Those wishing to fly their "green" flag in the lap of luxury now have a willing ally in which to strut their stuff. The Lexus RX 400h SUV has an advanced gasoline-electric drivetrain which combines the perfect marriage between luxury and utility of Lexus' RX midsize crossover vehicle with great fuel economy and performance of a hybrid.

This front-wheel-drive version uses a hybrid powertrain system that combines a gasoline-fueled V6 engine with a battery pack and electric motor generators. Similar to the hybrid setups on other Toyota products, this 400h can seamlessly accelerate on battery power alone during light acceleration. It also has a generous 286 horsepower overall, giving it impressive performance along with superior fuel economy ratings.

Owned by a real estate executive who commuted from Arizona to Los Angeles, most the miles are highway driven and the SUV shows very little wear both mechanically and cosmetically.

Let’s take a closer look now.

 Exterior:

The finish is 100% factory original and in amazing condition.

In reality, a clean, original finish with only a few minor scratches and rock chips is a very rare and highly desirable trait of any 8-year-old, SUV!

In this case, what lies beyond the shiny exterior speaks volumes about the loving care this Lexus has always received.

The owner commuted from Arizona to California for work. Miles are mostly driven on the highway.

Surveying the straight and smooth coachwork today, we marvel at how well the finish looks.

Brand New Radials with 18” alloy wheels have amazing detail.

Speaking of detail, let us stress how straight the body is, how glossy the paint: if you wouldn't know differently, you'd think to be looking at an 8-month old, not an 8-year old SUV.

This one is that clean!

We'll inspect the interior next, shall we?

The Lexus RX 400h crossover was the first true luxury hybrid SUV, and this one comes with the premium interior amenities.

Inside the streamlined, modern cabin with aluminum accents are 10-way driver & passenger power leather front seats with heater controls.

From the carpet to the door panels and headliner with power moonroof; everything appears untouched.

Second-row sliding and reclining split rear seat optimizes passenger comfort.

All VIN stickers are in place.

Always garaged and never smoked in, the original, leather seats are still soft and supple.

The Navigation, Dual Climate controls and multi-disk CD are all located here.

Everything works and system guarantees pleasurable audio, even when traveling at speeds well above the double nickel.

The full array of bright-ringed instruments all work flawlessly including a gauge detailing the hybrid's gas-electric power generation split.

The 135,029 miles are mostly from highway commutes.

a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel,

with audio, trip computer and Bluetooth controls.

The large touchscreen includes navigation system

 And back-up camera.

Remarkably, with the exception of the photo below, there is very little wear on the controls and surfaces.

The finish is wrinkled in a small section of the lower right side of this panel, (see photo above).

Other knobs and levers still look nearly untouched.

A power liftgate provides access to nearly 85 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded down.

Complete jacking equipment is located below a floor panel here.

Both keys are included. One works perfectly however the other key is missing the remote buttons.

The Owner’s Manual and all original books tuck neatly into their original leather pouch.

A picture says more than a thousand words: this Lexus’ interior is immaculate! Everything looks, smells and feels as if the SUV was delivered yesterday, not 8 years ago.

Let’s have a look under the hood:

Under the sheet metal, the 400h's hybrid drivetrain combines a 3.3-liter V6 engine with a 288-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack and high-torque, electric-drive motor-generators.

Note all VIN stickers are still in place confirming this is a 100% accident free SUV.

Driving through a continuously variable transmission, the 400h produces 268 hp and has a 0-60-mph time of less than 8 seconds. Standard safety features are plentiful, including front, side curtain and driver-knee airbags, as well as stability and traction control and a rollover sensor.

Once underway, the Lexus RX 400h drives much like its traditional gas-powered sibling but with whisper quiet electric motors. Put your foot into the pedal and acceleration is certainly spirited. The 400h's ride is soft and compliant, yet the handling is also generally tight and precise.

Finally, with an original MSRP of over $49,000, the 2006 Lexus RX 400H has reached the bottom-end of the depreciation curve; a perfect time to buy.

Being among of the best of the breed, this Super SUV has fantastic appreciation potential and can easily serve as a reliable daily driver.

Presently, we have a clear, Arizona Title. A CA smog Certificate will be provided to complete Title transfer here in CA. Local sales tax along with current DMV License, Registration & Transfer fees apply to residents in CA.

All questions must be answered and all inspections must be completed PRIOR TO BIDDING.

Because this is an 8-year-old SUV, it is being sold in AS-IS CONDITION and comes with absolutely NO WARRANTIES EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED.

We are proud to have 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK. Bid with confidence, knowing everything represented in this auction is accurate.
BIDDERS WITH ZERO OR NEGETIVE FEEDBACK MUST EMAIL US FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO BIDDING OR THEIR BID WILL BE CANCELED.

Is this SUV "mint?" Of course not. No vehicle that has been driven on the highway can rightfully be called "mint." It's a term best reserved for uncirculated coins. But being an 8 year-old Lexus with 135,000 highway miles that has always been treated with utmost respect, it's as good as it gets.

This Lexus’ present condition and buying terms have been described as accurately as possible. If you have ANY questions or want to schedule a personal or 3rd party inspection, please email us PRIOR TO BIDDING. You will receive a prompt response.

Please note; Cars2K is a CA licensed, eBay trading assistant listing this Lexus for the private owner.

  • We are not making warranties as to the SUV’s fitness or originality.
  • We simply photographed and described it to the best of our ability.
  • Pre-bid inspections are welcome. Post bid inspections ARE NOT!
  • Please respect eBay’s rules for the auction’s stability!

This is certainly one of the finest Lexus SUV's in the nation and is offered here with No Reserve. What a great opportunity to purchase a prime example of one of the World's most acclaimed Hybrid SUVs; the RX 400H which is sure to remain an outstanding investment for the winning bidder and a joy to drive for many years to come.

Thank you, good luck and HAPPY BIDDING!

Lexus planning second flagship alongside LS sedan

Thu, Aug 6 2015

Lexus is planning to launch another flagship to slot alongside the LS sedan, but we don't know if it will be a coupe or a crossover. The coupe has been the persistent rumor. Lexus showed the two-door LF-LC concept in 2012 and a production model could borrow its underpinnings from the LS sedan. It's tipped to wear the letters LC or to revive the SC nameplate. The previous SC launched in 1991 as a fixed-roof coupe and offered inline-six or V8 engines. It was replaced in 2001 with the SC430 that had a V8 and a folding hardtop. While the coupe idea may seem like the leading candidate, the company's ambiguity is leading to speculation that the new flagship could adopt a different body-style altogether. "We need a flagship," Lexus general manager Jeff Bracken told Reuters. "It doesn't have to be a sedan." "In addition to the LS, there could be another flagship in our lineup," Bracken said. "We'll define what it is in January." The comments suggest something will be revealed at the Detroit auto show and could open the door to a new flagship SUV or crossover. That position is currently held by the LX 570, which is closely based on the Toyota Land Cruiser. However, sales of the LX have been less than stellar. From the 14,000-plus units Lexus sold of the original LX 470 when it launched in the US back in 2000, annual sales have dropped to just over 4,000 the last few years. Mercedes regularly sells over 25,000 of its GL-Class crossovers each year in the US alone. Last year Audi sold 18,000 Q7s here despite its imminent replacement. Land Rover sold nearly 13,000 Range Rovers last year and another 18,000 Range Rover Sports. Meanwhile, Cadillac typically sells between 20,000 and 30,000 Escalades every year, down from the 50,000-60,000 it sold a decade ago. A facelift is due for the LX that ought to spike sales a little, but Lexus will need more than a refresh to catch up with those rivals. In the meantime, it reportedly plans to roll out a three-row variant of the new RX before its lifespan is over. "We don't want to wait for a next generation" to give the RX the added seating capacity many customers are demanding, said Bracken. Related Video:

Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota

Wed, Feb 25 2015

It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability. 2022 Genesis GV70, raging at VW ID.4 tech and thoughts on a new Lexus LFA | Autoblog Podcast #696

Fri, Sep 17 2021

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Senior Editor James Riswick. This week, they talk about driving the Genesis GV70, VW ID.4 and VW Taos. They talk about ways Chevy could "fix" the Camaro. James ranked all the James Bond films based solely on their starring cars. Next, they reach in the mailbag and discuss the question, "Do you think Lexus will make a successor to the LFA and, if so, what do you guys think it would be like?" After ruminating on that query, they dip into the mailbag a second time to recommend a sporty crossover to a listener in this week's Spend My Money segment.
