This car is rare (only ~2000 were shipped to the US and the black exterior with tan leather interior is even more rare) and if you can find one at a dealer it will run you $11k-$13k with similar mileage.

I have had several services performed on the car recently and all were accomplished by Lexus/Toyota specialists with OEM parts and fluids.  Recent work includes:
  • New OEM timing belt/tensioner/waterpump (this was performed as part of proactive maintenance, not due to failure of any parts) - September/2013
  • Flushed coolant and replaced with OEM coolant (performed during water pump replacement) - September/2013
  • Replaced transmission fluid with OEM fluid - September/2013
  • Replaced engine air filter - September/2013
  • Performed engine oil and oil filter change with Mobile One Full Synthetic oil 2k miles ago (this oil can last 7K miles conservatively)
  • Replaced cabin air filter - September/2013
  • New Kenwood CD radio with Bluetooth connectivity, Siri integration, wireless music streaming, and hands-free dialing and commands. Gives turn-by-turn directions when using your iOS or Android device with Google Maps, Waze, Apple Map Apps, etc.  Also has USB and AUX connection on the face and a remote control.
  • Replaced front wiper blades - November/2013
  • Yakima roof rails professionally installed to accept a variety of rack towers such as Yakima and Thule for bike/surfboard/kayak/etc systems
Other Info:
- California clear title in hand
- Registration recently renewed and valid through October 2014
- Passed smog/emissions recently
- Tires have plenty of tread left
- Top local mechanic said brakes look good in September when performing other work described above.

** DISCLAIMER
A previous owner appears to have been in an accident that involved the front end of the car. I have deduced this from the following information. There is a crack in the front grille (cosmetic only) and the washer fluid reservoir is not present. This can be replaced quite easily but I just have not gotten around to it. In general the car is in good condition and mechanically it is in great condition. There are a few scratches and small dents that are typical for a 12 year old car and do not show in the photos. Yakima towers and crossbars are not included with the sale. The image is just to show that a rack system provided by you, can easily be mounted to the existing running rails.

Toyota and Lexus show off advanced safety research vehicle [w/video]

Tue, 08 Jan 2013

While Google and Audi explore the possibilities of autonomous vehicles, Toyota and its Lexus division are studying the intermediate step of vehicles equipped with a deep suite of technology that help drivers make the best decisions. Introduced at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Lexus advanced safety research vehicle is an LS sedan fitted with three high-def color cameras to detect objects up to almost 500 feet away, 360-degree Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) lasers that can detect objects up to 220 feet away, three radar units to keep track of other vehicles at intersections, a precision odometer on the rear wheel, GPS that estimates orientation and an accelerometer.
Currently testing at a purpose-built 8.6 acre urban testing ground at the Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Susono, Japan the Toyota research vehicle is being used to study how to make better drivers, as well as figuring out how to reduce crashes as the industry's journey through passive and active safety systems progresses. In the event of a crash, new rescue systems are also being tested.
Further investment is being put into the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) that would use shortwave signals to harness information from the car and from other vehicles on the road, as well as roadside infrastructure and even pedestrians. Toyota reasons it could then build a picture of interactions and, for instance, alert the driver to a potential collision at a blind intersection.

Toyota and Lexus will have standard automatic braking by 2017

Sat, Mar 26 2016

Last week, NHTSA and IIHS announced that 20 auto manufacturers and three agencies had agreed to include automatic emergency braking (AEB) as standard equipment by 2022. Toyota was one of those 20 companies, but this week they upped the AEB ante: Nearly every Toyota and Lexus model and trim level will have standard AEB by 2017. That's next year. Many models already offer AEB as part of the Lexus Safety System+ and Toyota Safety Sense packages, but consumers have had to pay extra for these options (unless they leased a Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle; it already has AEB as standard equipment.) By the end of next year, all but the Lexus GS, Toyota 4Runner and Toyota 86 — which was developed together with Subaru — will have AEB installed at no extra cost. (Interestingly, the new Prius Prime unveiled at the New York International Auto Show has Safety Sense as an option rather than standard equipment.) The AEB function is part of Toyota's safety suites, which will be included in 25 Lexus and Toyota models. Both makes have a precollision system that detects the possibility of collision with the car ahead and engages the brakes if the driver doesn't react quickly enough, as well as lane departure alerts and automatic high beams. Toyota's move leapfrogs ahead of Honda making its Honda Sensing system, which includes AEB tech, available as a flat $1,000 option on every Civic Sedan. Lexus NX rolls on wheels made of ice

Tue, Dec 22 2015

To create this rolling ice sculpture, Lexus teamed up with London-based Hamilton Ice Sculptors, which fitted the compact luxury crossover with wheels and tires crafted from ice. The sub-zero craftsmen then deep-froze the entire vehicle, stored it at -22 degrees Fahrenheit, and drove it around London – pleasantly surprised to find that it started on the first try. As far as publicity stunts go, the finished product looks even cooler than the cardboard IS that Lexus had crafted a few months ago or the biometric glow-in-the-dark RC F from this past summer. The project took three months of research, design, and testing to carry out. The wheels replicate the alloys on the NX with millimetric precision, right down to the tread pattern, and each one took a team of four craftsmen 36 hours of work to complete. Of course, blocks of ice would have a hard time supporting the weight of the vehicle – especially while in motion – so the frozen wheels were reinforced with clear acrylic discs. And to make it all glow, they were also fitted with in-wheel LED lighting. This isn't the first time we've seen ice sculptors apply their skills to automobiles, following the frozen Canadian Tire pickup, Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Cube, and Saab Aero-X we've seen in recently years. But this one is at least as cool, in one sense or another. Scope out the results in the video above, and the process that went into their creation in the making-of video below. LEXUS NX RIDES ON THE WORLD'S COOLEST WHEELS – CRAFTED IN SOLID ICE The concept of driving on ice has taken on a whole new meaning for Lexus, which has crafted the world's first set of working wheels and tyres made from frozen water. Brussels, Belgium - True to its mission of "creating amazing" and inspired by the craftsmanship that goes into every vehicle it makes, Lexus commissioned a team of ice sculpture specialists to explore how ice could be used in place of conventional alloy metal and rubber. After three months' research, design and testing, the finished wheels were fitted to a Lexus NX for the ultimate ice drive. The car itself was deep-frozen, stored for five days at -30°C (it started first time) before being driven off down a London road. The addition of in-wheel LED lighting added an extra dramatic dimension to the cutting-edge contemporary styling of the NX.
