The vehicle has ~68,000 original miles on it. That is true original mileage, and the odometer has not rolled over 100k. I purchased the car about 3 years ago. I acquired it from a man who got it at an estate sale in Arizona. Prior to that, it was a one owner vehicle. I've put less than 100 miles on it since purchasing. To my knowledge, it was driven from '64-'72; where it was then placed in a climate controlled garage after the owner passed away until it was sold. The car's condition reflects it. Since purchasing it, I've spent over $5k in repairs; new carb, new fuel pump, and a few other things I can list. As is, the car has a leak in the power steering pump which needs to be fixed. This just happened recently. There is also a shift linkage issue (which is fairly common as I understand with this model) which causes the shifter to wiggle a little bit when putting it into park/neutral. It's not a major issue, but want to disclose it. The 2 rear windows do not go down. Either they need the motors replaced which can be purchased for about $100, or they may just be stuck due to built up grease on them; the door panels would need to be removed to further diagnose which I have not done yet. Also at some point the muffler on the car was modified to a single pipe; unlike the common dual muffler common on these cars. The AC blows, but not very cold so if you want AC it would need a new compressor. The car still has it's original paint and has not been resprayed. The paint is not perfect, but still relatively in tact. I have a pint of matching factory paint I'll include. Cosmetically, there is a ding on the driver's side front fender which you can see in the picture and another small dent on the rear passenger door. There are some rust spots which have started to show along some seams on the exterior, but undercarriage is in decent condition. All of the chrome is overall in great condition however (which is one of the most costly parts in restoring these). There is little to no oxidation on any of the chrome trim pieces inside or outside. There is a ~2cm ding on the chrome trim piece that goes above the windshield. I purchased a new piece I did not install yet and will include with the sale as well. The interior is is pretty good condition as well. The leather is worn where your butt and back go on all seats, but the rears of the seats, tops, center and other parts are in excellent condition and look almost new. The perforated leather roof is in perfect condition and carpet is in decent condition as well. The seats would not need to be fully re-upholstered and just need the patches where it's worn replaced. I am open to having that done prior to selling it which I can discuss further with interested buyers. I have original 1964 New York (World's Fair) plate I will include which can be used on the vehicle if registered as a historic car in NY. I also have the 1964 NYS inspection sticker for the windshield I'll include. There are no owners manuals and one set of keys (for doors/trunk and ignition). This is not a show car, but not a complete junker/restoration project either. Much better condition than most of the Knowing the types of buyers this will attract I've tried to disclose as much as possible but will be happy to address any further questions. For someone looking for one of these, this is an excellent car that can be brought back up to excellent condition with a little work. I simply do not have the time for it anymore which is why I am selling. You'll be hard to find a car like this in original condition for this price. With what I paid and the work I've put in, I'm taking a loss financially- I hope the next owner will enjoy it as much as I have. Car is located in Upstate, NY. 2018 L.A. Auto Show: 5-plus takeaways on Jeep, Honda, Porsche and more
Thu, Nov 29 2018The 2018 L.A. Auto Show is making a strong case that auto shows aren't dead. Carmakers are ladling out sports cars and SUVs featuring serious style and performance in Los Angeles, and it's a feast for the senses. We're talking the new Porsche 911, the long-awaited Jeep Gladiator and the stylish Mazda3. It's the best car show with the most important reveals since the 2018 Detroit Auto Show kicked off the year. Here are some quick reactions: The 2019 Jeep Gladiator is a rock star When the story went live on Autoblog, our traffic went straight up. I've literally never seen the graph go straight up. So yeah, you guys seem to like it. I do, too. It's everything I want in a vehicle, including enough of a retro feel that it satisfies my cravings for an old Cherokee XJ. It's more capable and likely more expensive than I originally anticipated, but Jeep is going to have to expand its Toledo factory to keep up with demand. Don't be fooled by whatever the politicians say when that happens. It's because people like Jeeps and pickups, and this is the hero sandwich of all of that. I'd likely go with the 3.6-liter and a manual transmission if I were buying a Gladiator, but the diesel is compelling, too. Gladiator is a great name, drenched in history. I like it better than Scrambler, which never felt right to me. Only issue: It's a little over-the-top. Imagine this conversation: "So, ready to go to Panera?" "Sure, let's take the Gladiator." I mean, it's a bit much to refer to your personal vehicle as the Gladiator. Unless Russell Crowe is driving it. Then it's fine. The 2020 Porsche 911 is conservatively brilliant Every time I drive a 718 Cayman, Jaguar F-Type or another 911 challenger, I wonder if the 911 may be over the hill. It's not. And it likely never will be. This latest generation, dubbed 992 in Porsche-speak, stayed the course. The back takes some Mission E stylings that give the 911 a more modern feel. The flat six gets a little more power. The digital-heavy interior looks futuristic and slick. But overall, it's a blocking-and-tackling update that should satisfy the purists and maybe draw in a few new Porsche fans. It's the right time for the 2019 Honda Passport This slots between the Honda CR-V and the Honda Pilot. That's serious segmentation, but it's another crossover, and it's undoubtedly what the people want.
Lincoln MKC recalled because start button located too close to touchscreen [UPDATE]
Wed, Dec 31 2014UPDATE: Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker responded to our questions and let us know that the fix for the push-button start on the 2015 MKC has the switch moved to the top of the of the column of gear shift buttons instead of the bottom. Owners should be notified about both campaigns "toward the end of February." After massive campaigns from General Motors and to fix Takata airbag inflators, 2014 will undoubtedly go down as The Year Of The Recall. And with little time to spare, Ford is getting in just under the wire to adding two more to its yearly total. The larger of the campaigns is actually one of the most bizarre campaigns we've heard of all year. Lincoln is recalling 13,574 units of its 2015 MKC compact crossover in North America to move the location of the push-button ignition switch on the dashboard. According to the automaker's announcement: "Due to the switch's close proximity to other controls, occupants are inadvertently shutting off the engine while driving." The button is located near the bottom of the touchscreen, which can apparently make it possible to hit by mistake. Back when Autoblog first drove the new MKC in June, we came away very impressed, but noted: "... we're still not completely sold on the aforementioned pushbutton transmission selector ... it still seems somewhat gimmicky and it can't be operated by feel alone, as you might when shifting a traditional console-mounted lever from Park to Drive." According to Lincoln, there have been no reported accidents or injuries stemming from this button misapplication. Of the affected vehicles, there are 11,144 in the US, 2,033 in Canada and 397 in Mexico. To fix the problem, dealers are moving the button to a different location and reprogramming the powertrain control module. According to Automotive News, models built since September already have a different layout. The change was reportedly done to match the rest of the Lincoln lineup. The second recall covers 12,205 units of the 2014 Ford Escape (2015 model year pictured below) and 2015 Lincoln MKC in North America because of a problem with nickel plating on the fuel pump. The issue can cause the pump to seize, which can cause the crossovers not to start or stall while driving. The automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this fault. Dealers are replacing the fuel deliver module to fix the situation. Of the affected vehicles, there are 9,038 in the US, 3,074 in Canada and 93 in Mexico.
Ford recalls 2017 Lincoln Continental for headlight problem
Tue, Oct 11 2016Ford Motor Co. is already recalling the 2017 Lincoln Continental for a headlight problem, the automaker announced Tuesday. The HID headlights may have been assembled with LED lens that don't have the correct lens optics to meet federal visibility requirements for turn signals. Ford says it is unaware of any accidents related to the issue. The company will replace the headlamp assemblies, if needed. The safety compliance recall covers 1,876 Continentals built from June 14 to Sept. 23 at Ford's Flat Rock factory south of Detroit. Most of the cars are in the United States; 49 are in Canada, and one is in a federalized territory. Only about 300 cars are in consumers' hands, a spokesperson said. Customers can use a Lincoln service program where dealers will pick up their Continental, fix it for free, and return it, the spokesperson said. Lincoln has high hopes for the Continental. The flagship sedan uses one of Lincoln's most iconic names and features a luxurious interior, available 400-horsepower V6 engine, and safety features like adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera. Lincoln recently announced an elaborate marketing campaign shot by renown photographer Annie Leibovitz to generate interest in the Continental. In a separate recall, Ford also said Tuesday that 60 Edges from the 2015-16 model year are being recalled to update their antilock braking system module.
