Clean Rust-free 2000 Land Rover Discovery Dii Se 76k Original Miles Off Road Rdy on 2040-cars
San Mateo, California, United States
Remarkably clean 2000 Land Rover Discovery Series II. This is the second year of the Discovery Series II, and an SE model. It is a straight, RUST-FREE DII throughout, to include chassis, undercarriage, roofline and gutters, door panels, fenders, quarter panels, door sills, rocker panels and tailgate areas. It is fairly loaded with all Power amenities except DVD system. This Discovery also has the dual Power-sunroof option ( both work fine and DO NOT leak), roof bars and the factory Tow package ( although nothing has been towed). It also has TERRAFIRMA sidesteps ( manufactured by MANIK), factory full wraparound brush guards, headlight guards and rear-access ladder. In addition, it has been professionally fitted with a 2" Lift set up, with UK-made TERRAFIRMA springs (the commercial brand for the British autoparts-maker ALLMAKES), struts, lift blocks and bushings. Off-road grade Mickey Thompson all-terrain tires ( with approximately 90% tread on them), mounted on 16" steel wheels from ATLANTIC BRITISH. Completely stock, reliable 4.0L BOSCH engine ( revised by BMW during their tenure of Land Rover), not the early 4.0L GEMS, and NOT one of the 4.6L nightmare motors of later DIIs with the endemic cases of slipped cylinder sleeves, premature oil-pressure failure or defective-block issues. (Ever wonder why out of all Discovery IIs for sale most are 03-04s, and not the earlier ones..?) 76K original miles, and its condition reflects it. No engine issues or other drama. The powertrain runs GREAT. This Discovery II runs VERY well, tracks well, rides well and drives nicely both in town and in the highway, even with the all-terrain tires. Considering its vintage, This Discovery II is remarkably clean, and the photos do not do it justice~! The 2000 SE is one of the best years to own. It is turn-key, WITHOUT the usual head-gasket issues nor overheating, and it will make a great traveler or off-road trekker.
EXCELLENT headliner, without any sagging, staining or damage. Beluga-black factory finish still shines nicely, and looks great with the wheels. I have spent over 20 years in this great country's military and have owned Land Rovers of various types and vintage for nearly 35 years. I am well versed on most Land Rover quirks and have assessed this DII as a VERY solid, straight and completely rust-free example of a Discovery.
I am glad to assist with NATIONWIDE or OVERSEAS delivery at the most economical shipping rate available. I can do all coordination from here, and you pay the transporter cost directly to the shipper upon receipt of the Discovery. Should you be the winning bidder, I would like to receive payment within THREE business days, please. Cashiers check or Bank draft are preferred. Personal, business or annuity checks may be utilized, but must clear funds source prior to any transportation arrangements being made. Another option is a Bank wire transfer to our local CHASE Bank branch here in town. That expedites the process considerably and allows for faster shipping arrangements. Upon receipt of payment, I will overnight the title and bill of sale to the winning bidder. Thank you for your interest~! |

Jaguar Land Rover won't get a bailout from the UK
Sun, Aug 16 2020Bailout talks between Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel with the UK government have ended, leaving both firms to rely on private financing to overcome the impact of coronavirus on business, the Financial Times reported on Friday. The report said that talks for an emergency funding fell through as Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) did not qualify for taxpayer support. It is the luxury car unit of India's Tata Motors and Tata Steel, both owned by Indian conglomerate Tata Group. The bailout plan, titled "Project Birch", had been authorized by Finance Minister Rishi Sunak in May to rescue companies that are seen as strategically important, with the Treasury saying it may step in to support crucial businesses on a "last resort" basis after other options run out. The report, citing a source familiar with the matter, said that the funding scheme became infeasible for Tata as it imposed strict conditions on any lending. "Tata Steel remains in ongoing and constructive talks with the UK Government on areas of potential support," Tata Steel said in an emailed statement. The UK Treasury said it would not comment on individual companies. Tata Motors did not immediately respond to request for comment. This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]
Thu, 13 Nov 2014As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.
Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota
Wed, Feb 25 2015It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability.
