Rustfree 1995 Land Rover Discovery I Sd Early 3.9l Black / Tan Runs Well on 2040-cars
San Mateo, California, United States
Solid 1995 Land Rover Discovery Series I, an SD model. This is the second year of the Discovery Series 1 in the U.S ( which still shared most of its running gear with the Range Rover Short Wheelbase). It is a very straight, RUST-FREE DI throughout, to include chassis, undercarriage, roofline and gutters, door panels, fenders, quarter panels, door sills, rocker panels and tailgate areas. NO fading of the roof or hood, a fairly common problem on all Land Rovers. It is fairly loaded with some Power amenities such as Power windows ( all four work, to include a recently replaced driver's side regulator, the one that always goes out), central locking, factory alarm, etc. This Discovery I is a non Power-sunroof model ( less hassles with the leakage-prone models), roof bars and the factory Tow package ( although nothing has been towed). It also has the optional knubbed-rubber heavy duty mats and rear-access hydraulic step. Completely stock 3.9L engine ( the last series engine shared with the Range Rover SWB Classic motor), NOT one of the 4.6L nightmare motors of later DIIs with the endemic cases of slipped cylinder sleeves, premature oil-pressure failure or defective-block issues. (Ever wonder why out of all Discovery models for sale most are 03-04s, and not the earlier ones..?). It has had a new water pump installed, fuel pump, BOSCH alternator and some other maintenance items. It also has DEFENDER alloy wheels with nice CONTINENTAL tires all the way around, with approximately 70% tread remaining. 150K original miles, and its condition reflects it. No engine issues or other drama. This Discovery I runs VERY well, tracks straight and drives nicely both in town and in the highway. There are NO service lights on ( NO TC, CHECK ENGINE, ABS or HDC lights turned off or reset). Considering its vintage, This Discovery I is remarkably clean, and the photos do not do it justice~! The 1995 SD is one of the most popular years with off-road enthusiasts because of its simpler, basic mechanics and electrical systems unlike later models. It is turn-key, WITHOUT the usual head-gasket issues nor overheating, and it will make a great traveler or off-road trekker.
You must take a look at these very interesting links to understand the Land Rover bug: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1PVx2soxDc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JvHSR5wFZQ Feel free to EM or call with pertinent questions or serious inquiries. I can be reached at (650) 430-4660, no later than 9pm PST, please. I have spent over 20 years in this great country's military and have owned Land Rovers of various types and vintage for nearly 35 years. While I am not a mechanic, I am an avid Land Rover enthusiast ( I own four others) and consider myself fairly well-versed on most of the Land Rover quirks and have assessed this DI as a VERY solid, straight and rust-free example of an unrestored Land Rover Discovery, specially one of the early ones. Honest CARFAX REPORT. CLEAR title. NON-SMOKER, NO pets or children in it. Always adult-owned, and its general condition reflects it.

Jaguar Land Rover's latest tech makes roads safer for bikes [w/video]
Tue, Jan 20 2015Safety in automobiles isn't just about protecting the occupants anymore. It's about protecting pedestrians who might be struck by an automobile, and as Jaguar Land Rover is demonstrating, it's about protecting cyclists as well. The latest experimental safety system from the British automaker is called Bike Sense, and it builds upon technologies the company has demonstrated recently, taking them a step further to make the road safer for those riding on two wheels. The system uses a combination of colors, sounds and vibrations to alert the driver of a potential hazard that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. Demonstrated on an XJ sedan, the system identifies nearby two-wheeled vehicles as pedal-powered or motorized, and alerts the driver accordingly. If a cycle is passing a the vehicle's blind spot, the top of the seat will vibrate to virtually "tap" the driver on the left or right shoulder, prompting him or her to look over that shoulder for the hazard. LEDs inside the cabin will then illuminate amber to red in the direction that the bike is passing. The system will even chime a bicycle bell or motorcycle horn as the two-wheeled vehicle approaches, and vibrate or stiffen the accelerator pedal if the driver keeps moving towards the obstacle. And if an occupant of the parked vehicle starts to open the door into the path of moving vehicle, it'll flash a light, sound an alarm and even vibrate the door handle to warn the occupant of the oncoming hazard. We could imagine the alerts getting a little distracting, but JLR says the system is designed to prioritize potential hazards when their are groups of pedestrians, bicyclists and/or motorcycle riders on a busy urban street. This is, of course, just the latest in a long string of new systems JLR has under development, following such technologies as the Transparent Bonnet, the Smart Assistant, the Virtual Windscreen for track sessions and the 360 Virtual Urban Windscreen for city driving. Jaguar opens new engine plant in the UK
Thu, 30 Oct 2014The heads of Jaguar Land Rover are having a busy couple of weeks opening factories. Just days after inaugurating the company's first overseas plant in China, the automaker's new Engine Manufacturing Center in the UK is being inaugurated, as well. The plant near Wolverhampton, England, marks the first time in decades that JLR is building its own powerplants in-house. Further signaling the importance of this launch for the business, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were on hand and even tweeted about it.
The factory's first major project is to build JLR's latest Ingenium four-cylinders, starting with the 2.0-liter diesel version. "Our new Engine Manufacturing Centre is an important step in advancing the competitiveness and capability of the UK automotive sector. The production of in-house engines will support the expansion of the UK supply chain providing critical mass for inward investment," said Trevor Leeks, plant operations director in the automaker's announcement.
Opening the doors to the Engine Manufacturing Center has been years in the making for JLR. The plant was first announced in September 2011 and broke ground in June 2012. Building it cost the company 500 million pounds ($800 million) and created 1,400 new jobs. Of course, being a state-of-the-art factory, considerations were made to make the place as energy efficient as possible. That meant installing the UK's largest solar array with 21,000 panels to produce about 30 percent of the site's electricity needs.
Jaguar Land Rover tech tracks brainwaves, heart, lungs
Wed, Jun 17 2015Jaguar Land Rover has been on a bit of a tech kick lately, and its latest is called Mind Sense, which uses biometric sensors to monitor and enhance the driver's level of alertness. Jaguar is installing brainwave sensors adapted from NASA into the steering wheel of an XJ sedan, along with medical-grade heart and respiratory sensors in the seat. Together, the sensors would determine if the driver is focused on the road, dozing off, merely thinking about something else, or if the driver's stress level suddenly peaks. The system would enable the vehicle to better prepare for an emergency, or for a future autonomous vehicle to hand off control to a better-prepared driver where needed. At the same time, JLR is also working on an enhanced infotainment system designed to reduce the amount of time the driver's hands are off the wheel and their eyes are off the road. The system determines which control they're reaching for on the display and engages it while their finger is still in mid-air, deploying an ultrasonic pulse to provide artificial haptic feedback without actually having to touch anything. Finally, a new haptic accelerator pedal is under development that could alert the driver to respond to an impending situation without overloading the senses with chimes and beeps. These latest developments follow the demonstration of a remote-control system installed on a Range Rover Sport, and follow in a long line of new technologies under development by the British automaker. JAGUAR LAND ROVER ROAD SAFETY RESEARCH INCLUDES BRAIN WAVE MONITORING TO IMPROVE DRIVER CONCENTRATION AND REDUCE ACCIDENTS - Jaguar Land Rover's pioneering Mind Sense project is researching measuring brainwaves to monitor driver concentration in the car - Researchers are developing a Wellness Seat in a Jaguar XJ which analyses the driver's heart rate and breathing to monitor driver health and stress - Touchscreens that predict which button you want to press as the user's fingers are in mid-air - to minimise time spent with eyes off the road - Jaguar Land Rover researchers use new haptic accelerator pedal to communicate hazards to the driver Whitley, UK: Jaguar Land Rover has revealed a range of new road safety technology research projects that are being developed to reduce the number of accidents caused by drivers who are stressed, distracted and not concentrating on the road ahead.
