I never thought I would sell this truck, but I'm going to be a dad soon.  Here's your chance to get an amazing Land Rover for way less than it's worth.

1995 Land Rover Defender 90 Soft Top #2707.

One of only 1,190 1995 Defender 90 Soft Tops imported.  Portifino Red with Black Interior.  I have owned this truck since 2005.
Odometer reads 104,000 miles, but is off by about 20% due to gearing and tires.  Actual mileage is around 83,000.
Runs excellent and is a very reliable vehicle.
I use it as a driver when I don't ride my motorcycle, so it doesn't get driven too often.  Its primary use for me was as a recreational vehicle for trails.
Many upgrades for off road use including:
ARB air lockers front and rear, ARB air compressor mounted in cubby under passenger seat
4.75 Gears, Cryoed
Salisbury Semi Float rear end with Disc brakes (extremely rare)
Heavy duty Cro-Mo front axle shafts
Rovertracks extreme duty steering parts (tie rod, drag link, track rod)
Safari Gard front three link suspension
Rovertracks lengthened Heavy Duty rear links with Heim joints
Allied Bead Locks (real bead lock wheels) with 37x12.50x15" Goodyear MTRs (set of 5, the 5th has a TSL IROK in 38x12.50x15 mounted)
Rock Ware front winch bumper with two heavy duty bow shackle mounts
Heavy Duty rear Tire Carrier (no lugs on it, I never carried a spare, just repair kit and CO2 tank)
WARN 9000 pound winch with synthetic rope
Rock Ware heavy duty rock sliders
Energizer marine deep cycle battery (I was not impressed with Optima at all)
Fully welded and reinforced roll cage
Tom Woods Custom driveshafts front and rear (double cardan)
Great Basin Rovers transfer case gear set for ULTRA LOW low range (a $3000 kit)
Mastercraft Safety seats with 5 point harnesses (brand new as of last week)
Tuffy lockable console with CD deck and USB port
Tuffy rear speaker boxes with Infinity Marine 6x9 speakers, Kicker front marine speakers, Bazooka 10" marine subwoofer, 500W Sony x-plod amp
Tuffy lockable Toolbox
Bikini top and two soft tops (both full tops have small tears though)
Quick release window mounts
Fox Racing Shocks Coilover rear suspension

This truck can go anywhere you want to take it.  It is not like many other D90s out there because I used it off road and I hope whoever buys it will do the same.  Any parts that were not strong enough to survive the rigors of trails like 21 road (this is where I got my eBay name - because of this truck) and Billings Canyon were replaced with stronger parts so they would never break on a trail again.  Yes, I've done Moab in it - you can go anywhere you want there.  I understand that a stock Land Rover Discovery can do the Rubicon trail, so I assume I could do it in reverse without ever turning a locker on in this truck :) .  With this Defender you will be able to drive around town looking like a bad ass, drive it to an extreme trail, do the trail (and probably rescue a couple of Jeep drivers) and drive it right back home.  Most of the friends I used to go four wheeling with trailered their vehicles to and from the trail - with this rig you don't need to.

Also good:
No cancer!  There is a very small amount of rust in the corner of each door (see pictures), but this is a high desert truck!
Both bulkheads are in good condition - I was going to grind the surface rust off of the rear bulkhead and refinish it as I did the cage and tire carrier, but I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to hide anything.  There is only surface rust where the paint got scraped off, NO CANCER!  The front bulkhead is totally cancer free as well.
I replaced the clutch 5 years ago, and have only put a few thousand miles on it in that time.  All new disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and slave cylinder (genuine parts).
I put a brand new (not rebuilt) alternator in it two years ago.
It will come with a Mastercraft Safety back seat and a spare front outer axleshaft (fits either side, I bought it in case I broke one on a trail and never needed it)
Runs and drives AWESOME.
All new turn signal assemblies (for all signals and tail/stop lights) and RH front trim pieces are en route and will be installed prior to delivery.

What's wrong with it?
It's dented and scraped up from trails.  Cosmetically I like it better this way, but it looks like its been off road because it has.  All of the "damage" is cosmetic.  The RH front fender is mangled thanks to my buddy Josh not looking one night up on 21rd on his birthday.  That's the worst of it, but the other panels pretty much all have dents and scratches too.  I've priced out replacing every panel on this truck to make it perfectly straight like the ones everyone has in Aspen and it can be done for about $5000 including shipping if you buy it all from Rovers North.  I always liked it just the way it is, but if you want to make it like the $40k ones for sale elsewhere, go for it.  It will still have all the heavy duty stuff underneath so you know you could drive over a Rubicon or a Hummer any time you felt like it.  The only other issue with it is that sometimes when you're going about 40mph it gets a front end wobble, but this goes away if you accelerate to 50.  I'm sure it would be easy to fix, it just never bothered me enough to look into it.  My guess is that one of the wheels is out of balance.  Also, if you try to drag race it you'll grind between first and second.  It's not a race car, and if you don't drive it like one you'll never have a problem.

Auction Details:
I'm leaving for vacation on June 23rd and will likely be on an airplane when the auction ends.  I will contact the winning bidder as soon as I can to touch base.  I can be reached at jacob.wilbert@gmail.com with any questions or extra picture requests.  If you really need to talk to me on the phone send me a message and I'll reply with my phone number.  I'm listing this truck so I can sell it, not to waste anyone's time or try to get ten grand more than it's worth.  I know the body damage is a turn off to a lot of people and it decreases the value of the vehicle.  The reserve is LOW.

IMPORTANT:  The winning bidder will need to make arrangements to come pick the vehicle up between July 8 and July 12.  I will not be around until July 8 and will be leaving again on the evening of the 12th.  I will accept CASH, MONEY ORDER, or ELECTRONIC BANK TRANSFER.  I don't want your bank account info, we will physically go to my bank and you can talk to a banker there to do the transfer if this is how you'd like to do the deal.  I prefer EBT because you don't have to carry cash and I don't have to worry about you canceling a cashier's check.

Good luck, I hope you will give her a good home!

RESERVE IS SET AT $19,000.  IF YOU CAN SHOW UP THIS WEEK WITH CASH BEFORE THE AUCTION ENDS I'LL TAKE $20,000.

I know that this truck is worth much more than that, but I have to sell it.

Jaguar Land Rover moves closer to building Slovakia plant

Tue, Aug 11 2015

Jaguar Land Rover has announced its intention to build a new assembly plant in Slovakia. Though it has yet to make the final decision, the British automaker has signed a Letter of Intent with the Slovakian government. Its next step is to launch a feasibility study before committing. If the company does go ahead with plans, it wouldn't be the first automaker – or even the first European luxury automaker for that matter – to start producing in Slovakia. Nor would it be the first Jaguar Land Rover plant outside the UK, either. The Volkswagen Group, PSA Peugeot Citroen, and Kia all manufacture in the Central European country. VW's Bratislava plant in particular handles production of the Touareg, Audi Q7, and Porsche Cayenne. In the past few years, JLR has expanded its production capacity to new locations outside of the UK. It has a new factory in China, one under construction in Brazil, and has been manufacturing in India – home country of its parent company Tata – since 2011. It recently announced a manufacturing contract with Magna Steyr in Austria, and is investing in its facilities back home as well. Though yet to be finalized, the prospect of manufacturing in Slovakia has proven more favorable to JLR than other locations in Europe or in the United States or Mexico – all possibilities that the company says it looked into. It has yet to reveal just what it would produce there, saying only that "the plant would manufacture a range of aluminium Jaguar Land Rover vehicles," that the plant would be earmarked to come online in 2018 and eventually ramp up production to 300,000 vehicles. The prevailing wisdom would seem to indicate, however, that the site is being considered for the next-generation Land Rover Defender. Jaguar CEO says people just don't want EVs right now

Mon, Jun 22 2015

"Customers are not impressed with it currently." These are the words of one Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, spoke at the Automotive News Europe Congress in Birmingham, England. The "it" Speth is referring to is battery technology, which he characterized as "too heavy, too expensive," and with power density that's "too low." That all could go some way towards explaining why the British automaker has yet to bring an electric vehicle to market, why it killed the C-X75 hybrid-turbine supercar project, and why it only recently started offering hybrid versions of its Range Rover models (and has yet to offer them in the United States). That doesn't mean the company won't pursue electric propulsion in the future, though. According to Automotive News Europe, Speth forecasts that "the next generation of batteries will be higher density, lower weight and the cost will come down." What he didn't say, exactly, is when he expects that next generation of battery tech to come around – or when JLR will start to more closely embrace electric propulsion. In the meantime, Jaguar Land Rover will continue investing in research and development. Since Tata acquired the brands from Ford seven years ago, JLR has quadrupled its R&D budget and doubled the number of engineers on staff. Related Video:

Frankfurt Motor Show Notes: Why Jaguar decided to build an SUV

Wed, Sep 16 2015

It was inevitable. Jaguar had to make an SUV, and that notion became reality this week with the debut of the F-Pace, an all-wheel-drive five-seater that will launch in the United States next spring. Some purists may cringe. But in an era when Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, and other traditional luxury brands are all building or (planning to build) SUVs, Jaguar had to evolve. While it seems like a leap for Jaguar to make an SUV, longtime design director Ian Callum said it's been in the works for years. "The first time I was asked the question was when I arrived 16 years ago," he said. So in 1999 (and probably well before that), Jaguar was already thinking SUV. What took so long? "It wasn't a priority," Callum said. Jaguar was concentrating on fixing its existing lineup, which was pockmarked with holes and poorly selling products, like the X-Type. Along the way, Jaguar and sister brand Land Rover were sold by Ford to Indian conglomerate Tata Motors. Flash forward several years, and Jaguar and Land Rover are both experiencing a resurgence in the United States and around the world. Jaguar's lineup is flush with the E-Type's modern successor, the F-Type, plus a new version of the XF. The XJ received a 2016 freshening, and the smaller XE sedan is on the way. Jaguar put its house in order as other factors conspired to make a crossover timely. Fuel prices stayed relatively low, and consumers in the US and China remained steadfast in their love for utility vehicles of all stripes. Making a Jaguar SUV became a priority. "The world was telling us in no uncertain terms this is what they wanted," Callum said. "Not to be in the sector would be a little naive for the sake of purity." Jaguar proved its intent two years ago when it revealed the C-X17 crossover concept at Frankfurt, and the final production model is close to the prototype's striking looks. "I thought we managed to maintain that spirit," Callum said. It's a true Jaguar, with cues from the F-Type, 1968 XJ, and other famous models. Who would have thought Jaguar would make an SUV? "I certainly didn't," Callum admitted. But the F-Pace is here. If Callum is okay with it, purists can be, too. Quick Hits Opel retrenches for 2016 and beyond Opel used the Frankfurt show to display its new generation of the Astra, a critical vehicle line for the German division of General Motors.
