1999 Lexus Rx300 Base Sport Utility 4-door 3.0l-project-needs Work on 2040-cars
Waxahachie, Texas, United States
This Lexus was left for me after my Grandfather passed away in September of 2013. My uncle had replaced the engine around 2 years ago with one that has roughly 120,000 miles on it, but the entire SUV has about 240,000 miles on it total. I drove it from Houston back to Waxahachie and it ran great, and only needed minor work (O2 Sensors) A few months ago I was going to trade it for a Harley when the thermostat went out and overheated on me. I'm pretty sure the head gasket needs to be replaced. I was going to do the Blue Steel liquid treatment and get it fixed up, but now I just want to get rid of it to pay off some bills. So here's the run down.
The Good: CLEAN TITLE Brakes were very recently replaced. AWESOME stereo system. Leather Seats A/C Unit was replaced less than 2 years ago. Engine was replaced 2 years ago as well, and has an estimated 120,000 miles on it. If you decide to part it out, it has PLENTY of good parts on it to sell. I have no interest in parting it out. The Not-so-good: Thermostat needs to be replaced. Check engine light is on (for many obvious reasons) As stated in the title, it more than likely needs the head gasket replaced. The O2/Air sensors need to be replaced as well, BUT I will provide them. They're almost $300 new, and I bought them right before it broke down on me. The number six spark plug needs to be replaced (probably from anti-freeze getting into the cylinder when the gasket blew) Needs a new knock sensor. Battery is dead. Radio antenna motor needs to be replaced. Windshield has long crack in it. Paint on front bumper, and headlights is flaking. Before the head gasket blew, I drove it to work from Waxahachie to Las Colinas every day, and made weekend trips to Austin regularly as well. It was a strong running SUV, with lots of room. Kelly Blue Book values it at $3897.00 in it's current condition, but I'd like $2800 for it for quick sale, or best offer. Obviously this is a project, so you would need to get it towed. I previously had one offer for $3300 but the guy can't pick it up until October and I really don't want to wait that long. You could try to do a liquid head gasket treatment and see if that solves the problem and have yourself a nice Lexus for a decent price. Or you could part it out and make even more money off it! I WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY SHIPPING ON THIS VEHICLE. YOU MUST HAVE IT TOWED FROM WAXAHACHIE, TEXAS (30 minutes south of Dallas) THE LEXUS IS BEING SOLD AS-IS. If you have ANY questions, please let me know! |

Toyota Camry, Lexus RX to get aluminum parts
Tue, 23 Sep 2014Ah, aluminum. The lightweight, strong material has long held a following within the premium ranks, but as Ford prepares to launch an aluminum F-150, the material is gaining acceptance among more mainstream automakers. Toyota is one such brand, with a new report indicating that the Japanese giant will add aluminum bits and bobs to some of its upcoming vehicles.
These won't be full, aluminum-intensive treatments like the F-150, however. Automotive News reports that an aluminum hood and liftgate will be coming to the 2016 Lexus RX, and following that, the Camry will get a bonnet built from Element 13 for model year 2018.
As AN points out, Toyota is no stranger to aluminum, using it in Japanese-built models like the Prius and Scion FR-S. The RX and Camry, though, will mark the first time the company's North American factories will use the material, and they'll do so on a significantly larger scale, owing to the higher volumes that the Camry and RX represent.
2016 Lexus GS F is a .22 in a .357 world, and that might not be a bad thing
Tue, Jan 13 2015In Max Brooks' zombie epic World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, the author envisions an apocalypse where the living dead necessitate a rethinking of societal behavior. One such change, among many, was the replacement of large-caliber, automatic weapons with smaller .22-caliber rounds and semi-automatic firearms that promise better accuracy when battling the undead. We're hoping Lexus used this as its inspiration when finalizing the numbers for its 467-horsepower, 4,000-pound GS F sedan. Lexus may not have brought a knife to a gun fight, but it's fair to say the firepower of its new GS F is lagging behind that of its German rivals. While BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and most recently, Cadillac, are playing with force-induced V8s and power figures that are well north of 550 ponies, Lexus' kiddy table approach belies a significant weight savings against some of its rivals. At just 4,034 pounds, the Lexus is some 350 pounds lighter than the BMW M5 and nearly 400 pounds lighter than the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S 4Matic (that said, the Lexus is only about 100 pounds lighter than the 640-horsepower Cadillac CTS-V). We won't know if this weight advantage is enough for the 2016 GS F to outrun its competitors until we're able to drive it, though. Beyond that, Lexus has fitted the sort of tinsel typical of its high-performance models, with an even more wildly gaped fascia and vertically staggered rear exhausts. Meaty wheels and tires hide under flared wheel arches, while the cabin features far more aggressive sport seats and stylish upholstery. Take a look at our live images of the new GS F, fresh off is debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
New Lexus small CUV may have been behind moving ES production to Kentucky
Mon, 22 Apr 2013Lexus may have had another big reason - in addition to the financial incentives potentially worth up to $146.5 million that Kentucky offered - to move ES production to its Georgetown, KY plant. The ES has always been built in Japan, and a report at TheDetroitBureau.com claims that the Kyushu facility will be tooling up to build a new model thought to be a compact hybrid crossover expected to go on sale next year. While ES300h production would remain in Japan, shedding 50,000 units of traditional ES production would free capacity for what many think will be an important model in the Lexus lineup.
The new CUV will come in below the RX and be built on the platform of the RAV4. Speculation is that there will be an NX200t and an NX300h, the former possibly getting the 2.0-liter turbo Toyota engine due in 2014 - matching the predicted timeline for the CUV and supposedly also meant for an RX200t - and latter getting the same 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain in the ES300h. We'll see a preview of the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 fighter at this year's Tokyo Motor Show; the production version should be unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
