Please read the description very carefully before agreeing to purchase this truck.  I also would recommend a phone call too as this will be a somewhat complicated sale (see below).

This is the best explanation I have ever read about the Land Rover Defender......

"It's not a SUV. It's not luxurious, it's not sporty, and it isn't intended to be. You don't buy a Defender for commuting, unless you are a park ranger. It's very capable off road and very primitive on road"  Alex Devlin

Listing a new 2012 Land Rover Defender 110 diesel (tdi).  If you "google" the LR Def's new clean burning diesel found in the '12 and newer models, you will discover this is probably what saved the Defender.  It's absolutely fantastic!  I have a 6 page document containing standard features and optional accessories that I can fax or email to anyone interested.  Mechanically, this car runs as one would expect for a new vehicle with all systems working fine.

This Defender is a grey market vehicle, meaning it was never intended to be driven in the United States.  The buyer will receive a MSO (Manufacturer's certificate of ownership).  If you would prefer a US title, that can be arranged but will somewhat add to the price of the truck.  Although a title can be obtained, this truck does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and is therefore recommended for EXPORT or OFF ROAD use only.   VIN is SALLDHMP8CA422746 .

The car is located in Atlanta, GA and is available for inspection, test drives, with 3 days advance notice.  I can provide free airport transportation from ATL.

Delivery world wide is available at buyer's expense.  I will deliver to your choice of port.  Jacksonville is the closest and largest to Atlanta.  If you intend to keep the vehicle here in the States, (for offroad use),  I will deliver to anywhere in the "lower 48" for at no charge to buyer but please contact me in advance of bidding for delivery details.

Accepted forms of payment are cash (in person of course) and bank wire transfer only.  I do not accept paypal (although you do need an account to bid on the car).   $15,000 deposit due within 24 hours of the close of the auction.  Deposit will be held in a bank escrow account pending completion of sale. If financing the car, ensure your lender will finance it without a "blue book" value or NADA.

eBay messages also come straight to my Smart phone,
so I can respond very quickly.

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017

Tue, Feb 17 2015

Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).

With a new Jaguar and the Shell app, your car can pay for its own gas

Wed, Feb 15 2017

Contactless payments are making their way into the car. Jaguar and Shell have the first major rollout, allowing you to pay for fuel through the car's touchscreen. Of course you'll still have to get out of the car to actually pump the fuel into the car, but hey, progress, right? Apple Pay and PayPal will be available payment methods from the start, and Android Pay will be added later. For this all to work, you'll need a new Jaguar (or Land Rover) with the InControl infotainment system, a connected phone with the InControl app and Shell app, some space in your tank, and some electronic money. When you pull up to a Shell station and launch the Shell app through the touchscreen, the car will use geolocation to figure out which station you're at and then prompt you to enter the pump number you're next to (don't want to pay for someone else's fuel now do you?). Once that's done, you tell the system how much fuel you want (it's not clear if you can just fill the tank like most normal people do) and then the screen in the car shows you a receipt; one is also sent to you via email. While this might just seem like trading one screen for another and entering info through your car instead of at the pump, contactless payments also have an added level of security over pulling out a credit card. (Credit card skimmers, which steal card data when you go to swipe at a kiosk or ATM, have been popular at gas stations.) It will also be welcome in the winter months, when you can limit your exposure time. Plus you'll never again have to respond to this incomplete sentence, which greets us at Shell stations everywhere: "Is this debit card?" InControl is available on every Jaguar and Land Rover model. And if you get this Shell app working on an F-Pace with the Jaguar Activity Key, you'll have the latest in minimal-touch technology. The system will roll out to people in the UK first and should arrive in the US later this year. Related Video: Jaguar Land Rover Technology Smartphone Luxury shell paypal

Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations could build standalone models

Sun, Mar 8 2015

Jaguar Land Rover may be set to turn its Special Vehicle Operations division into something much bigger than a mere in-house tuner. Bloomberg spoke to the head of JLR's high-performance, customization outfit, John Edwards, who hinted that his team may move beyond simply modifying F-Types, Range Rovers and the like. "We're certainly looking at that, and we've got the capability to do that," Edwards told AN. "Is there an opportunity for us to do a completely standalone car? Maybe." Such a move into full-scale, standalone models would be a big step, particularly for a division that's still kind of in its infancy. Bloomberg references the success of Mercedes-AMG, but the German division has had the benefit of decades of growth. AMG spent years and years building high-performance versions of all manner of mainstream Mercedes vehicles, before moving onto cars like the SLS AMG and AMG GT, which have no mainstream analog. In other words, AMG had a long time to develop a reputation building high-performance vehicles that people know and recognize before it moved into building vehicles of its own. We aren't entirely convinced that SpecOps wouldn't benefit from taking a similar approach, delivering additional SVR vehicles, like the rumored XE SVR, before striking out on its own. We'd like to know what you think, though. Is it already time for Special Vehicle Operations to build standalone models, or should it learn to walk before it runs by modifying more of Jaguar Land Rover's existing product. Have your say in Comments. Related Video:
