1959 Lincoln Continental Mk Iv on 2040-cars
Ogden, Utah, United States
I've known of this car since the previous owner drove it home in 2008. I worked for this family as a carpenter off and on the whole time they owned it. I know for a fact this car sat majority of the time the previous owner had it. They maybe drove it 250 miles in the four years they owned it. The owner at the time unfortunately suffered a stroke shortly after buying it. Two owners before me passed on the following information about the car. It was brought to Iowa from California in 1971, it was parked in a garage and stored for 27 years, the 430 engine was overhauled and rebuild in 1998 from sitting for so long, the body was repainted in 1998, and it was only driven 700 miles from 71' to 98'. The odometer currently reads 15,135 miles. Based of the information provided by previous owners I believe this to be the original miles of the car. There is very little wear and tear on the brake and gas peddle and also the driver seat definitely doesn't look like someone has sat there for over 100k. Also, the nature of this car isn't intended for really long distance and or a lot of travel. The body is very straight and appears to have never been in any sort of serious accident. There is no serous pitting rust on the car. The only rust is surface rust that has started where the paint is chipped or scratched. This car is perfect for someone looking to do a restoration project on a rare and hard to find car. It has the factory 430 engine (350 hp). It has a three speed turbo-drive automatic transmission. This car is loaded with all sorts cool ultra high luxury items that where the top of the line in its day. The 58'-60' continental is the largest unit-construction car ever built. There were only 1409 of these cars produced in 59'. As you can see in the condition description I've done some of the initial steps for a restoration project to get the car driving and stopping, which it does very well. The engine sound strong and runs very well. The trans shifted through all gears and seems to shift smoothly. This car apparently has the high performance brake booster that I recently had rebuilt by the manufacture. I've only driven the car three miles since I had all the work done. I purchased this car with intentions of selling it from the start to help me out with other projects I have going on. Its pictured with a spare tire on the front passenger side but, that has been replaces with a matching tire allowing the car to be in it's proper stance. I hope this car can go to someone who will bring it to its full potential. All transportation logistics will be up the buyer to arrange.
On Feb-04-14 at 20:07:56 PST, seller added the following information: There is a piece on the steering wheel that is an extension of the horn that was broken off at some point. I have the part that broke off. Some of the power windows work and some don't. The same could be said for the power locks. Could use some wiring work as mentioned earlier. The hood opens and closes but, doesn't close the easiest. Could use some minor adjusting to get it to close better. Feel free to email with any questions. Thanks |

Lincoln poised to double MKZ Hybrid production
Thu, 18 Jul 2013The Lincoln MKZ Hybrid has been something of a hit for Ford since the beginning, exceeding the company's modest projected 15-percent take rate for more than two years (we say "modest" because that still means an overwhelming majority of Lincoln customers are passing up on the gas-electric powertrain even though it costs the same as the standard model). Either way, Lincoln builds 700 MKZ Hybrids at its plant in Mexico each month, but has sold 715 of them in each of the past three months. That's why, according to a report in The Detroit News, when the restyled 2014 MKZ Hybrid arrives (non-hybrid pictured), Ford is doubling production compared to 2013. Instead of the hybrid model being 20 percent of production, the new hybrid will make up 40 percent.
Ford is doing well with hybrids in general - its portion of the electrified vehicle segment jumping 12 points in a single year to 16 percent. Assuming Ford doesn't change the pricing strategy (along with the changes Ford is making to calibration to improve fuel economy), the sedan could continue to "[show] other luxury hybrids how it's done" when it goes on sale later this year.
2016 Lincoln MKX gets 330-hp EcoBoost V6, new auto braking system
Tue, Jan 13 2015Lincoln has been treading water with the MKX. The crossover's sales were flat in 2014, and its appearance and mechanicals have been largely unchanged since its last redesign in 2011. That changes this fall, when the redesigned 2016 MKX goes on sale in the United States with a more powerful EcoBoost engine, an upgraded cabin and a host of new comfort and safety features designed to make the crossover more competitive and increase its sales. The MKX debuts Tuesday at the Detroit Auto Show, though pictures leaked last weekend. The new vehicle has at least 36 new features compared with the outgoing model, and perhaps the most significant is the addition of the optional twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, which is expected to make more than 330 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. That's a major jump from the naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V6, which is the only engine option available on the current vehicle. It continues as the standard engine for the 2016 model and is rated at 300 hp and 280 lb-ft. The engines are paired with six-speed automatic transmissions. Front wheel-drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is an option. Lincoln engineers focused on improving the driving character of the new MKX. The chassis is revised, and the rear suspension uses an integral link setup. It's also the first Lincoln to get adaptive steering. The body structure is updated and designed to keep more outside noise from the cabin. "Quietness is luxury," chief engineer Elaine Bannon said. The MKX was also redesigned with a focus on safety. The MKX is among the first Ford Motor Co. vehicles to get a new feature, called pre-collision assist. The technology will warn the driver if it senses a crash is imminent and apply the brakes. The technology is also launching this year on the European version of the Ford Fusion, the Mondeo. Additionally, the MKX gets a 360-degree camera that aids with parking. The camera is mounted behind the Lincoln star badge in the middle of the split-wing grille. It extends to offer a view of up to seven feet around the perimeter of the crossover. Lincoln also added an auto hold feature, which keeps the vehicle from moving when it is sitting in traffic. Lincoln underscored the MKX's new safety and technology with a more dramatic design for 2016. It has a swoopy appearance with fender flares similar to those on the MKC, and it's curvier and more creased than the outgoing MKX.
Ford recalls over 953,000 vehicles to replace Takata airbag inflators
Fri, Jan 4 2019DETROIT — Ford is recalling more than 953,000 vehicles worldwide to replace Takata passenger airbag inflators that can explode and hurl shrapnel. The move includes over 782,000 vehicles in the U.S. and is part of the largest series of recalls in U.S. history. Included are the 2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, the 2010 and 2011 Ford Ranger, the 2010 to 2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, the 2010 and 2011 Mercury Milan, and the 2010 to 2014 Ford Mustang. Some of the recalls may be limited to specific geographic areas of the U.S. Takata used the chemical ammonium nitrate to create an explosion to inflate airbags. But it can deteriorate over time due to heat and humidity and explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister designed to contain the explosion. At least 23 people have been killed worldwide and hundreds injured by the inflators. Ford says it doesn't know of any injuries in vehicles included in this recall. Dealers will replace the inflators. Ford will notify owners about the recall starting on Feb. 18, and the company has replacement parts available for dealers to order, said spokeswoman Monique Brentley. In previous Takata recalls, parts availability had been an issue. Owners can go to this Ford website and key in their vehicle identification number to see if their cars and SUVs are being recalled. The same information will be available soon at the NHTSA recall website. More than three years after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration took over management of recalls involving Takata inflators, one third of the recalled inflators still have not been replaced, according to an annual report from the government and a court-appointed monitor. The report says 16.7 million faulty inflators out of 50 million under recall have yet to be replaced. And 10 million more inflators are scheduled to be recalled this month, including the Ford vehicles. Safety advocates said the completion rate should be far higher given the danger associated with the inflators. The recalls forced Takata of Japan to seek bankruptcy protection and sell most of its assets to pay for the fixes. The inflators grow more dangerous as they get older because ammonium nitrate deteriorates due to high humidity and cycles from hot temperatures to cold. The most dangerous inflators are in areas of the South along the Gulf of Mexico that have high humidity. Related Video:
