1986 Landrover 90 Defender - Hard Top Turbo Diesel Engine on 2040-cars
Argyle, Texas, United States
This is a 1986 vehicle but is listed as a 1980 because Ebay will not recognize the VIN#. The condition of this Defender is good for the year, it is mostly original but has aftermarket rims. It does have two small dings, which if you are thinking of repainting it could be easily beaten out, otherwise I would not touch them. I would add new wheels from a Discovery, you can find them on Craigslist easily enough, I saw rims only for $75 or rims and tires for $300.
I am from the UK where these vehicles are used for every utility and the military, and I have driven these vehicles all my life. This one is a civilian type and is a strong example, the motor is a powerful 300 Turbo Diesel starts first crank no engine smoke on start up or while running, pulls really well. There is no drift in the steering either. The door hinges are all solid, I have tried to capture most of the usual rust points in the pictures. The drivers door has some rust on the bottom trailing edge, which can be repaired or easily replaced if you are repainting it. The cab is straight, its been a working truck so it could be a little cleaner, but there are no stains or odors, seats are not ripped. In the back there are bench seats and Land Rover installed rubber mats, there is a dog guard which I would keep but can be easily taken out. Remember these trucks can be easily reconfigured to be soft tops, and they can go anywhere you want to go, beach, mountains anywhere. This is not a business for me, I just love the vehicles, and I have sold two or three recently here on ebay. The vehicle is at our home in North Dallas, I can help by arranging shipment if needed (at buyers cost), I can pick you up in DFW and get you on your way if you prefer to drive it home. I am pretty confident it would be OK to drive, but you should be the judge of that, there are no leaks or apparent mechanical problems but it is an older vehicle. I had a friend in the UK drive it from Nottingham to Southampton in heavy traffic and there were no problems. Ask as many questions as you need to feel comfortable bidding, I will do my best to answer all as honestly as I can Thanks |

Jaguar Land Rover opens winter testing facility in Minnesota
Wed, 12 Dec 2012As it begins the rollout of the all-wheel-drive Jaguar XJ and XF models, Jaguar Land Rover has just announced that it has opened a new facility in northern Minnesota for winter testing. Located in International Falls, MN (on the US and Canadian border), the British automaker says it is one of the coldest locations in the Continental US. Jaguar's new Instinctive All Wheel Drive system was developed primarily to help sell more cars in the northern US, so it only makes sense to open a testing area in the US as well.
With temperatures that can drop to minus 55 degrees Fahrenheit, International Falls was chosen to mimic some of the worst weather a Jaguar or Land Rover will ever see. The grounds house testing chambers, various road surfaces and even a frozen lake. This new facility complements the hot-weather testing grounds in Phoenix, AZ.
The official press release is posted below.
Jaguar Land Rover to cut $6.8 billion in costs
Tue, Nov 10 2015Jaguar Land Rover reduce costs by $6.8 billion and will push annual production volume to 1 million vehicles under a secret project called Leap 4.5, according to Reuters. The British automaker wants to achieve these ambitious goals by the end of the decade to compensate for the changing market in China and to counteract the price of meeting stricter emissions standards around the world. Leap 4.5 won't mean firing workers or cutting the automaker's $4.5 billion annual research budget. JLR will instead find savings by underpinning more models with modular platforms and by adjusting its supply chain. Future factories like the one in Brazil and the proposed plant in Slovakia also won't be affected by the new strategy. Globally, JLR continues to grow, and deliveries are up two percent through October 2015 to 390,965 vehicles. Business just last month was up 24 percent year-over-year to 41,553 units. However, the auto market's downturn in China has taken a bite out the automaker's success because volume dropped there 32 percent in the third quarter, Reuters reported. A global volume of 1 million vehicles will mean more than doubling 2014's 462,678 deliveries, but JLR has made significant investments to boost production recently. In addition to the future factories, it opened its first plant in China last year and an engine assembly site in the UK. The company also signed a deal with Magna Steyr in 2015 to build an upcoming model in Austria. Related Video:
Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover
Sat, Jan 18 2014It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party.
