I am the second owner of this Defender.   I spoke to the previous owner who was a Dentist in Austin, TX prior to purchasing the vehicle about 9 years ago.   He purchased it new from Gunn Land Rover in San Antonio, TX.    I have the original window sticker, books and leather packet that comes with the new paperwork.   The original owner put most of the miles on the car driving to and from work.     The reason I purchased this Defender is because it was completely rust free and was not subject to harsh treatment, beach use, road salt or adolescent drivers.   I had it shipped directly to East Coast Rovers in Maine to fix anything that was wrong.   They did the following.   Install dual Optimum batteries, and a battery disconnect switch.   Replaced all hinges (door, rear door, hood) with upgraded stainless steel hinges.   Replaced the oil cooler hose with an upgraded braided stainless steel line so that my new Defender would not fall victim to the engine fire that so commonly occur with the NAS Defenders.     The other problem that they corrected is the constantly flooding and shorting rear tail lights that I had them replace with LED sealed units so no more issues there.   While it was there,   I thought it was a good idea to replace the starter, Alternator, and idler pulley which is a wise preventative maintenance item given the cost of a breakdown.     I also had all fluids flushed and changed and replaced with synthetic lubricants, rust inhibited coolant, DOT brake fluid.   The serpentine belt was changed along with new hoses.  They also installed HELLA headlights which upgraded the stock lights and installed a bull bar with additional two fog lamps.       I had both knuckle seals replaced, although they were not leaking it is a wear item on the Land Rovers and they eventually do leak.  I also approved them installing the Brembo slotted disc brakes for improved breaking.  They finished it off with a full set of heavy Defender floor mats and cargo area mats.  The vehicle better than new when they were done (at almost the cost of what a new one I might add!)

One thing that ECR could not fix was the intermittent flashing of the odometer.   The LCD would pixilate in odd forms.   This problem is very common with the Defenders and when I took it for NJ inspection the moron who inspector mistook the 8 for a 2 and recorded it as 25,000 instead of 85,000.   I found a company in California who fixes the transistor and since then it has performed flawlessly.

In March of 2012 I sent the front and rear bumpers, exterior roll cage out for powder coat.  The original paint kept fading quite easily and chalked now matter what you did to protect them.

In June 2013 I installed new muffler, tailpipe and a full set of Michelin LTX tires for a quiet and smooth ride,  you would not believe the difference!

I am very meticulous about maintaining a high standard of mechanical and cosmetic quality.   In summary,   this vehicle is ready to drive cross country with no issues.   At the time I purchased this vehicle my kids were small and loved to ride in the back with the buddies,   now they are grown without them, the car sits in the garage under a cover.

Jaguar Land Rover rescues British off-road tuner Bowler

Wed, Dec 18 2019

Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicles Operation (SVO) rescued British off-road tuner Bowler from an uncertain fate. The firm has worked with Land Rover in the past, but it has always been independent. While JLR isn't in an ideal position to make acquisitions, and its recent financial troubles are well documented, Bowler was on the brink of shutting down. The small, 34-year old company had entered administration, and the 26 people it employed risked losing their jobs. Monetary details haven't been released, meaning we don't know how much Bowler was worth, but the firm pointed out it's now fully owned by SVO. It joins SV, Vehicle Personalization, and Classic as the division's fourth pillar. It's too early to tell precisely where Bowler will fit in the JLR latticework, because the initial focus will be on stabilizing the company. It will remain based in Belper, England, and every member of its full-time staff has been offered a position as a JLR employee. Bowler made a name for itself by turning the original Defender into a rally car, and Land Rover said the expertise it acquired during decades of racing is highly sought after, so that's a hint we'll see more hardcore models developed jointly by the two companies sooner or later. The new Defender would lend itself well to the Bowler treatment. The Bowler name could replace the SVX nameplate used on the stillborn, V8-powered Discovery, for example. The tuner's focus on off-pavement performance means we're unlikely to see a Bowler-badged Jaguar, but anything is possible as global demand for SUVs (especially quick ones) continues to rise. What's certain is that, once Bowler is stable, it will grow bigger.

Jaguar Land Rover opens new $1.6 billion factory in Slovakia

Thu, Oct 25 2018

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — Jaguar Land Rover is opening a new, $1.6 billion plant in Slovakia, the luxury car maker's first in continental Europe. The U.K.-based company, owned by India's Tata Motors, built the plant near Nitra, about 65 miles east of Bratislava, to initially produce 150,000 cars a year. The Slovak government is giving the carmaker investment subsidies of up to 130 million euros ($148 million). Slovakia is a regional car-making powerhouse. Germany's Volkswagen AG, France's PSA Peugeot Citroen and South Korea's Kia Motors all have a major plant in this Central European country of 5.4 million people. The company said it will shift all production of its Discovery model from Birmingham, England, to Slovakia amid falling diesel sales, vehicle taxes and uncertainty about Britain's Brexit departure from the European Union.Related Video:

Jaguar Land Rover invests $1.5B to build factory in Slovakia

Fri, Dec 11 2015

Jaguar Land Rover will invest 1 billion pounds ($1.5 billion at current rates) to build a new factory in Nitra, Slovakia. Construction will commence in 2016, and the site will have an initial capacity of 150,000 vehicles a year when the first of them roll out in late 2018. JLR expects to employ 2,800 people there. JLR won't yet say what vehicle it will build in Slovakia, other than it will be an all-new aluminum model. The 2018 timing for the plant's start of production seems to coincide with the launch of the radically different next-gen Land Rover Defender, though. Earlier reports suggested that JLR also considered locations in North America, particularly Georgia, and Europe for the new factory. However, the company signaled the Slovakia choice earlier this year when it signed a letter of intent with the government there in August. The automaker then did a final feasibility study before committing to the site. The new factory continues JLR's recent manufacturing expansion. The company opened an engine plant in the UK last year and a factory in China. There will also be one soon in Brazil, and it will reportedly bid to buy the Silverstone Circuit as a new headquarters. JAGUAR LAND ROVER CONFIRMS NEW FACTORY IN SLOVAKIA • New world-class premium manufacturing facility confirmed in Nitra • The next stage of the Company's plans for sustainable global growth • Today's announcement also supports long-term investment in the UK Bratislava, Slovakia – Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that it will be the first British carmaker to open a manufacturing facility in Slovakia. The announcement follows an agreement between the company and the Government of the Slovak Republic to build a new plant in the city of Nitra, western Slovakia. The new world-class GBP1 billion premium manufacturing facility will eventually employ around 2,800 people. Today's announcement follows Jaguar Land Rover's recent confirmation to double its investment in its engine plant in the UK to almost GBP1 billion – the largest injection into a new British manufacturing plant in decades creating several hundred new jobs. Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive Officer, Jaguar Land Rover commented, "Jaguar Land Rover is delighted today to welcome Slovakia into our family. The new factory will complement our existing facilities in the UK, China, India and Brazil and marks the next step in the company's strategy to become a truly global business.
