trim is damaged, and a replacement trim piece is included. The front fender quarter panel peak crown trim pieces have screws holding them on in front. I am also including 2 replacement crown trim pieces. The front grille and headlight bezels are undamaged, as are the rear tail lights. A new exhaust system (pipes and mufflers) was put on in 1990, as were new Michelin radial tires, brake pads, shoes and wheel cylinders, shocks and tie rods. The carburator was also replaced then, belts and hoses, and the water pump was too. There is lots of tread left on the tires, but they are almost 24 years old, so would recommend only using the tires to transport the car. |

Ford's China sales keep falling, down 30% in third quarter
Fri, Oct 11 2019BEIJING — Ford's July-to-September vehicle sales in China fell 30%, as the U.S. automaker continued to lose ground in a prolonged sales decline in its second biggest market. The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker delivered 131,060 vehicles in China in the third quarter, Ford said in a statement. Ford's sales in China fell 35.8% in the first quarter and by 21.7% in the second quarter. In the third quarter, sales of the automaker's mass-market Ford brand fell 37.7%, while its luxury division Lincoln saw sales drop by 24.1%. It delivered around 421,000 vehicles in the first nine months of the year, according to Reuters calculations. Ford has been struggling to revive sales in China after its business began slumping in late 2017. Sales sank 37 percent in 2018, after a 6 percent decline in 2017. The automaker plans to launch more than 30 new models in China over the next three years, of which more than a third will be electric vehicles. It also said it would localize management teams by hiring more Chinese staff and aimed to improve relationships with joint venture partners. Ford has launched a series of new models in the third quarter in China, including Focus, Edge, and the electric Territory. In China, Ford makes cars through its joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co and Jiangling Motors. It has said it would partner with Zotye Automobile Co to sell lower-priced cars, but there seems to have been little progress. In a series of moves, Ford named a new president for its main local venture, Changan Ford, in August and said it would enhance its partnership with Changan through research, production and marketing cooperation in September. Ford is also planning to revamp some of its existing manufacturing facilities with Changan to localize production of its premium brand Lincoln. Changan Ford's sales down by around 33.5% in the third quarter, according to Reuters calculations based on Changan's filings. Ford rival General Motors' July-to-September vehicle sales in China fell 17.5%, to 689,531 vehicles. As GM and Ford China sales extend declines, U.S. car companies' market share of total China passenger vehicle sales fell to 9.5% in the first eight months of this year, from 10.7% in the year-ago period, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Over the same period, German carmakers' share has risen to 23.8% from 21.6%, and Japanese automakers' share rose to 21.7% from 18.3%.
Lincoln MKC crossover adopts the Continental's grille
Thu, Jun 15 2017The last vestiges of the controversial split Lincoln grille are slowly being removed as the company revamps its lineup. It started with the MKZ and Continental, with the most recent rhinoplasty recipient being the Navigator. Now, based on spy shots, it looks like the MKC crossover will be the fourth to get the new corporate grille. Under the heavy vinyl coverings, we can clearly see the proud Continental-inspired grille. We can also see that it will feature the same chrome mesh with Lincoln badge-shaped openings found on other cars with the grille design. We can also assume that the headlights will receive a substantial refresh, but the lower bumper doesn't look particularly different. The rest of this prototype MKC looks the same as the existing model. The back is covered, which indicates that the taillights may be updated. We wouldn't expect a radically different look, since the MKC already has a full-width taillight treatment. We also noticed that the wheels appear to be inspired by the cool turbine wheels of the Navigator. Whatever the other changes are, we'll probably see them soon. This is clearly just a refresh, and so there's a good chance we'll see the production model revealed by the end of the year, or early next year at the latest. Related Video:
Lincoln Continental death looms with changes at Flat Rock Plant
Tue, Aug 20 2019Ford's Flat Rock Assembly plant just south of Detroit produces the Ford Mustang and the Lincoln Continental. Automotive News reports that the automaker plans to produce two battery-electric crossovers at the facility, the EVs scheduled for sale in the 2023 model year. The EVs were previously meant to be built in Ford's Cuautitlan Stamping and Assembly plant in Mexico, which builds the Fiesta. According to the AN piece, moving the EVs to Michigan means the end of Lincoln Continental production in the U.S. Sunset is expected in "late 2021" for a sedan that is just three years old, and that never got the momentum to assert itself and reassert the Continental nameplate. The Continental has been on death watch since at least March 2018, when Ford Authority reported that the luxury sedan wouldn't get more than one generation. The changing of several guards in the top ranks scotched a plan to move the Continental onto the CD6 platform for rear- and all-wheel-drive vehicles. In September 2018, Jalopnik put more meat on those crossbones, saying Flat Rock workers alleged the big Lincoln could bid adieu as soon as this year, and automaker insiders had seen production merely scheduled — not approved — for 2020, with nothing beyond that. Then, as now, Ford appears to be leaving open the possibility for Continental production to continue in China, and just maybe be exported here. The two twinned midsized EVs, using the codenames CDX746 and CDX747, would come in Ford and Lincoln flavors. Said to be roughly the size of the Ford Edge/Lincoln Nautilus platform siblings, the automaker has requested suppliers gear up for annual production of up to 65,000 units between the two models. When they arrive, they'll form part of the 16 EVs Ford plans to have on the market worldwide by 2022. The others we know of so far are the crossover that will channel the Mustang, an electric F-150 pickup, and an EV project with Rivian.
