Lexus bringing next-gen IS to Detroit
Tue, 04 Dec 2012With ES, GS and LS models all now minty fresh at your local Lexus showroom, it was only a matter of time before we had official word that the company's IS had a replacement in the wings. That word has come down today in an ultra brief press release that names the date and venue that the sheet will be pulled on the new car: January 15th in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show.
Don't pay too much attention to the test mule in these dusty spy shots, we're told that the small Lexus has been "completely redesigned" from the inside out and that it has drawn inspiration from the sultry LF-CC concept car. In LA we learned that the LF-CC has been green-lit for production, so we'd expect to see a lot of cues from that car (in the gallery below) lifted directly for the all-new IS. New fang-face, here we come.
While a coupe and a convertible version of the next IS are undoubtedly in the cards, too, we'd guess that the sedan will be first to go on stage at Detroit next month.
Fresh-faced Lexus NX crossover set to debut in Shanghai
Wed, Mar 29 2017The updated Lexus NX compact crossover is set to show its revised face at Auto Shanghai 2017. The NX debuted back in 2014, which means the time is prime for a mid-cycle refresh. While this won't be an all-new model, expect fresh styling both inside and out. The single teaser images shows a new headlight design and possibly a reworked grille. We don't know much beyond that. The NX, which shares a platform with the Toyota RAV4, comes with the choice of two powertrains and the option of front or all-wheel drive. The NX 200t is powered by a 235 horsepower turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. The 300h is the requisite hybrid model. Its total system output is 194 horsepower. In addition to the updated NX, Lexus is rolling out the LS 500h for an Asian audience. The car debuted earlier this month in Geneva. Look for more photos and info after the debut on either April 19 or 20. Toyota announces two recalls affecting 1M Corolla, Matrix and Lexus IS models
Wed, 30 Jan 2013The recall bug strikes Toyota again. The automaker has issued a voluntary recall of three models that, in total, represent more than one million units. Around 752,000 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla and Matrix models are being recalled for airbag concerns, while a windshield wiper issue is causing the recall for close to 270,000 Lexus IS sedans from the 2006-2012 model years.
Completely unrelated to the small airbag-related recall issued earlier in the week, the Corolla and Matrix recall is caused by a faulty airbag control module that could potentially short circuit, which could lead to the front airbags or seat belt pretensioners deploying. The Lexus recall is due to a wiper arm nut that wasn't tightened properly, which can cause the wipers to not work when trying to clear heavy buildup such as snow.
