1966 Lincoln Continental, Calif Car, Low Miles, Nice Shape on 2040-cars

This is a very nice, nearly, rust free, stock (except for the wheels) car. It starts right up and runs strong. It is not a "show" car at the moment, but with some TLC it could be; more so if it were a convertible. :) The transmission shifts fine but does have a leak. The pan is fine but the front seal is the culprit. I had it looked at and that was the consensus. There is a manifold exhaust leak that quiets down after the motor warms up. The differential is quiet and tight. <P> The interior is Midnight Blue, leather. The front bench seat (power and working) has numerous cracks in the seat, bench and back, but they aren't cracked thru to the padding. The rear leather is fine. The carpets show wear but minimal for the cars age. It's a low mileage car (55244) and would account for the lack of wear. The headliner is up and tight with a small tear (2-3 in) towards the rear passenger side. The door cards are fine. The power windows need a little help. The fronts go up and down nicely. The rears, not so much. The motors run but the glass does not move. I have purchased two rebuild kits for them but haven't gotten around to installing the parts. The power window switches will need attention too. The previous owner, out of ignorance, removed some of the stock switches and replaced them with toggle switches. Rebuilt units/switches are available from specialty vendors on the internet. The "ribbon" speedo works fine (rare I'm told) and the in-dash AM radio works ok too. The in-dash 8-Track player runs when a tape is inserted but the tape does not advance. The previous owner had an AM/FM CD radio mounted, nicely, on the tranny tunnel, and added speakers in the kick panels, in front of the "A" pillar. Again, nicely, not a hack job. <P> The rims and tires were installed by the PO, and must have cost a bunch. The rims are "Limited", and about 10" wide, 22" in diameter. The tires are Nexen, 255/30 R22 The car was driven very little and any tread wear would be considered minimal. They do look weird, but at the same time sort of shorten the look of the car. They do not help in the handling of the car. It's not dangerous on the road in the least. I had the lower ball joints replaced a few months ago (pricey) and that settled it down considerably. The stock rims and tires were disposed of by the PO and are no longer with the car. If you buy this you could replace them with stock and perhaps recoup some $$$. Doubtful though....<P> The body and paint are quite nice. Yes, there are dings here and there and to be "right", a re-spray. For now it's a 20 footer, maybe a 10. The bumper and chrome are way better than average but not perfect. I took it to a show last year and it drew quite a few people who didn't even remark on the body/paint stuff. While I was leaving the show the brakes failed on a hill. "!!!" Needless to say it has a new factory master cylinder now. All the brakes were replaced 2 years ago. Stuff happens.... :) And when taking photos today I found a patch of small bubbly rust down on the sill between the driver side rear door frame and the leading edge of the rear wheel well. An easy fix.<P> It's a great car to drive, rides like a cloud (newer shocks), and draws waves, smiles, shouts and so on. Nice rumbly dual exhaust, recently redone. On the dash...some function lamps are shot, and the heat and air controls need attention. The gas gage does not work but shouldn't be hard to resolve. The car does have FACTORY A/C but, of course, it's not blowing cold. In '66 A/C was the only option for the car as far as I know. So...it's plumbed! In the central California Valley (where it's been it's entire life) no a/c would be criminal. ;) The steering wheel is cracked in 2 places. The trunk is large enough to house most of the Munchkins from The Wizard Of Oz. It almost echoes in there. lol <P> I have sold a few cars on Ebay over the years (3 I think) so I know what's entailed in transporting a vehicle, the paperwork, and $$$ transfer. I'm by no means a "professional". I try to be as exact in my descriptions as can be expected. I don't appreciate surprises and wouldn't expect you to either. I will post answers to questions for all to see and you can check out my 100% Feedback since 2000 when I began messing around here. <P> The automatic door locks do not function. One more thing..... The car went into storage for a time and was auctioned off, the PO being the buyer. He has no idea about the history of the car, but from what I can see it hasn't been molested or mis-treated. A few indicators came with the car, in the trunk. It appears the car was sold new in Elk Grove, CA, spent time in the Chico, CA area, possibly where it went into storage. <P> The car is sold AS IS without a warranty of any kind. BMW reclaims US luxury sales crown from Mercedes
Tue, Jan 6 2015The numbers, they are in: BMW has reclaimed the luxury-sales crown from Mercedes by a margin of 9,347 cars. Mercedes donned the king's headgear in 2013 after a strong final quarter of 2013 when the new CLA and S-Class poured out of dealerships. This year, led by the 3 Series/4 Series and X5, BMW sold 339,738 units – a 9.8-percent increase year-on-year. Mercedes, led by the C-Class and M-Class, saw its sales go up by 5.7 percent to 330,391 units. We'll have to wait a bit to see if there's another registrations-vs-sales challenge as in 2012, when BMW was anointed US luxury ruler. Behind them, a dark horse named Lexus nudged closer to the leading Teutons, selling 311,389 cars. The Japanese luxury automaker also had the biggest gain among the top three, its sales rising by 13.7 percent compared to 2013. Audi had the biggest sales of anyone among the top five, though, with a 15.2-percent gain to 182,011, which moved it a spot ahead of Cadillac; the Wreath-and-Crest brand dropped 6.5 percent to 170,750. Acura (167,843), Infiniti (117,300), and Lincoln (94,474) took the final positions. Speaking of Lincoln, sales at the once-mighty luxury marque stand as the mightiest jump of any on this list, up 15.6 percent. That's the power of Matthew McConaughey... and better cars and a new crossover, sure. So now that we're back to Round One of 2015, in case no one else has said it yet: "Ok, fight!"
Lincoln MKC Concept shows real promise [w/video]
Sun, 13 Jan 2013Ford's efforts to resuscitate its moribund Lincoln luxury brand began in earnest with the introduction of its 2014 MKZ sedan, a model many labeled as the marque's make-or-break offering. Of course, one model does not a comeback make, and with the MKZ just now starting to trickle into dealers, it will be some time before America's jury of consumers comes in with their judgment. More to the point, it's likely to take better than a decade's worth of products and sustained marketing effort to even begin to figure out whether Lincoln has a shot at redemption or if it will die of Mercury poisoning. After all, rival General Motors has been pouring resources into Cadillac since the late '90s, and if the sales charts are any guidance, it's still probably too early to declare its rebirth a success.
Certainly, a brand with Ford's resources, free of distractions (read: the now-defunct Premier Auto Group and various other side projects) should be able to successfully market a single luxury brand, particularly one with such a rich - if distant - history. Especially now with the Blue Oval enjoying more consumer goodwill than at any time in recent history. So let's all give Alan Mulally and friends a little room to work, eh?

Woman keying luxury car caught on tape
Thu, Nov 12 2015Toronto police are on the hunt for a disguised woman who was caught on camera Sunday keying a car. The woman sported a red bandana over her face and baseball cap as she ran up to the Lincoln MKS in a driveway, the Toronto Star reported. She then went to town with a sharp object, gleefully scratching the car's paint job. She runs off after nearly a minute of enthusiastic damage. Police believe the victim and the vandal know each other, since the Lincoln is the only car in the neighborhood she hit. This is also the third time this particular car has been damaged. They suspect this woman is responsible for the previous incidents. Toronto police told the Star that it will likely cost Lincoln owner thousands to have his car repaired. Security cameras are great for catching vandals in the act, though the videos are difficult for any car enthusiast to watch.
