1948 Lincoln Continental Coupe, Senior Ccca Winner, 37,500miles, Show And Driver on 2040-cars

Year:1948 Mileage:37500
Location:

Sun City West, Arizona, United States

Sun City West, Arizona, United States

Offered for sale is my 1948 Lincoln Continental coupe with 37,500 original miles.  The original owner drove the car for 13 years and 27,400 miles, and it was then owned by a sequence 5 car collectors who drove it for another 10,000 miles.  During this period the car continued to be maintained , repaired and upgraded as necessary to offset the aging process.

The fifth owner did the majority of the restoring as necessary including  replacement of any worn parts as well as re-chrome and repaint.  The sheet metal and paint are stunning.  The upholstery is original and very presentable but not perfect.  During this period the car was upgraded to a level that it earned many show awards including First Place CCCA Senior Badge, and Lincoln Continental Club Major National Award Winner.  I entered the car in the 2014 Arizona Concours d Elegance and it was awarded a third place.  As the sixth owner I have continued to make minor upgrades and and mainteinance as found necessary in driving the car. The factory build sheet indicates this car was assembled on March 20,1948 and the production of all V-12 Lincolns ended on March 23,1948. Since this car was one of the last Continentals produced it might be the last one made that survives.

The transmission and overdrive were overhauled but the only engine work to my knowledge has been head gasket replacement (iron heads).  All of the gages, lights, radio, heater, clock, power windows, and windshield wipers all work properly.  With the overdrive the car has no problem keeping up with freeway traffic.  Tires have very little wear and steering and brakes all work properly, and the engine does not overheat.  The clutch is not as smooth as new but there is no slippage.  The engine compartment and under carriage have both been properly cleaned  painted and detailed.  There are two minor items that a new owner may want to correct:  original side window glass has minor yellowing around the edges and one very small crack on the left door window.

Included with the car are the factory build sheet, repair receipts, many repair manuals, 2012 professional fair market value appraisal of $56,000, and complete history of its 66 years.

Notice to bidders:  Please read all terms and conditions as you are entering into a legally binding contract.  This car is as is where is, there is no warranty either written or implied.  Winning bidder is required to submit $2000.00 deposit  within 48 hours either paypal or money wire.  Balance payment must be within 7 calendar days of auction close by money wire, US dollars only. If payment is not received in 7 days I reserve the right to relist or sell to the next highest or qualified bidder.  Winning bidder pays all shipping charges and is required to arrange for shipping.

Lincoln MKX Concept announces impending launch in China

Sun, 20 Apr 2014

Lincoln has finally dropped the details on the MKX Concept after a few days of teasing. Set for a very important global debut at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, we're going to have to see this conceptualized version of the third-generation MKX in person before we can draw any real conclusions on the effectiveness of its design.
One of the things Lincoln will need to do to succeed is deliver something to customers that's unique to the brand's vehicles, which are exclusively rebadged models from parent company Ford. We're not sure this is going to be distinctive enough.
Unlike its last new vehicle, the Navigator, the work done on the MKX is smooth and refined. The stance of the vehicle, with its 21-inch wheels, is aggressive enough. Viewed from the profile, the overhangs appear rather short, while character lines keep it from looking slabsided. In front, we might be witnessing the cleanest interpretation yet of Lincoln's twin grilles. The headlights are slim and stylish, and we're digging the shape and style of the mirrors, which feature integrated turn signals that outline the mirror cap.

Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating

Mon, Aug 6 2018

Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.

Ford Q3 pretax profits drop to $1.18B

Fri, 24 Oct 2014

Following positive third quarter financial results recently from General Motors, rival Ford took a tumble in Q3. The automaker posted pre-tax profits of $1.18 billion, compared to about $2.59 billion in Q3 2013, a drop of around 54 percent. Net income also suffered with $835 million made in the quarter, versus $1.272 billion last year, a decline of about 34 percent. The Blue Oval blamed the gloomy figures on three reasons in its release: "lower volume, higher warranty costs and adverse balance sheet exchange effects."
There were problems of one kind or another in practically every region. North America experienced higher warranty costs than expected, partially due to recalls. The sales volume for the quarter was 665,000 units, versus 725,000 in Q3 2013, and pre-tax results amounted to $1.41 billion versus $2.296 billion last year.
South America and Europe both posted worse pre-tax results than last year. On the bright side, European volume was up slightly to 321,000 vehicles, from 303,000 in Q3 2013. The Middle East and Africa also lost $15 million, but that was an improvement compared to the $25 million loss previously experienced in this region.
