1947 Lincoln Continental Harry Truman Parade Car - Barn Find - A Big Project Car on 2040-cars
Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States
Harry Truman Parade-Lincoln Company DemoWe purchased this with the intention of bringing it back to life. It was rumored to be President Truman's car for years then it came to auction. BOTH Cadillac and Lincoln gave Truman demos to try out and it has been widely known that he disliked the Cadillacs. I contacted the Ford Museum and had them research the Lincoln where we discovered the car was a demo in Kansas City. I then contacted the Truman Museum in Independence, MO and they had the pics of a car in his 35th Regiment reunion in KC. I have lots of other pics where he used the car all over the place in the USA. While we have documented that he used it, this was never his personal car. We researched files at the Truman museum and The Ford Museum and this car with this VIN# was a company demo used in Kansas City April of 1947. The car was originally tan showing through on all of the pics, painted over black right now. As you can see in the photos, this was the original color. He was seen in this car many times and used THIS car for about a year, gave it back and ordered a fleet of 20 Lincoln Cosmopolitans to my recollection. It was later donated to the Confederate Air Force. It all fits because the owner before us was a P-51 Pilot who lead a very interesting life. It has holes where the Confederate Air Force was riveted to both doors. He always claimed to have the "Truman Parade Car." When his estate came available at auction, I showed up and there she was. All the research and folklore on the car points that this is the car. Any way I am moving and do not have room at my new place. It is about 65% complete. No engine, transmission or seats or trim. IT's pretty solid and a cool car. Needs lots of work and lots of parts. What you see is what you get. Bid Your Best Price Its Getting Sold There is NO title. . Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls
Tue, 04 Nov 2014
Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
Ford is recalling more Takata airbag-equipped Ford and Lincoln models
Thu, Mar 2 2017The Basics: Takata, the beleaguered airbag supplier at the root of the largest recall in automotive history, has informed Ford of a problem with the airbags in just over 30,000 Ford and Lincoln models. The problem is not related to the non-desiccated ammonium nitrate airbag inflators that plague the other airbags ( including many Fords), meaning there isn't a risk of shrapnel flying out from the units in this particular recall. The Problem: In the event of an accident, the front airbags may only partially inflate, and the airbag may become detached from the module because of misaligned parts. The problem affects 2016 and 2017 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX models built at the Oakville Assembly Plant. The issue also affects 2017 Lincoln Continentals that were built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Injuries/Deaths: In a release, Ford stated that it is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or deaths related to the airbag issue. The Fix: Dealers will replace the driver-side front airbag module at no cost. If You Own One: Sit tight and wait for Ford to notify owners. When that happens, take your car to the dealer for a replacement. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. 2020 Lincoln Aviator 450-hp PHEV will get its own exterior visual cues
Fri, Nov 30 2018Lincoln will brand its powerful plug-in version of the new Aviator crossover as a GT hybrid package with a few distinguishing visual cues when it goes on sale next summer. The luxury PHEV crossover will do battle with competitors like the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, Volvo XC90 T8 and BMW's (incredibly long-winded) X5 xDrive45e iPerformance. The "GT" designation harkens to the golden era of grand touring and is meant to convey the combination of high performance and comfort over long distances. "It's really trying to get at how Lincoln is redefining luxury performance," said Brad Jager, the Aviator brand manager. The hybrid system will deliver 450 horsepower and a whopping 600 pound-feet of torque, which are increases of 50 hp and 200 lb-ft over the pure combustion version powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. Lincoln isn't releasing expected electric-only range or fuel economy, and it's keeping most of the details of the hybrid system under wraps for now. It has said you'll also be able to hold the charge to be deployed later, such as for short trips in town. Lincoln is, however, making a few subtle exterior changes to designate the GT hybrid setup, which will be offered in the higher-end GT and Black Label trim models (the entry-level Aviator and Reserve models will be available only in gasoline combustion versions). First are changes to the Lincoln star badge on the grille and Aviator badge on the side flanks, which fill in with a blue color borrowed from the original Lincoln V12 badge from the 1930s and '40s — a neat touch on a vehicle that is reviving a nameplate. The grille itself is also an inversion of the new Lincoln treatment appearing on models like the Navigator and Nautilus. So where the grilles on those models have cutouts, the GT hybrid grille has protruding shapes that dissipate the further away they are from the center badge. Lastly, the PHEV will come with 21-inch wheels instead of the 22-inchers that equip non-hybrid versions. Lincoln says it designed the rear-wheel-drive architecture with the Aviator in mind, allowing the battery to go underneath the passenger-side second-row seats and maximizing interior space. Engineers also fit an electric motor between the V6 engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. Lincoln hasn't announced pricing on the Aviator, which goes on sale next summer, and the plug-in hybrid versions will obviously command a premium.
