This car has been amazing and would be a fantastic vehicle for some lucky person who is knowledgeable about repairs.  You can't take chances with kids, so, after 11 great years of owning this amazing vehicle, i decided to hang it up last week when it unexpectedly broke down.  The car is not mobile right now, but, likely can be fixed or be used for parts (which are not cheap).  I have not taken it to a mechanic to obtain a formal diagnosis, so, cannot say what is actually wrong with the vehicle.

The vehicle looks great as you can see from the photos.  Would be a prized gem for anyone and a solid, solid car for many years to come. Photos show the car inside and out, top and under.

The good
  • The drive shaft was replaced with an original part in 2011.  When the drive shaft broke, It poked a hole in the transmission.
  • The transmission was replaced in 2011 as a result of the drive shaft with a used transmission that had fewer miles on it than the car.
  • The headlight lamps were replaced 2 months ago.  Fixtures for headlights and tail lights look good.  Left tail has small crack.
  • Tires ok.  Spare needs to be replaced.
  • Brakes replaced about 12-18 months ago.
  • Brand new windshield wipers still in the package just purchased two weeks ago.
  • LandRover Wheel Locks for all 5 tires and key, plus extra original lug nuts.
  • Front sunroof works great.
  • 6-Disc CD Changer

The bad
  • Reason for sale.  The car has been leaking anti-freeze for a while.  Last week, it lost fluid quickly and stalled.  After starting again, it struggled to drive and stopped with lots of smoke billowing.  It smelled of anti-freeze.
  • There is a small dent on the driver side door.
  • The second sunroof does not open.  Probably just an electric short.
  • The radio antenna should be replaced.  Radio goes in and out.  It used to work and has no physical defect.
  • Rear windshield wiper blade is new but the wiper arm stopped working.  Possibly a short.  Not sure.
  • Power locks a little sluggish, but, do work.
  • Front passenger window needs to be reset in regulator.
The reason for the sale may or may not be a big issue.  The rest are all easy fixes.

Buyer must pick up or the car or arrange for it to be picked up.  No delivery.

Jaguar may join the FWD, small-car parade

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

Was it right for Chevrolet to detune the 1975 Corvette's base engine to 165 horsepower? Was Aston Martin wrong to make the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet? Is BMW crazy to be testing the new 1 Series with three-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive? It seems now, just as in the 1970s and 1980s, that emissions regulations and social considerations are driving some automakers to adopt unbefitting practices to maintain acceptance in the eyes of governments and consumers. Jaguar has jumped on the bandwagon, and is considering development of small, frugal, front-wheel-drive cars to help lower Jaguar Land Rover's average vehicle CO2 levels in light of tightening European emissions regulations, Autocar reports.
By 2020, the European Union expects the model range of every manufacturer to average 95 grams per kilometer, which is a new law passed by the European Parliament in April. Manufacturers who make more than 300,000 vehicles per year must meet these targets, and JLR is expected to be producing up to 700,000 vehicles per year by then. CO2 regulations after 2020 will only get stricter, as EU politicians already are talking about lowering CO2 levels to between 68 g/km and 78 g/km. (To put that in perspective, Autocar posits that driving a fully charged electric vehicle in Europe produces about 75 g/km when factoring in the power-generation infrastructure.)
Jaguar has some choices here, but so far they all have drawbacks. It could develop a new, compact chassis architecture for a line of compact vehicles, but the investment required for such a project could be prohibitively expensive. Jaguar has been looking into using the Land Rover Evoque platform for a small SUV, Autocar reports, but Land Rover brand manager John Edwards raises issue with such a plan, saying it may not be financially feasible.

Jaguar Land Rover proposes seats that scientifically massage your butt, for your health

Thu, Jan 16 2020

Habitually sitting too long can degrade a person's health. Scientific research has proven that dormancy can increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, deep-vein thrombosis, and metabolic syndrome, according to the Harvard Medical School. Although sitting can be avoided in many cases, such as using a standing desk at work, taking a seat is the only option when hopping in the car for a drive. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is hoping to address this negative aspect of cars with a new high-tech seat that the company says mimics the act of walking.  JLR calls the concept a shape-shifting, or morphable, seat system, and it is currently in a trial period with Jaguar Land Rover’s Body Interiors Research division. Using actuators built into the seat's foam, the seat will constantly be in motion with micro-adjustments that can be tuned to the needs of different people and body types. JLR believes it has created a system that recreates what is known as pelvic oscillation, a motion that can supposedly trick the brain into thinking the body is walking. In addition to helping to prevent internal health issues, JLR also notes that a sedentary lifestyle can degrade and shorten muscles in the legs, hips, and rear. If these muscles are worked on a regular basis, the chance and risk of injury and back issues could potentially be reduced. The new seats are just one of many car interior technologies JLR has explored. In the past, we've seen tech that tracks brainwaves and heart rates, creates augmented reality, helps prevent motion sickness, and helps stop the spread of germs. They've also taken the time to have an expert demonstrate the perfect seating position. Most of this stuff is experimental for now, but it's possible similar features could eventually trickle down to production cars, in time. See how the seat moves in the video below. Land Rover could build a baby Defender on a platform sourced from BMW

Mon, Aug 12 2019

The collaboration between BMW and Jaguar-Land Rover started out small, it was originally limited to motors for electric cars, but it might not stay that way for long. The Tata-owned British sister companies will allegedly rummage through Munich's sizable parts bin to build nearly half a dozen cars scheduled to come out during the 2020s. According to a report by British magazine Autocar, Jaguar has started designing two small cars that will join its growing family of Pace-badged soft-roaders. They'll be new additions to the firm's portfolio, not replacements for existing cars. One will be a regular crossover, while the other will be a swoopier, form-over-function four-door model ostensibly marketed as a coupe. Both will slot at the very bottom of the Jaguar portfolio, below the already pretty small E-Pace, in a growing market segment where the competition is fierce, and profit margins are thinner than an i3's tires. Here's where BMW apparently comes in. Instead of developing a platform from scratch, the two crossovers could ride on the hybrid-ready, front-wheel drive FAAR architecture found under the third-generation 1 Series hatchback and the upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe. If we believe an earlier report claiming Jaguar and BMW will also share engines, most of the hardware found under the sheet metal will have German genes. All-wheel drive will certainly be available, and it could also come from BMW. The same platform -- and, presumably, the same engines -- would provide the basis for a Land Rover-badged model positioned in the same segment. Autocar learned it will be to the next-generation Defender (pictured) what the Mercedes-Benz GLB is to the G-Class. Some key design cues will carry over, but the two models will share absolutely nothing under the sheet metal. The soft-roader could resurrect the Freelander nameplate when it goes on sale during the 2020s. Looking even further ahead, the front-wheel-drive platform the next Mini Countryman and X1 will utilize could find its way under the replacements for the next Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport. These plans could very well change; the Evoque and the Disco Sport barely entered their second generation, so they're not due for a replacement until the second half of the coming decade. While neither company has confirmed or denied the report, the partnership makes sense from a business standpoint.
