1992 Lexus SC300. 1992 1JZGTE soarer engine swap.
I personally built this car (and many more throughout the years) starting back in 2005. Built for the utmost reliability in any condition. Never raced legally or illegally. In the last few years my interests have moved on to other things and unfortunately the car has spent most of the last 5 years sitting in a carport. Built using the best parts available, no chinese rip offs!! The goal of the build was pump gas performance. I don't care what it could do on race gas. It's too fast for me and I keep boost at wastegate (10psi), but on a good 93 octane tune it dynos just over 500whp at 18psi.
Never crashed, wrecked, or salvaged title. Wasn't a "shell" or anything shady. Squeaky clean carfax. I purchased the stock car originally from Raz at IMV films to fund their famous "Vehicular Lunatics" film. I am the 3rd owner the car was originally purchased in south Florida, I have that paperwork in the glove box.
Chassis:
-Imported late 90's SSR Varden Sport Schwartz 3 piece forged rims. Ultra rare period correct rims.
-Koni Yellow shocks
-Factory MKIV TT springs to retain some level of comfort and the ability to drive over speedbumps. Lowered nearly 2in from stock height.
-Cusco Strut tower brace
-LS400 front brake calipers, EBC rotors/pads
-Factory rear brakes to fit 15" Weld racing rims if I ever did want to race it
-Battery relocated to the trunk (Recently new AGM cell)
-New front tires, rear tires 40% but I have matching extras ready to go when these wear out!
Engine:
-Precision PT 74 GTS turbo
-Precision intercooler
-Turbonetics blow off valve
-Tial 44mm wastegate
-Custom made ($1200) equal length 1JZ manifold. Ported and polished. Ceramic coated inside and out.
-550cc low resistance side feed injectors (wire harness modified for low resistance injectors with MKIII Supra resistor)
-2JZGTE headgasket for upgraded rear cylinder cooling
-Twin turbo water passages TIG welded shut to avoid leaks when twins were removed for single
-Custom ordered SARD re-flashed ECU with no speed/boost limiations and custom fuel/ignition map for the single turbo. SAFC2 for fine tuning when boost changes are made. Insanely reliable setup. 18mpg city/25+ highway. Something you can't do with a AEM!
-Griffith MKIV aluminum radiator
-Greddy catch can
-TTE Performance custom spark plug cover
Driveline:
-Automatic Transmission Factory Stage III a340e automatic transmission. Capable of taking the abuse of 8 second 1/4mi passes for years. Bulletproof. Best transmission money can buy. Less than 2 years old and maybe 500 miles on it.
-2500 stall converter
-Factory Torsen LSD
-Two transmission coolers, front mount and radiator mount.
-Factory driveshaft to serve as "weak link" so you don't break axles or rear ends. It has and will twist a driveshaft like a pretzel.
Interior:
-Factory grey interior
-1997 MKIV Black leather front seats
-Toyota Soarer steering wheel
-Sony CDX-GT700HD stereo (hd, ipod, etc)
-3M 15% black tint
Body:
-Repainted in 2009 factory color with DuPont Base/Clear
-1997 front bumper
-Wise "whale tale" rear spoiler (not installed)
-JDM folding mirrors
-JDM side markers
I'm sure there's a lot more I forgot.
The Bad:
Car sat for years, took it's toll on some things. The A/C kinda gets cold but needs a re-charge I will probably do that this weekend. Something in the sunroof motor broke, it's manual control now. It was parked with the rear facing south in a carport so the rear trunk/bumper clear coat is faded even though it was repainted with DuPont 5 years ago. A good buff will bring back the car nearly perfect but the rear trunk/bumper will need repainting. The interior is typical of a car that sat for a few years, needs a good detail. Rear seats could be recovered (typical sc300 issue). I never installed the cruise control cable, but if you can find a MKIV TT one it will work. I drive the car weekly now to get some use on it and it runs perfect aside from those things. Years ago you could eat off this car back when I was in the "car scene". It's been to many car shows. It's famously known as the "Two Jay Z with Nas" meme car. I'm sure you've seen that image.

2018 Lexus LC 500h is a wonderful mechanical mishmash
Wed, Mar 2 2016Lexus is following up on the Detroit debut of the LC 500 with a Geneva debut for a new hybrid model that, yes, has a four-speed automatic. We're still getting used to the idea, too. But as we've explained before, even with the old-school gearbox there's some real cutting edge stuff going on here. While the LC hybrid will have a four-speed auto, it will work in conjunction with an eCVT, a Lexus hybrid system, and possibly black magic. It's all very complicated – you can get particulars here – but it's best to think of the LC 500h's transmissions not as a CVT and a four-speed auto, but as a sort of ten-speed hybrid of the two, since both systems are always engaged. The hybrid system is much more familiar. There's a 3.5-liter V6, a battery pack, and two electric motors. Total system output is 354 ponies and Lexus claims the sprint to 60 mph will be done in under five seconds. For the record, the gas-only LC is projected to do the deed in around 4.5 seconds, so the hybrid shouldn't be a dramatic compromise in terms of performance. Of course, stats only tell so much. The ultimate question for the LC 500h is how its wild mix of transmissions, batteries, motors, and an engine will behave on the road. We don't have an answer for that yet, but we do have live images of the new hybridized Lexus at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Check them out. The LC 500h is equipped with Lexus' next generation hybrid powertrain, the Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System, providing enhanced driving pleasure, more performance, and greater efficiency. The LC was first revealed at the 2016 North America International Auto Show. Its styling, performance and craftsmanship position the vehicle as Lexus' flagship coupe. The LC also utilizes Lexus' new architecture that promises enhanced dynamic capability. Inspired by the acclaimed LF-LC concept that debuted in 2012, the LC represents a shift in Lexus' engineering processes and design ideologies, and marks the beginning of a new phase for the Lexus brand.
Lexus eschews production in China over quality concerns
Sat, 03 May 2014One of the more popular trends in the auto industry is setting up production operations in China. Mainstream manufacturers like Ford, General Motors and Volkswagen have done it, and even luxury marques like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have or will soon have manufacturing ops in the People's Republic.
One company that isn't building cars in China, though, is Lexus. The Toyota-owned luxury brand still manufactures all of its vehicles in Japan (aside from a few RXs, which are built at a Toyota factory in Canada). According to Tokuo Fukuichi, Lexus just isn't ready to build cars there yet.
"The German Three have a brand image that they have cultivated over the past century in their long history, but Lexus is not in people's minds like that yet," Fukuichi-san told Reuters UK.
J.D. Power study sees new car dependability problems increase for first time since 1998
Wed, 12 Feb 2014For the first time since 1998, J.D. Power and Associates says its data shows that the average number of problems per 100 cars has increased. The finding is the result of the firm's much-touted annual Vehicle Dependability Study, which charts incidents of problems in new vehicle purchases over three years from 41,000 respondents.
Looking at first-owner cars from the 2011 model year, the study found an average of 133 problems per 100 cars (PP100, for short), up 6 percent from 126 PP100 in last year's study, which covered 2010 model-year vehicles. Disturbingly, the bulk of the increase is being attributed to engine and transmission problems, with a 6 PP100 boost.
Interestingly, JDP notes that "the decline in quality is particularly acute for vehicles with four-cylinder engines, where problem levels increase by nearly 10 PP100." Its findings also noticed that large diesel engines also tended to be more problematic than most five- and six-cylinder engines.
