Waiting in a garage for perhaps 20 years, my good friend and I brought this beautiful vehicle back to life in the early 2000s and it's been with me since. If I recall correctly, it was originally purchased by a doctor residing in Pennsylvania.
For several years I drove the car regularly, including many 300 mile round trips. Alas, it is now time for me to sell because I have moved nearer to the city, where a $100/month garage is not exactly in my budget... Mechanically, the car is sound and drivable. Just know that it is not currently inspected and I would recommend a tow to its new home. So much of this car was restored or repaired by me and my friends -- too much to recall and/or list. Some notable overhauls include complete brakes, fuel (including tank), and exhaust (including manifolds). Admittedly, the car needs some minor body work and surely deserves new paint. What you don't see in the daytime photos is some wheel well rust which should be corrected before painting the vehicle. Furthermore, the front seats should be reupholstered, although they are not torn. Although totally drivable, a tuneup and carb rebuild are in order. As it stands, I last rebuilt the carb in a hurry and without a working accelerator pump due to a parts order screwup. This kind of thing can be fixed in a day or less with the right parts. The motor is the MEL 430 V8 (7.0L) aka torque monster. The gear selection lever actually gives the driver the ability to start off in second gear! Speaking of the trans, it always shifts very well, provided you use the correct fluid. I did install a trans cooler which certainly helps in the hot weather. Here's a short video of the 430 purring along: http://youtu.be/qE0gqS3ZBbg There are quite a few gadgets on this car, and most of them work. Namely, some things which do not work (to the extent I can remember) are the four main windows (the small ones work fine and the main ones just stopped working) and the AC (I cut the belt long ago, although the clutch did engage on demand per the AC console lever). Naturally, the stock radio is nonworking albeit present, though the car is set up for a standard DIN: the custom cage is inconspicuous and the wiring is mostly present. The car is a driver, but is also a fantastic restoration candidate. I'm hoping it lands in a good home. The title is clear and in-hand. Feel free to contact me any time. Thanks for looking! |

Surprise! More Ford and Lincoln cars found with marijuana
Thu, Jul 27 2017Ford is starting to have a serious problem on its hands. Today, ABC 7 in Detroit reported that another batch of Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ cars were found packed with 227 pounds of marijuana. This is a little over a week after Fords in Ohio were found stuffed with marijuana and only about two months after Fords in Minnesota were found full of weed. All of the cars traveled on train from Mexico to their destination. All in, several thousand pounds and several million dollars worth of marijuana has been discovered. According to the report, Immigration and Customs Enforcement found the cars at the Ford Rail Distribution Facility in Woodhaven, Michigan, just south of Ford's world headquarters in Dearborn. ICE became involved after a Ford employee reported the cars to Woodhaven police. It's unclear when and where the cars were packed with marijuana. With the cars in Minnesota, it's believed that the weed was added after leaving the factory but before being loaded on the train. Spare tires were removed and the space was used to smuggle the marijuana. Related Video:
2016 Lincoln MKX spied in production form
Wed, Dec 17 2014We're getting our first quality look at the next-generation Lincoln MKX in production guise thanks to these fresh spy shots, and they suggest styling that hews very closely to the concept from earlier this year. Compared to the showcar, the headlights aren't quite as well integrated into the grille, but these LED units still attempt to nicely wrap the split-wing grille across the entire face of the vehicle. Beyond that, the two vehicles quite similar, though. The shape of the lower air dam is practically identical – just with some extra plastic for the production version. The hint of a character line running down the side also makes the resemblance easy to spot, despite this tester's polka-dot camouflage. At the rear, the taillights stretch across the hatch with integrated exhaust outlets below. Even the twin-spoke wheels are comparable to the concept. Also, look carefully at these spy shots, and you can notice Lincoln apparently testing two different trims. One has LED headlights with front and rear parking sensors (pictured above), and the other shows projector lights with the sensors only at the rear. The next-gen MKX will launch in 2015 and will be the first model in Lincoln's lineup to benefit from the deal with Harman to use its high-end Revel audio system. GM design boss Welburn says Lincoln isn't a Cadillac rival [w/poll]
Thu, 05 Dec 2013General Motors Vice President of Global Design, Ed Welburn, had some dismissive words for a certain cross-town luxury brand during an interview with Car and Driver. When asked about his thoughts on Lincoln, Welburn deflected, before saying, "I don't consider Lincoln to be a competitor for Cadillac."
"They're not a global luxury brand. I don't consider them a competitor. Are they a competitor for Buick? Quite possibly. But not for Cadillac," GM's head designer explained. Welburn, who's been at the helm of GM Design North America since 2003 and is the first to hold the position of VP of Global Design, has been instrumental in the styling renaissance at GM, so predictably, Car and Driver's interview with him focused on the design aspect of cars.
During the interview, Welburn explicitly denied plans for a reborn Cadillac XLR, even as a new Chevrolet Corvette is hitting the market and strides are being made with Cadillac's V-Series performance arm saying, "We have a lot of cars that we're working on for the Cadillac brand. The XLR is not one of them right now."
