1964 Lincoln Continental Convertible on 2040-cars
Glendale, California, United States
This old hot rod is in need of some love for sure. It's either going to make a really good parts car, or a sweet custom restoration. I've had this car for over 15 years and have been plagued with the same problem all along, I live in the city and I have no place to park it. I haven't driven the car in about 7 years other than to move it. I do start it from time to time. It's time to let the old gal go. So here's all that's both wrong and right with it no B.S. I'm happy to take any extra pics you would like and send them along. The good: Hubs and brakes: First off the brake hubs, which are pretty much impossible to find. The two on the front are both re-casts from Lincoln Parts International. Unless they have done another batch I got the last two. They have very few miles on them. The hubs for the back are also in very good shape. They are currently not installed. The break hydraulics have been replaced. I have two sets of new unused pads. Transmission completely rebuilt by Aamco (yes I know I was an idiot to do that). Replaced the steering box. (Rebuilt unit from Lincoln Parts Int.) I had a low rider sub frame put in the car (of course not for the purpose of making it jump). Even though the base of the car needs metal work you can open all four doors and jump all over it. For a unibody convertible of this era, it's totally rigid. Two of the window motors are rebuilt, not installed. All the glass is good. The not so good: There is a dent in the drivers side door, but nothing that can't be popped out from the inside. Interior is a complete redo. Although it's pretty much all there mechanically, the automatic roof is not working and there is no vinyl top. The floors, trunk and wheel wells need metal work. Rear right exhaust pipe (after the muffler) needs to be replaced. There is some bubbling and chipping on the paint job. Window switches need replacing. Power steering pump is leaking and needs rebuilding. Fuel gauge doesn't work. Speedo doesn't work. General Stuff: Car has about 110,000 miles on it and runs fine. |

Ford recalls 83k Taurus and crossover models for halfshaft issue
Fri, 15 Aug 2014Ford and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall for some 83,250 vehicles in the US, for an issue with halfshafts. More specifically a "halfshaft retention circlip" might not have been properly installed on affected vehicles, with the result being halfshafts that may move improperly or disengage completely from the linkshaft while driving. The NHTSA release also notes that the issue may occur "without prior warning" which obviously factors in to the timeliness of getting this checked.
Should the halfshaft disengage, a few troubling things could happen. If it occurs while driving, power from the engine will no longer be transmitted to the wheels. And, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied after disengagement of the circlip, vehicles may roll away even if they're transmissions have been placed in "Park."
Affected vehicles are as follows: Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers from model years 2012 to 2014; Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS sedans from model years 2013 to 2014; Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles from model years 2013 to 2014.
Lincoln to adopt Mini-like personalization strategy?
Fri, 18 Jan 2013There's no single silver bullet that will cure all that ails the Lincoln brand, and Ford knows that just as surely as we do. Coming out with exciting new models like the well-received MKC crossover counts as several steps in the right direction, assuming of course that the production version is as appealing as the concept just shown at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, but more is needed. According to Jim Farley, executive vice president of Lincoln, one more trick may be "mass customization."
Put another way, Lincoln is considering ways to allow buyers to customize their new vehicles right off the showroom floor, similar to how things are done at Mini, and, to a lesser extent, Scion, where Farley previously served as corporate manager. Imagine, for instance, ordering a new MKC with a large Lincoln insignia embossed into the leather seatbacks, according to Automotive News.
While we're not so sure anybody is all that interested in paying extra for more Lincoln logos, it's a strategy that has proven rather fruitful at Mini. Only time will tell if Ford's erstwhile luxury division will once again be seen as something truly worth reaching for, and if customers are willing to pay a further premium for customization.
Lincoln MKC prototype spied out testing
Wed, 20 Mar 2013As was the case with the Lincoln MKZ, it appears that Lincoln isn't wasting any time getting its newest model transformed from concept to production form. We just saw the MKC Concept earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show, and based on these spy shots, it looks like the final touches are being put in place for the 2014 Lincoln MKC crossover.
Sharing its platform with the Ford Escape, we can definitely see some similarities between these two compact crossovers when it comes to the roofline and daylight opening, but through the heavy camouflage, Lincoln's signature split-wing grille can easily be seen and it looks like the concept's taillights will also make it to reality. On the disappointing side, it looks like the integrated exhaust outlets are being ditched for some round outlets, and we can't tell if the production version will keep the Audi-like clamshell rear liftgate.
